  1. Like everything else, it all starts when one operator includes it and then it's expected by the producers. I did 4 Latin Billboards in the early 2000's, all with seperate focus pullers. Then I didn't do live shows for several years and when I got back to it, Everyone pulls and zooms themselves. which is fine, I'm used to it now but very different from what you see in Europe I'm starting the Voice Kids here in March and I'm hoping they're wireless, but I think it will be wired.
  2. BTWBS is usually only used sparingly with cute extras on set. Well maybe not that sparingly.
  3. How do you power it? And did you place that RCA where an Antenna went before, on top of the Monitor? This may work as a top of camera prompter. Thinking...Thinking.....
  4. Make sure you drill it into the clients heads that only the Visilink or similar unit would do the job at the level they may expect, and any other product may not live up to their expectation, so if they break up more than the client likes on the day, they are aware and don't come back at you claiming they aren't happy with the performance and want to pay less, etc.. I've had this happen before where a client cannot afford the best, rents something cheaper and then complains and moans about not wanting to pay for it. Just protect yourself. Have a great shoot.
  5. Take a workshop, that is an investment right there that will save you money in the long run. As for gear, It doesn't matter if it's new or Old, just that it works. A perfect example is Larry McConkey's work over the years with every rig made pretty much. I'd say 90% of operators with the latest, most fancy equipment do not accomplish the level of precision and execution Larry was getting with a 3A 20+ years ago. So in part it is more your experience and skill than the equipment. The equipment helps, but not 100%. Folks talk about seeing steps in your walking shots with some arms and not with others, screw that, it's about the feeling of the scene, moving the story with the move. The fancy arms and sleds didn't exist when some of the most famous shots even today were done. Practice Practice, Take a workshop, then Practice Practice. there is no shortcut to great work. Enjoy the step up to a 3 piece system from your Single stick, it's a lot of fun.
  6. Got it sorted out folks, disaster averted. AC called picture this rental and they're opening up to get me some batts.
  7. hi folks on a job in Portland and my gear did not make it on the flight. Not a steadi job, I'm running a Sony 800 XDcam which has a v mount adapter to accept AB bricks. So I can use either. I have 1 Hytron with me and that will last about an hour of shooting handheld. I'm working very near the airport. If anyone in the area has some charged batts and can get them to me. Ill be happy to have production rent them from you. My aC with the rest of the gear is stuck on a layover and delaed flight in seatle. We leave back to Wala walla tonight again. Call me at 305 216 8395 if you can help. I'm off Glisan and NE 100th ave NE
  8. Did I miss something, or has anyone suggested to put the couple on a big lazy suzan, have it spin the opposite way, so he doesn't have to go as fast, and buddy..... practice, Practice Practice!!!!!! If you've done 100 takes and it's no good......do another one! but practice practice practice!!!
  9. John, I'm travelling the country for several weeks for work. WA, OK, IA, TX, OH. any of those ?
  10. I love it when an auction buy includes way more than you thought it did. I paid $25 once (including shipping) for a "lot" of "Jurgen Elbow", that was all that was in the description. When it arrived, it was 4 (Four) Brand New Jurgen 35BL4 video elbow prisms with the iris leaves in it. I sold one for 1000 on ebay in like 2 days, traded two more for 2-1000' BL3 mags and hard cases, and kept the other for one of the BL2's I had. Good times!!. Congrats on the Buy. A better way to get rid of it quick, would be to put it on Ebay ( vest, Sled and Arm) as is, start the bidding at 2500 and shipping for like $150 and let it ride. Should move a bit better than the 2500. and like brian mentioned, a Flyer would be better suited for todays work and cost about 4500-5K in the used market.
  11. Job, Have you seen my Silveratray? Slides onto Panasonic, Grass Valley, or Sony broadcast cameras in place of the viewfinder. It's a tray that slides side to side. You can use it to place the Link or RF wireless Return/Program Receiver on it, or you can drill a 1/4" hole anywhere on the aluminum flat plate, and screw on your Prompter monitor. here are pictures.... $150 shipped in the US. I believe I have 3 left available, I'll make some more in Feb when I get back to town.
  12. Hi folks. Bought an Anton Bauer 2700 series Dual charger and sent it in to check out. AB swapped out the power board to a new version and now it's a 2701 Dual charger ( sequential) and the camera power supply output in the back is a 70 Watt power supply, not the 40 it originally came with. Just got it back with the new 5.4 version software. Service date is 12/7/2012 from the factory. I already have the chargers I need, so this one is up for sale. Ready to go. I'll include shipping anywhere in the lower 48 states Gratis. Comes with Power Cable. $450.
  13. Just want to add to what Frederic said, I used an 8' slider and a 3' slider on a show that travelled to many cities, then in one of the cities we couldn't get the original and used two other brands and,... Nothing compares to how smooth the Original Slider is. It's just amazing!
  14. We'll see what GPI suggests, But the Coaxial pins for the HD signal in that 19? pin lemo connector might not make it if repeatedly connected and disconnected.. Now If my Pelican 1650 case was 2" longer on the inside length...... Just 2"....! I'd be able to fit the Pro Gen 3/XCS sled in there just fine.
  15. never wash the vest, ...flys and nats are lucky!
  16. Saw a link for this thread on another topic. So anyone else using the quantem cases? any pictures with your sled in it? Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!!, Ozzie
  17. Just buy a Visilink system. Works right everytime. Over 120K for the whole system, but hey, it's only money.
  18. Hi Timh, On my systems I use the Bebob Zoe ENG-12, and carry the 12 to 8 adapter cable., and underneath I have the small BFD manual focus control box attached to the underside of the gimbal arm. From my understanding, you cannot manually control any digital receiver as of yet, so you'll have to keep a BFD analog receiver for your live jobs. Another way to go is the Stanton Steadicam Zoom and Focus unit. $2095 complete, Comes with lens motor, bracket, cable, hand controller and adapters to mount on your gimbal. It's powered by a 2 pin connector. If you have a top control box ( Junction) that uses another type or style of connector, just Snip, Strip, and Solder 2 cables to the correct connector and your set.
  19. Hi Ramon. The quality is excellent, but pulling focus from the monitor won't do with a .3 second delay, by the time the Assist see's it and adjusts the focus, it's pretty much a second. The delay on the Boxx is almost imperceptible in my experience with it. The only experience I've had with the Camwave product was with the 5 version a couple of years ago and it was Horrible. An assist was running around with the receiver on a stand keeping 20 or so feet away from me, and they still were having drop outs, But I do blame it on the amount of props and steel and scaffolding in my immediate vecinity.
  20. If we were on a production together Will, I'd make sure the production manager added that quote to the "Quote of the day" line on tomorrow's call sheet.
