  1. We had such a meeting a couple of years ago in LA. We tried to rally up people. Quite a few ops showed up (but compared with the number that actually work in town, it was trist) and we discussed the matter in length... Big name guys were a no-show. Many good points were raised... good discussions were had... No viable results were found... and 2 guys in attendance ended up under bidding everybody on two current jobs that were discussed at the meeting, once a minimum had been "set"... Not trying to be a party pooper, but it takes just one guy to set a president that pulls everybody down. Time after time people refused to make it a union matter to set a minimum price for Steadicam Operators as they didn't want to be under priced and/or have a set price... actually we reached it now... it's called scale. Why is it price fixing if we decide to not work for less then X-amount of money, but when the Producers sit down and decide they won't pay more then Y-amount, it's okay?
  2. Try this guys: http://206.171.83.203/Code/Home.asp Tell them I send you. Erwin
  3. Hey Jim, How many of those puppies did i own over the years??? six? seven? Anyhow... I met you at the CP workshop in Malibu, January 2000. You came for the show and tell part on thursday for the Follow Focus section of the course (Charles showed his Preston)... You showed up with your little case and a handunit and motordriver in it... but no motor... or cables... Congrats... Hope you sell another thousand... or two. Ha... and everything started with the old lady... below...
  4. Hi Henry, The main reason people buy the Steadyrig arm, Luna Arm, Tiffen G50, Artemis, Glidecam, etc. is not the weight range, it's the price. You get something decent for half the price. If you are really concerned about the weight range, buy the PRO arm and you will never worry again. You get every pennies worth from your $22K. But then again... do you really want to shlep that amount of weight around with you? I owned two arms so far in my carrier... as a comparison, I owned eight rigs. I bought a DeRose/3A arm because it was in the price range that I could afford... then somebody broke into my car and decided he wanted to take it for a permanent ride and my Insurance company got me a PRO arm as CP was gone and Tiffen had yet to buy the company... so the sole manufacturer of arms was GPI... Lucky me. There is a reason for manufacturer giving you a limit. Will it fly more, sure! But it might just sage or might just as well blow up... there is always a margin of safety/error so that people that don't read the manual don't get hurt. Look for Larry McConkey's post flying an IMAX camera and his rubber band conversion to squeeze out a couple of more pounds on the top end of his Ultra Arm... he got lucky. It's finally up to you as the operator of that piece of equipment to determine what's safe or not. The equipment will always show you instantly if it can handle it. Remember cause and effect any force on the arm will willed an effect... Success or a hair fracture... or both. I can only guaranty that it will fly up to whatever it's rated for... beyond that, It's up to you. Sincerely, Erwin
  5. Try that: http://www.lentequip.com/products/sr3adapterupgrade.htm But you shouldn't have trouble running the SR from your rig. It's 12 Volt... actually it's german so it will run on 14.4 Volt. 4 pin XLR... I usually run it with battery because of weight (to light for my taste)... also make sure that the Video tap is powered of the body and not of the Battery... as of late I ran into that interesting new thing... Good Luck!
