  1. Am I to understand that it will be a higher resolution analogue driver in the TB6 then? So there will be a perceivable resolution increase? Will the TB6 still be able to take an SD signal?
  2. It only works with C Motion and new Arri Radio Follow focus. The ariels need to match in colour (which signifies the frequency chip) and generally need to both be white although I believe there is a new colour coming out. Many people need to get their C-motions chipped to work with an Alexa+ which ain't cheap. Weirdly I must do a job every week or other week with kit provided by Arri Media and they still not once have provided a working Arri LCS and Alexa+ combination. The whole thing seems like an abortion to me. By the time it works there will be a new Alexa and it'll all be old news. It doesn't work with the Preston. Unless things have changed recently.
  3. Yup, i second that question. Are there any photos? Is there a weblink or pdf we can look at?
  4. How is it with weird non sdi frame rates like 33fps?
  5. Markus seems pretty convinced you can't use this to point the camera upwards. Its only an Epic but I am talking to him right now. Thanks for all the help
  6. Thanks guys. Over at RED USER, Jason Diamond suggested this: http://www.mns1974.com/90_Degrees_of_Cheese.html Ben, is that your workshop?
  7. I am looking for an L-Bracket. These where traditionally used to put the camera on their sides so you could fly a camera over a table AR style. There are photos in Jerry Holway's book. I actually need to point the camera straight upwards! Its only a RED Epic so I reckon I'll be ok as the camera is so short. I am shooting a film for Planetarium with a fisheye lens rigged from the inside of a convertible car. Thanks for your help! Thomas
  8. If you can't charge for a boxx then offer a Switronix for £50 or $80 and recommend they get in a boxx themselves and drop you rental hire if they get one in. I'm trying to work out how to put a similar antenna array onto a Switronix RX. Hey you can always just get a cute little fresh out of college assistant to carry around a WEVI RX and keep nice and close to you. You'd still be coming in at a third the daily rental of a Boxx and it would be a lot more enjoyable. And remember that $1800 for a Modulus 12 years ago is the equivilant to double that today... Its just our rates that didn't go up with inflation.
  9. Well we all know that a bottle of wine thats 5 times the price isn't 5 times better. Its an investment game of diminishing returns like anything in life. If you use a proper antenna array on the Boxx you won't get the issues you speak off. Its a good system that you can play with.
  10. The Switronix Recon and some modified Wevis have removable sma antenna. Does anyone know if a 2.4GHZ antenna works on 5.8GHZ system? Considering its nearly a multiple in frequency I thought they might. Can anyone recommend a flat panel antenna that takes 4 sma antenna wires? I have seen people using these before. Can anyone otherwise recommend any cool antenna to play with?
  11. "become a positive technology performance game changer." ... do you mean "better" ?
  12. Cw-7 huh? # Supported SD: 525i/59.94, 625i/50 Does that mean it does SD as well as HD or will that be SDI only? Very interesting. I wonder if the boxx and transvideo are gearing anything for this new chipset.
  13. Wellllllll, there is one that does exist already and it's coming out with the new Cinetronics monitor Just sayin Yeah, thats exciting. Chris on the Cinetronics, Jacques is doing it on the Virtual Horizon 2 at Transvideo and Sarah on the LED Widget. I'll buy the first that is waterproof so I don't need to put a raincover on it.
  14. Sarah is talking about a far more advanced bubble than we have available to us today. Using the gyro-stabilizer systems from RC helicopters. Whilst what Sarah's implementation isn't Rocket Science the technology certainly is; albeit consumer grade. I think its definitely worth she has a play. This is essentially the same technology Jacques is using in his Virtual Horizon 2 at Transvideo. Personally I think this is an exciting field of development in Steadicam.
  15. Keep it simple Sarah. Little box that takes power and keeps sensor that lives on the bottom of the sled and tiny fly cable that winds its way out to the LED s. Do horizontal only. See if you can take a peek at an XCS in your area and I am certain someone will oblige but most importantly don't stress it if you get it wrong the first time. Where are you based?
  16. I massively recommend Jerry's book. I had been operating in ignorant bliss for years until I read the book. I know a bit more what I am doing now. Its fantastic for operators at any level.
  17. To be honest when your first starting to build this thing make an LED readout with a green LED in the middle and orange and red ones either side. This can be velcroed to the top of any monitor and the sensor to the bottom of the sled.
  18. Lucas, That would drive me crazy! But there are those shots... those crazy opening/ending shots to the film/advert that go to a wide scene to lock-off where level is SO crucial and everyone is watching you and that make-up girl is at the monitor and the coffee is wearing off.. We've all been there and yeah I'd love to be able to do that. +1 for transvideo
  19. Without getting my trigonometry calculator out.. what is the effective size of a 16:9 image on a 4:3 monitor? Can the 16:9 monitor zoom to make the image smaller? If it can zoom will we be able to place the bubble into the black space? I'll buy the first waterproof high brightness monitor. In a country where it rains all the time; weather gear kills visibility on LCD's so if I don't need the weather gear I'll buy it. I think I'll wait till september.
  20. I had a 4pin (male) to Arri 2pin (female) cable made enabling me to use any plate I want. I've an AB plate to female xlr, a V-Lock to female xlr and a Reelpower 24v to 4pin xlr (marked DANGEROUS). This all works fine but is probably more expensive than buying that IDX plate and sticking in a 4pin xlr extension.
  21. Nice, put me on the list for a HyperCam! Sort of like a semi handheld energy rig...
  22. Amazing photos! I am seriously impressed by the one under the truck. Was that scary? Intrigued by the handheld / Pro-Arm setup you are using in the image with the motorcycle helmet and I suspect in an earlier photo; would you mind telling us more about this camera platform on a pro-arm albeit off topic? That hanging truck shot.... Amazing! Big balls man! Jess, good find on the stronger daisy chain setup. I am going to go with that because I now no longer have confidence in my daisy chain. I see your double loop belt. I want a full harness though as would hate the whip lash from an emergency break especially considering the weird body positions we get into whilst operating. I agree with always anchoring in two places left and right otherwise it seems silly. What is current thinking with quad bikes? do you wear a harness or not at all? and if so where are you anchoring? I tend to wear one but anchored nice and low. I've heard both (with and without) be suggested, argument being that a quad rolls easily and you want to be thrown free, and I wonder if there is a more recent considered opinion.
