  1. Looks like this is going to happen, so I just wanted to see if any of you people have shot there or nearby and what's to be expected as far as gear (dolly, track, other camera support) or should we travel everything +backups? What I've hear is that on the North end, they bring in from Spain and on the other end, South Africa has gear.
  2. A saw this when I ordered my 1490 for my CamWav HD. I was just staring at the screen like when I was a kid and first saw my neighbors gigantic red tool chest for the first time... he had a tool for everything in there. I remember always trying to bring something odd that needed to be fixed. He would look at it, think for a few seconds, reach in and bring out the perfect tool for the job on the first try. And that's the point I became a gadget guy. Not to mention shortly after my mom tore my ass up for taking apart the 8 track player... fun times!
  3. Loved it... More of a musical montage. I'm about to do a viral music video for my sons best friends dad and had worked out a one'r, but I do like the subtle usage of cuts for the indoor/outdoor transitions. Very well put together. Making me rethink the whole one take/one song idea into a montage of the four songs they have. Thanks for sharing. edit: How did you guys fare in the competition?
  4. Nope, at least not on record. ;) Your response was of approval and just wanted to make that point, not to say you took a stab at the other guy.
  5. Funny how Lockheed gets the approval while the gentalman in this tread: You have to see this .., This is Steady Bionicle man got ripped on by many ops. Looks along the same principles but with highly paid engineers in a R&D lab and not the garage or basement of a lone forward thinking operator. I wonder if those that laughed will become the butt of the joke when they include on one these in the kit? -Alfeo
  6. If you want some relaxation Scuba Diving is great. YES, YES, YES... but can get about as pricey as our profession... If you can't stop yourself from buying stuff(like me),it is expensive. I'm about to order UW housing for RED now....... ADDICT!!! Hell everyone on this forum is one... just look in your gear closet! I just started a Facebook group called 'Spontaneous Consumption' with the idea of quick planning dives on Monday for that weekend. Lets face it, the better our long range vacation plans are, the better the job offer will be (especially if prepaid and non-refundable.) So the focus is to contact dive operators that don't have anything booked and will give a discount for us to fill seats... sort of Travelocity style.

  8. Gonna miss you 'road dog' attached photo may or may not be a certain person we know... plus I put the bar over the faces so know one will ever know who's who... not saying that that's you!?!
  9. one bit of advice is to get yourself a hard mount, once you see that they are clueless and just want this slight push in and out... you can dirt bag a tripod and land your rig on the sticks and take it easy for their lack of knowing and foresight. FYI, stash the whiskey for later at home.

  11. Let Locations worry about getting the space for you... you don't need to pop it out unless working... I LOVE IT!!! Custom pod for my U2... although by the time its produced I ma be on to a U3Massimo
  12. Delta Airlines First/Business Class allows 3 free bags limited to 70lbs instead of 50lbs, not to mention you have no change fees and your ticket holds value for a year. You are still limited to 62" in size... my Ultra2 sled & vest case are 64" but a nice tip may help that 2" difference. I was also told that media rate for Delta is still in affect, but only applies to gear cases, not personal luggage.
  13. That was a wonderful video tribute. I hate that I somehow missed this request for photos, I had a few good ones of Bob that I shot on Family Reunion that I posted in the same thread as the poem. Thanks, glade you like the poem. -Alfeo
  14. Last is Bob shooting an angel... now he has his own wings to fly.
  15. Thanks Mike. A friend pointed out my incorrect use of two homonyms, if any admins care to correct for me (bare to bear and tails to tales) Sorry I didn't call you when I was down last week... i had a crazy MV that I dp'd, meet some really great guys like Eagon and Colonel. While over at CVT I had spoken about working with Bob to Eagon, I can only think that maybe IF I had called Bob also, maybe that could have been the day he would not have been on the boat and maybe fallen off a Miami Beach bar stool with me instead.
  16. Call him, ask if this is true and let him know he's been quoted as the now going rate by the guy that called you. I wouldn't worry, with the rates on baggage now with airlines, its going to cost double that just to fly him out of LA to ATL.
  17. Fly straight my steadi brother, fly straight For you have carried the weight upon your back Glided along paths and never glanced back You've Don Juan'd and locked off You've roundie'd and stepped off So now hang your rig for the very last time For no AD will yell for steadi this time Your legs and back will ache no more Your feet will never again be sore No more need for backups as the old parts age For the wings you now bare will be the new rage Don your vest of gold machined by your Lord Replace that old post, with your angelic sword For I have felt hands of an angel once on a fall All to realize the grips hand my back after all Watch after us, your ground walking brothers So we can tell our tails of foolishness to others Put the rig away, thus today is a new day May peace be with you where you lay Fly straight my steadi brother, fly straight -Alfeo Dixon 2009 In memory of Bob Ulland and all of our brothers we have lost.
  18. I had the pleasure of working with Bob back in 2006 on Madea's Family Reunion. He was a very kindhearted man and full of great stories. Bob will be truly missed by all.
