  1. I was sure that once I would do steadicam for a while and started to get my day rate, I would get the nice equipment that everybody was talking about. Nice lightweight cameras that would just work, fit, fly beautifully... The following pictures where taken on full paying jobs with a decent budget: What can I say....
  2. I used a Red about 8 months ago, it was one of the Alpha versions serial number in the low 20-ties. No real steadicam friendly parts. I took of the lower rails and mounted the Body directly to the Camera Plate. I actually used the last thread on the body, it was very front heavy. We could only use the Red battery that was mounted way on the top. No mini BNC to BNC adapter so we used the 25 foot cable and taped it to the top. I ran out of space to mount the Transmitter and the Downconverter. After all that it wasn't as light as people wanted to make me believe, about a Arricam LT, I would say. Check out the PL mount "improvement" via Electrical Tape. That was when the PL mount was still turning freely, I was told that at prep they had dropped a Lens as they where not aware of that flaw... No hard drive available at that time, we used Flash cards only (16GB), each change was about 4 mins, each battery change resulted in a 83 second reboot of the camera... And to make it really fun... We shot in a 5:1 aspect ratio! Later, Erwin
  3. Hi Ingo, I went to the Small Business Administration (http://www.sba.gov/) here in the US. I'm sure you can find something similar in the UK, they had a bunch of little online examples of Business Plans and later when I went to there office , they gave me a whole bundle of information how to create a Business plan. I think someone had asked that before, check the archives in the Legal/Business Practice section. Good Luck, Erwin
  4. Hi Art, Welcome to the Forum. I had a talk with Howard Preston in the past about that, The Focus/Iris unit does not have a mounting point (The little silver square with the thread on the back of the full size hand Unit for the Zoom bracket). May be easier to ask Howard to add one of those to your Focus/Iris Unit... Give him a call. It's worth a try... And all the other parts are of the shelf, just an idea. Good Luck and let us know, Erwin
  5. Hey Josh, Interesting unit... Can you actually see anything on such a small monitor? How is the Picture Quality / Range? Mine is going to be quite a little more expensive then the $140.- bucks... Later, Erwin
  6. First of all please use your full real first and last name. Second: Multiple posts of the same Question in different categories will be deleted, if you are unsure of the topic, post in the General discussion and it will be moved accordingly. Trying to keep the forum nice and tight so that in future people can find stuff easier/faster. ----- Are you looking for a solution for the Hand Unit 2 or 3. For the HU2 please check: http://www.cinewidgets.com/ under products. (See picture below). So you can attach the little 3" TFT CASIO, RCA, INNOVISION handheld TV sets that Radio Shack used to sell. They are powered by 4 AA batteries. Check the web: http://www.google.com/products?client=safa...=UTF-8&um=1 For the Hand Unit 3... I don't think that anyone has made a bracket or found a solution for it yet. I'm getting a custom monitor/receiver build. 3.5" TFT LCD that will attach above the Focus Wheel and beside the LCD readout, powered of the Zoom Lemo port from the back. Only one battery (Sony M style lithium) to change. In the moment it's an one off. (I'll post pictures once I get it). Good Luck, Erwin

  8. Firstly Daniel, please change your Login to your FULL NAME, being a member for 4 years you should know better... Also you increase the likely hood that people will reply. Low-high-mode is referred to when you use a J-bracket in regular mode, to be able to drop down the lens hight without going into Low mode. Usually about 6 to 8 inches. Also, The DP should only tell you what height he wants the lens to be, It's up to you how you want to achieve the shot to meet his demands... I don't know how many times I was told to go low mode because they thought they knew and I ended in an awkward position or trying to raise the lens with longer posts, when it would have been so much easier to achieve the shot in regular mode and wise versa... you are the expert and you chose the means to get the shot. Later, Erwin
  9. I believe that you should be fine with the F/X cable for 24 Volt ARRI cameras. Preston order number 4535. I paid $320.- for it... but they just came out with a new price list that is about 15% to 20% higher... Make sure to talk to Preston to find out if they have made a special one as of late. That takes care of the footage display and the speed, unfortunately the shutter is only manual. Hope that helps, Erwin
