  1. So far HD-SDI only... That was the problem so far, there are tons of RF/UHF/VHF transmitters... They make an analog Wevi but again so far had 5 frames delay, check there website, they might have upgraded that one as well. Later, Erwin
  2. 3. Fixed post is sold. Thank you. Telescoping post is still for sale and available. Erwin
  4. Hey Ron, Here are some pictures from John Radzik in Jordan with the D-20 MK2. That's how it looks with the Venom attached... not as nice as without it... that's for sure. Erwin
  5. I had to learn that in California the so called "Sun State" the availability for Sun Umbrellas in the average size (6 to 6.5 feet) that could be useful for our purposes is only about 4 to 5 weeks a year... can you believe this? After that they retool and you have to wait until next year/season... After several seasons with various brands and models which all died the "AC, Wind, Location death", even though they where made of aluminum, idiot proof, wind resistant... I think I might have stumbled over a company that could be a permanent solution. They also have cute mini pop ups... http://www.popnwork.com/umbrellas.html I have no prices as of yet but I will contact them shortly. Check it out, Erwin
  6. Hey Ron, I'm not sure if the D-20 is still around so it should be the D-21 as all D-20 will be upgraded asap, You will prep out of Clairmont I guess? A person to talk to would be John Radzik: 1 (310) 429-5954, He flew the D-20 MK2 which is now the D-21 for I think 5 weeks in Jordan last year. According to the new specs, the Body is 19 lbs, with view finder it's 25 lbs. It's not to bad considering the cables involved etc. He just remarked that if you end up using the Venom with the set up it get's into the F-900 longevity of the beast... I'm at Clairmont tomorrow morning (Tuesday) if you need any advanced info. I'm trying to fly and turn over a 435 at high speed for the first time since I bought into the Dionics... will see how foolish I will feel after I sold my NiCad batts... Later, Erwin
  7. Please use you full real name as the Login. Thank You, Erwin
  8. And here Mr. Jeff R. Clark as the guinea pig in the Dolly:
  9. I just came home from The SOC/JL Fisher Bar-B-Q. And saw that little dolly set up, Actually got dragged by Jeff Clark and a couple of other Guys... Looks like it could have potential as a Handheld/Steadicam platform. It's called the Bullitt because it was build originally for that Film but nobody ever started to actually build it as a mass product... Until know I guess. It rides on four 8 inch casters that can be oriented and locked in various positions. Has a seat adapter and seat (which looks as it actually came out of the Mustang) that can be mounted that low that your butt is actually inches from the pavement. Or with risers as high as you can make it, has foot rests, etc. Also not sure how well it would perform in off road environment... Expected price: $2500.- not sure with how much of AKS... as that is a prototype. (I like the Color...) Attaches see some pictures... (Sorry for the quality, I-Phone pix with a dirty lens... Oh Well) Enjoy, Erwin
  10. A must have if you are serious: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=7100 Erwin
  11. I got a bunch of spares from GPI. I'm sure you can find them at Mcmaster Carr... but don't ask me for the part number. Call Ashley, I'm sure they can send you out a couple. Erwin
  12. I did a bunch of step on's and step off's over the years. Titan is the way to go, but the Zeus is not bad either... I draw the line at Giraffes and cranes like that... I'm always very conscious about safety and I make sure that I'm the person with the final "NO" even after the Key Grips okay, which usually they turn to me first to see if I'm okay with the set up, before they give there final go ahead. Usually the Key grip is the acting Safety officer on set . I had one incident where the DP almost got me killed... he was riding along for a rehearsal got impatient and jumped of the platform at about 2 feet to go... it's amazing how quick a bunch of 300 pound grips can move if they have to... They caught the platform in mid air... I was able to get hold of the railing... I had expected more from a twenty year ASC alum... oh well. Amspec (Stunt supply store and custom harness maker in Van Nuys) made me a special sling that is padded and has a dedicated release on the back... only ride with a dedicated Grip and only he tells me when to get of and when it's safe... No one else, ...they also made me a belt for Motorcycles and a full body harness for process trailer handheld stuff... 13. Sorry could not resist... It depends as how far do you want to go with the Assistant approach... If you know as much as a Steadicam Operator, you might just become one yourself. And that's what usually happens... Great Assistants, if they are not carrier assistants usually don't hang out for very long... and some ops will refuse to train a prosperctive compatitor... Okay it had to be said... so. Do you want to pull focus for Steadicam? Which is the job of an experienced 1st AC. Build, balance and make it ready for the operator? Which can be handled by an experienced 2nd AC. You should take a Steadicam Workshop, which will teach you what an Operator does and with what problems he is confronted on a daily bases in addition to building camera, and putting them into Steadicam mode and building the rig from scratch... the dangers and required safety that steadicam requires, etc. To be a good Steadicam assistant you should be a good Camera assistant to begin with. Not necessary but it helps you in the long run.... As you should know about cameras, how they work and how they break down. Know all the models that are "Steadicam Cameras". What cables are required for the Camera, like power, run and accessory. Know about the different Steadicam Rigs like the different brands out there which also comes with unique accessories and cables and brackets and modified set ups and operator unique mods and work flows... You do basically everything a Steadicam Operator does minus actually carrying and framing the machine... What I like about my assistance is that they know my set up and all parts by hart, including names and where they are located, so that I can just ask for them and not get blank stares. Know what Batteries to use, where to find them, when and how to charge them. Get me the camera in build mode that will be used on the Steadi as soon as possible and as complete as possible, with loaded mag, a lens, doesn't have to be the one that will be used on the day, the Clip on Mattbox, with possible filters etc. Some Operators like for the Assistant to build and sometimes even balance the rig for the op, I still prefer to build it myself. But sometimes when you are on a longtime show, you don't have the time , especially if yo are also the Operator... to get everything ready. So getting to the rig almost 90% ready to go, makes life easier and gives you more time to spend with the Director and the DP... to create the shot or move... I hope that makes any sense, Good Luck. Erwin
