  1. Hi Folks, I will be instructing the New York Flyer / Pilot Workshop. Details still being arranged. Many kudos to Dave for creating such positive inertia !!!! Keep an eye on the Tiffen Steadicam Workshops web site for all of the details as soon as they are locked in place. Registration will be as per the usual route. Notice that both rigs are now shown in the name of the workshop. Because they are both lighter rigs, and their payload capacity overlaps to a degree, we have decided to couple them in the same 2-day intensive workshop. Looking forward to seeing you all there, Best, Peter Abraham Lead Instructor Director of Technical Services The Tiffen Company / Steadicam pabraham@tiffen.com http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com
  2. Ah- forgot to mention the important stuff !! Jerry Holway is our Lead Instructor ! :)
  3. First thing you need to do is stop leaning forward. It'll wreck your form and screw up your shots. :P Hats off to some very lovely work !! Peter Abraham
  4. THAT was funny. I used to go with a Double Net. If shooing directly into the wind, get a few grips on board. Have them carry 4x4 solids. Make a "V" behind you with them. The wind will blow into the area where you are standing and be forced back out. The net effect ( heh. "net effect" . ) will be to create an area of calm air around you and the sled. The same wind that was working against you is now your aerodynamic friend !! Works like a chahm. Peter Abraham
  5. Evening all ! We still have a few slots open in our Lake Arrowhead Classic Steadicam Workshop. Held last year at the UCLA Conference Center up at the Lake, it was a resounding success. Fun long hard days, great gear, nifty visitors and accessories ( We had the SteadiRover there for a day, courtesy of Tony Foresta and Kay Armstrong at FTC ). If you are considering a full-length big rig workshop, take a look at our Workshops web site. All of the details on tuition and arrangements are there. Feel free to email me with any questions at all. When we nail down the Operator's Night for that workshop, I'll be back to post the info here. 6. Hi Eric, Agreed. The side to side knob should not be hard to turn at all. Please send me a digital photo of the stage, especially the underside of it. Perhaps I can help you work out a way to get it moving smoothly again. Best to you, Peter Abraham The Tiffen Company pabraham@tiffen.com
  7. How's your groundstroke now? :P Peter Abraham
  8. Apparently the 500 foot load trick was also used for the opening shot in "The Bonfire Of The Vanities", operated by Larry McConkey. Custom wound loads from Kodak, if I recall the tale correctly. Looking forward to this film ! Peter Abraham New York
  9. Hi Jeff, That'd be the smartest answer if it were a rental. Unfortunately, this is someone whose company owns an early Cine Alta. I've got to work with solutions for that particular body. Elegant work on " Across The Universe". Best Peter
  10. Hi Brandon, Brilliant ! How did I miss this? It's just what I was seeking. ( that is probably why I missed it ) Thank you so much, Peter
  11. Hey Alec, Yeah I saw that site. I freely admit I may be looking right at the proper unit but all I saw offered by Aja were HD/SDI to... something else. I need R/G/B/ to HD/SDI converted. I don't see that listed.
  12. Hi folks, What boxes are being used if one wants to take the RGB output of the CineAlta and convert it to HD/SDI for viewing on a non-Steadicam external monitor? I've been Googling and come up emptyhanded. From what I see the Aja box doesn't do this. Whose magic box does? Thanks in advance for the info, Best, Peter Abraham New York
  13. Hey Kyle !!! Great to hear you're working that rig. Fun we had, trucking back and forth from the parents' house to the beach where that party was going on and back again. Janice is spot-on. Sometimes we're ahead of the bell curve. Sometimes the bell falls onto us ! Stay in touch, Best Peter Abraham New York
  14. By god that's a handsome and talented camera operator. and doesn't he look an awful lot like Peter Abraham?? I'm just sayin'...... Nice stuff, Peter Abraham New York

  20. Hi folks, My kids Pediatrician is moving to L.A. and wants to live on the west side of things. He's been out once or twice and is dismayed at what he's finding so far. He's single, and is looking for a pediatrics practice to hook up with. I'm here asking if anyone has, or knows of an apartment either in the West Hollywood area or over near the beaches. Email me if you've got a lead or a friend with a lead. While I don't know this guy as a good friend, I've trusted the health and safety of my children in his hands for an awful lotta years. In an effort to keep Tim's servers happy, let's email directly please. My info is: peter@thesteadicamworkshops.com Best to all, Peter Abraham New York
  21. This article caught my eye. Apparently the folks at Corning glass have solved the problem of signal loss due to curvature of glass fibers. I know the Copperhead does fairly well when the cable is bent but other systems might not fare similarly. If this new fiber design becomes the standard, users like us might be in the position of being able to tuck the cables in and around things as we used to with very thin Coax, without fear or snapping the glass or signal strength loss. Interesting stuff. Peter Abraham New York

  24. The Steadicam Operator whose work we admire quite frequently is Jeff Zachary. He's been doing hand-held and Steadicam on Monday Night Football ( and Sunday afternoon, I believe.... ) for quite a few years. His work is simply superb and he trains every single day for the endurance test that is a game day. I worked before and after him twice. Once at the 1995 Super Bowl and again at the 2000 Super Bowl. I did pre game and Halftime with the rig, he did the game. I worked. He HAULED ASS. Hat's off to you Jeff, always great framing, great instincts, great operating. Peter Abraham New York