  10. Bob DeRose with a model one and what looks like a BL-3.
  11. Hi Brandon, I will not bore you with the stuff that was said a hundred times... like the weight shift with coaxial mags, the weight, shouldn't be flown, etc. The fact is that the BL-2 camera is as old as I am. Build with 40 plus year old technology (The BL 1 was developed in 1966)... so many parts you'll need will be, if you don't already own them, hard to find. The Camera weight is 21lbs, the 400' coaxial mag is 7lbs. plus the rest, you should be fine with the Gold springs, not familiar with the Lite rig... you will find out at the prep... I guess... Coax mags (use only the 400') the film will travel from the dummy side of the camera to the smart side. So on long takes you will have to muscle to keep the horizon... The optics are not removable, depending on the modification you might not have a dedicated video assist on that Camera. Some later models had a top attachment thread that could accommodate an elbow with a prism to connect a Phillips video relay (The Phillips Tubes were huge), which eliminated the use of a low mode bracket. So most of the time you will encounter video taps that are connected directly to the viewfinder (which btw was very dark). So more weight shift to the smart side of the camera. And the image will be the size of a postage stamp unless you have a zooming function on your monitor. Low mode, you will need a sushi table or sushi server (Bob DeRose used to make very nice ones) that connects onto the carrying handle, which usually will destroy the plastic cover of the handle AND still slip after a while... thats why most people say Low mode with the BL = not possible... (BTW: hard to find these days, and once you used it the first time, it will stay on the bottom of your kit forever unused... like mine and many many others...) Depending on the year the lens mount will be a 41mm bayonet mount or BNC mount, later Cameras will have the regular PL mount. If you get the early lenses which are very small it will be a challange to get a follow focus motor between the reflex mirror and the clip on matte box. Also these lenses breath quite a bit... Because of the problem with fitting lens support people came up with a square to round iris rod that would attach to the optic (again made by Bob DeRose). The same hole that used to told the square rod for the expandable mattbox (made out of black cardboard?) on the BL 1. As all black Arri Cameras it's a 12 volt camera (vs. the gray ones that are 24 Volt) and uses a standard 4 pin XLR the same you would use for a Broadcast Video Camera. Mounting: The camera has only one attachment thread on the bottom of the body and a grew. If you were ever wondering why you got a location pin with your Camera plate... that's why... which turns very quickly useless as you have to offset the added weight of the videotape by mounting it even more offset the body to one side... which again makes the location pin ehm... useless. So you are mounting a quite heavy camera on one single screw... BTW: again depending on the age of the camera you will need shallow mounting screws. As this camera is very compact it will feel like balancing a Bowling ball on a stick. And what I always say to people that ask me about the BL: You will not be able to do your best work with that camera, period! Hope that helped, Sincerely, Erwin PS: Here a pix with my old PRO and brand new PRO arm in 2002.
  12. Hey Charles, Extreme Ops (2002) http://imdb.com/title/tt0283160/
  13. Try to get the serial numbers from the seller and check with Tiffen, they should have a service history on file. Keep in mind that this unit is not upgradeable (exempt for the Vest connection that can be changed to the Standard socket block). You get what you see... Dave Bittner would be a great guy to talk to about it as he owned one and took it apart himself a couple of times... he is a member on this forum. Or any current or past user for that matter. Good Luck, Erwin
  14. Or try: John Radzik: 1 (310) 429-5954 (cell) http://radziksteadicam.com/ He might have a Tiffen Ultra Vest for sale... Erwin
  15. Hi Ken, Aiken Weiss: 1 (310) 874-5717 (cell) www.happycamera.com He had a 3A vest for sale. Good Luck, Erwin
  16. I saw the movie "Death Sentence" a couple of nights ago. A not so cookie cutter revenge story... staring Kevin Bacon. Anyhow... It's not a steadicam shot, so it would be more in the stile of "Children Of Men". One segment fairly at the beginning, Kevin gets chased by the bad guys, starting on the street turning into full blast running, Steadicam with the Polaris or Mule, handheld on a rickshaw... etc. Eventually they chase him into a parking garage and from then on it's all one shot (ruffly 5 min, at first I didn't realize until the camera went trough some holes and out of the garage and on a different level and so on), as he runs up the levels the handheld camera (Arri 235 in a cage) gets handed off (7 operators, 2 cranes, multiple 1st AC's) switches between Kevin and his pursuers and ends up on a birds eye view of the garage. If nothing else it's worth a look... Check it out, Erwin

  18. Sorry as stated in the above post, they have been sold for over a year now. Sincerely, Erwin
  19. On my rig I have a separate frameline generator to the addition of the 2 in the TB-6, called the UNO that creates an exclusive Frameline or Mattebox for the Video Village. Mine is build into the rig as a board addition, but Greg used to have them stand alone. Or if he doesn't maybe he can make something like that... (You rented the XCS DUO right? that's quite a box, the same as the TR-1 Box from his receiver). I know that Marrell makes a level box that also creates framelines. Maybe something to look into, it's about the size of the PDL. Transvideo has also a Frameline generator box, but might be big for you as well, worth a look. Good Luck, Erwin