  14. Yes, it's there: Panavision Modular Motor Mount http://www.steadimoves.com/parts.html No picture, it's just after the PAM bracket add and goes for $200.- I think. Erwin
  15. I used to own a second Preston as a back up that consisted of a single channel box with a DM-1 and the Focus -Iris unit and I made it available from time to time to friends as an emergency unit (if they get paid for it by production, I'll take a cut if not I don't) anyhow. Last Year a Production Company contacted me for a Genesis Show (Pilot). The DP was working for the first time with that camera and he was told that he should have a wireless Iris set up. The town was busy and they couldn't find one anywhere and they where desperate to make that DP happy. The Company got my phone number from there 1st AC that worked together with a fellow Steadicam op that used the unit in the past... basically making that AC a hero to production... I agreed because of the Steadicam ops involvement and his presents during production on set. I dealt with the Production and the Line Producer agreed on a price ($750 for an eight day shoot, that's what I was told) made the deal, agreed on delivery and even dropped it of by meeting the 1st AC close to his house. As I met this guy the second thing out of his mouth was: So yeah, how much was the rental, you'll cut me a check for my 50% at the end of the show right? My answer was Hell NO. All he did was getting pestered by production to find a Focus/Iris unit and by chance got my number... that's as much as his involvement went. I had to squeeze the Production for the money as they wouldn't pay more then $500.- I had to proof that I was a company get all the paper work and the insurance drive 20 miles for a drop off and he wanted 50%... I told him that next time he get the unit on a show, we could make up a percentage if he would take care, first all, of the unit and the Production etc. Yes then I could get comfortable with sharing the profits with him. 2 weeks later I got a call from him that this DP had gotten another Pilot and would love to keep the Focus /Iris unit for that show as well... but they had less money and couldn't spring for $750... but it could turn into a long term rental... I was okay with that... 5 weeks had passed since I dropped of the unit with that AC. I hadn't seen any money and my phone calls where not returned as he was out of town... Long story short I finally got the unit back, weeks later... in less then perfect condition, with MANY scuffs and abuse marks, missing parts like Focus rings and cables broken parts like my custom light that I had on made for it etc. Contacted Production with requests for replacement and repair which resulted in some nasty e-mails from the line producer... no help from that AC. Ended up putting most of the money from the rental back into it for repair and replacement of parts. And finally after all that I received "MY share" of the rental check... $135.- my "agreed" upon 50%... He claimed he had given them a 70% discount... on my unit, never the less. He got the glory and my cash... So my answer is... F#@*'em. Sincerely, Erwin PS: I never cashed the check... It's in my car for the case that I ever cross his path again... I wonder how tasty that piece of paper will taste... better to me then to him... No... I can't hold a grudge... Or can I?
  16. I used to have a Magliner Junior, actually 3 in 7 different configurations over the first couple of years I was operating Steadicam. I was restricted by my vehicle which was a VW Rabbit (Golf I) and the cart had to fit behind the front seats plus cases etc... anyhow... Once I had a vehicle that would suite me and my equipment better I thought oh great lets make a bigger cart... As I found out my cart was fitting every little idi bidi elevator in Downtown LA. We have a bunch of Art deco buildings with little units... but my cart always fit. So when I designed my new cart I just added the lengths under the rig. So with the Rig in place the new cart is virtually identical in size as my Junior... but the Rig is protected. Again the cases... I just filled the space under the top shelf as when you put your cases underneath, there is always dead space... As always everybody has a different approach to there kit, it has to work for you and compliment your working style, or it's just hindering you to be efficient.... Just my 2 cents, Erwin
  17. Hey Louis... add a bazooka on it and you don't even have to carry it... you can just walk beside it... but at that point, just go with the handsfree... Ron, liked your little cart... where was that, Grey's Anatomy? Murphy Cart... not so sure about that one. Looks a little wonky. Do you really have to pull out the legs every time you want to balance??? Erwin
  18. As the Scorpio motors are knock off of the Preston ones... check this one out: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=7944 They should fit... Erwin
  19. Oh that was not called for... MY poor red cart! Better Red then Dead.... wait wrong century... Sorry. Erwin"Now I really going to shut up" Landau
  20. "primitive Sachtler"... Kris, one could think that you are equipment bias... a little bit... just a little... idi bidi... bit... Let me tell you about MY superior rig... Erwin "Shut Up" Landau
