1. Given your obvious passion for filmmaking, I would strongly suggest that you go to the SOA workshop in Pennsylvania. It's close to a week long, steeped in Steadicam history, great instructors & operators will be there both scheduled and drop in, big rigs. They spent a day having students use alternate Steadicam applications: steadivehicles from ATVs to trucks to Segways as well as crane walkoffs. There's more but given you are a Canadian, travel shouldn't bother you. I believe they offer 2 sessions a year. Worth the money. I would hazard a guess that Mr. Abraham will be there as well. Cheers. Thanks for the kind words. Jay
2. The SOA has openings in the Fall workshop, in fact we have so many openings it may not happen. We are going to give it a few more days before we cancel it, in hopes that we get enough people signed up to do it. The SOA is the world's best 5 1/2 day workshop. Sponsored by Tiffen, Inc. we have some of the best equipment in the business, ATV's, cranes, dollies and 5 star catering on-site. Please reach out with any questions you may have. Thanks. Jay
3. There is still room in the Fall 2010 SOA Workshop. If anyone is interested please email or call me with any questions. It is getting down to the wire and we would love to have you at the workshop. Jay
4. There is still room in the Steadicam Operators Association Fall Workshop. The SOA conducts the world's best 5 and half day workshop, with lead instructors Jerry Holway and Garrett Brown. The workshop gives each participant ample practical and theoretical experience to begin working professionally, plus the mental tools needed to meet future challenges, as well as exercises and shots to practice after completing the course. We have 5 star on-site catering, all the best equipment including steadicams, cranes and vehicles along with the best instructors, helpers and guests throughout the week. Please check out www.steadicam-ops.com or call Jay Kilroy 215-919-4636 or email: j kilroy @ steadicam - ops . com (without spaces of course) Thanks, Jay

7. Mike, Look up Brant Fagan. He makes a great little alternative for low mode, his VLS system. Not sure if it will work for your Flyer though, worth a shot.
8. Charles, Great idea! I will ask GB today and let you know. Thanks for the suggestion. Jay
9. The Steadicam Operators Association is planning on having a little get together at the workshop before we head over to the theatre. Anyone that is planning on coming to the "Viewing/Q&A of The Marathon Man with Garrett Brown" is more than welcome to come join us. If you would like to join us send me an email so we now how many people to prepare for. I am also going to try and get a group discounts on the tickets. Hope to see you, SOA jkilroy@steadicam-ops.com

11. Thanks everyone for your interest. The rig has been sold.
12. Hey all, Garrett is away from his computer for a bit of sailing, so Ellen has asked me to post this for her. It is a great cause that they volunteer for and could use the help of us or anyone we know. The following letter is from Ellen: Dear Steadicam Ops, Some of you already know that I am a volunteer and Board Member of Philadelphia's USO. On a daily bases we serve the military in our area and in transit. Two area bases provide training for Iraq and are also deployment/return bases from the war zones. Last year we served 130,000. Each USO must raise their own operating budget. In October, we have our yearly and biggest fund raiser. I'm posting this to ask if you might be able to secure something from a show you are working on. In the past from Ops and contacts, I've received autographed script and swag from The Sopranos, swag from The Unit, tickets to the Colbert Report, cast autograph from Gray's Anatomy. This fund raiser is so important to us that I thought I would ask our Steadicam Family for help. Thank you. Ellen/215-922-5952 elshire@aol.com

15. http://www.steadicam.com/images/content/Access_101907.pdf Tiffen Accessories PDF file, you should be able to find the conversion on here. I worked at a studio that had the provid to master series socket block conversion on their provid. It made a huge difference compared to the "pin" style. But it was still a provid, yuck. The weight you guys are talking about on that arm is too much, but the real problem is that weight on that rig, not nearly enough weight to counter balance. Correct me if I'm wrong but, that 26lbs is total weight not a 26lb camera??? Jay
16. Cheers Brant, Happy Birthday!
17. Hey Buddy, Sorry I missed it, happy birthday! Jay
