  1. Premium SOA Search Placement As an added benefit to those SOA Members that sign-up for our Demo Reel Service your SOA Profile will now receive Premium search page placement. All Demo Reel enabled profiles will be listed first, in a different color, on the top of each state/country search page to help highlight and promote your demo reel. This feature is available NOW. We are also working on a counter to track the number of times your demo reel has been viewed. So you can see the effectiveness of having your demo reel available on SOA. This feature is coming soon. 2. Take it easy, that boy when he knows the steadicam, it could end up being one of ours, we don't discourage it and let us be but solidary with the beginners in this means... please! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I am not sure what you mean by this. I kind of got a chuckle from the whole thing actually.

  4. Thomas I am sorry that was not directed to you at all. It was in response to Leigh. Please don't think I meant it for you, sorry for the confusion. jay
  5. If the DIRECTOR wants a flat horizon then the operator better GIVE the director a flat horizon! jay kilroy
  6. I don't think it is a light rig. I have yet to wear it but I have seen it personally and have talked to the op. He was flying a 35mm film camera and it was not light at all.
  7. Charles you beat me to it! Good to see Mr. Landau back on the forum bringing exactly what it needed, some silliness. It has been getting a little too uptight around here lately.
  8. Ultimatte I believe wrote the program software and they are also installing it at our studios. Jay
  9. Rob, Very interesting thank you. I will keep you posted. Jay
  10. Rob, We are in the process of having Ultimatte install a "Virtual Set" in our studio. We have 3 studio build ups, 1 jib and 1 handheld/steadi. We have yet to put it on the air with all that, but I have built our rig with the crazy antler ball and all those wires. I hated every minute of it!!!!! On a ProVid none the less. I will be interested to see how that goes when we finally get on the air with it. At least now we have a Vector to put it on. How did you like your Ultimatte experience?? Jay
  11. SOA Classified Ad System Upgrade! At the request of many SOA Classified Ad users we have upgrade our FREE Classified Ad service to allow you to upload 4 photos per ad. We know SOA site visitors frequent our classifieds on a regular basis so we are certain our new photo option will enhance the selling experience. Please note...in the process of upgrading only a few current ads were transferred over to the new system. If you have placed an ad within the past 3 weeks it may have been lost. Please feel free to post your ad again. Sorry for the inconvenience. ********************************************** NEW SOA Demo Reel Service! Be sure to check out the SOA Demo Reel Service. If you are an SOA member you can add this service to host your demo reel from your SOA profile. Please check these new upgrades out. The classifieds are free to all and the demo reel feature is for members. Thanks for your time. Let us know what you think. Jay
  12. Alec, I couldn't agree with you more!!!! I use a 20 year old IIIA, great from vest to stage. (it has had a few stage upgrades) The facility I work for has a ProVid and a new Master series type, the Vector. The Vector is just as good as the IIIA, technology obviously is better, the arm is sweet, and the vest upgrades Tiffen has done, I love. The ProVid, what can I say. I hate it. I didn't feel right raining on the ProVid parade earlier, but comparatively it's no match to the 3 or the Vector. If you haven't experienced the vest upgrades Tiffen has done on the Masters, they are great. I can't compare them to the back mounted models. They have these new "cross back straps" that really really help. The new breast plate that comes up higher and remains stiffer also is a tremendious help too. Sorry, don't want to get yelled at about praises one thing or another. :P I hope to get the ProVid upgraded as we use Steadicam a ton so we need two. So Thomas if you could pass on Brian's contact info, either here or as email, I would appreciate it.
  13. Gentlemen, My company has had some problems with it's ProVid arms as well. We have actually snapped the cables, more than once. The metal at the trunion (sp?) has also snapped. We upgraded the socket block attachment to a masters type. I have heard that, that upgrade causes more torque. Do either of you have this upgrade or have you heard of this happening? Obvisously we have had this fixed but I will try to find the old pics of this, hopefully still have them. Thomas does your friend, Brian, do these upgrades to arms in the US? This will not sound right but, good to hear that others have had problems with their arms, thought we might have a defective one! Jay
  14. Stephen, Was it awkward panning that beast? Looks like it sticks way out in the back? Jay
  15. AGAIN...You really need to take a workshop if you are going to seriously consider being an operator. You are learning bad habits, which in turn make you a bad operator. I have looked at most of you videos, ALL of your posts and read all the replies. WORKSHOP! Sorry about the tone, but what are you looking for here. The feedback you have gotten has all said the samething I'm telling you now, and not much has changed with your operating. It's time to commit to a workshop.
  16. The SOA owns a India Mount, which can be made available for rental. The best way to use this mount would be on a pick up truck with the tailgate removed. It is an awesome way to shoot. When done right it is not that dangerous at all. The seat may get a little uncomfortable for a long ride but it is really great. Contact me at jkilroy@steadicam-ops.com. We can discuss rates. Or call me at 215-919-4636.
  17. You guys can check out Mike O'Shea's website too, he makes a great cage. Very versatile. O'Shea's site www.filmotion.com It may say he is out of stock, but I know for a fact he has a few on hand. Jay Kilroy
  18. Dale, How are you, nice to see you posting. With that outfit you have on it looks like you may be starring in that film. Give us a little background info. By the way get in touch with Frank Rush. We are getting our new Vector, so we should try to work out that trade you wanted with the "easy rig". Hope you are well. Keep in touch. Cheers Mate, Jay
  19. Leigh, Have you taken a workshop? Jay
  20. Mike Your going to need a down converter. I have used an icon on most of my HD jobs, it's worked great. Here is some info on it, although I can't speak for the rental link. Icon Info Good luck. Jay
  21. Although I am bias, I'll throw this out there anyway. The SOA workshop in Pennsylvania is a great workshop. I will not toot our horn too loud here, but I am sure others will agree. Please feel free to read all about our workshop on our web page SOA. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Especially here where others who have been to the SOA workshop can help answer. Good luck with your decision, with all the good choices I am sure it's not easy. Jay Kilroy VP, SOA
