  1. Hey Mark, Do you have the new style Jerry Hill ones or the ones from Tom? Anyhow, with the new 2 piece rings from Jerry it seams there are only 2 positions... crushed post or slipping post... Actually disappointed by the quality or actually the lake of it. I'm ridding my dock ring all the way up under the Camera stage. Greg has drilled and pressed a pin into the ring that prevents it from spinning (and prevents the tighdown screw from loosening on the Ultimate). Also way up in the Carbon fiber post is the aluminum connector that prevents the post from getting crushed... I'm guessing you have the 2 inch conversion for the PRO... right? So the docking ring is slipping over the knurled tighdown ring / PRO dock. Usually placing the ring further away from the connector (closer to the Gimbal) helps. If that doesn't work you could ask Greg to press 2 bolts into the docking ring that are long enough to touch the bottom of the Junction box. Make sure to place them onto the connector support and not directly on the J-box as the J-box has no structural integrity and will deform. I didn't had that problem on my prototype Gore lock and my Prototype 2 inch post back in 2003... see below: Good Luck, Erwin
  2. At a certain point in your career you will have to bend and spend... Meaning when you start getting your full day rate and there are Millions of $ spend a day and everybody is tens... and a little delay, screw ups, etc can cost you your job... yeah go ahead and spend. If Production is paying you squad and the AC is giving you lip... kick him in the B***s and don't worry about it. I call my Follow Focus the most expensive piece of equipment that I never touch... If the AC can't pull with a BFD on a small budget show... Hell send him to Howard Preston. At a certain point, yes you need to have it. You are not there yet. Check the ICG magazine... David Emmerichs running balls out Handheld with a 235 and a BFD attached to it... can't be that bad for Michael Bay. On his rig yeah he has a Preston... The BFD has it's place. So does the Preston. Not sure about the Scorpio and some other units... Good Luck, Erwin

  4. An e-mail I got from Ron Schlaeger : I went on the Steadicam Forum but couldn't log in with my name (told me no such member) sooo I tried to create a new log in/pass word ID but couldn't because my name is already taken - by me!? Somewhat of a catch 22 and very confusing to me. Sometime when you have a spare moment - is there ever such a time for you? Maybe you could help me out with this "issue". No big deal for now. There is so much info on that Forum that it is actually easy to find out what I need without logging in. Thanks again & All My Best, Ron Anyone has an idea? Tim?
  5. From the PDL Users Manual... Assuming it's plugged in and you have a video signal and power on. Press the SELECT button, on screen text should say LEVEL on the top line. If it doesn't, press the SELECT button until you get to the page that says LEVEL. The bottom line of the text box should say ON. If not, press either the UP or DOWN keys. This will toggle the level on or off. If that doesn't work call Greg: 1-805-531-0014 Good Luck Erwin

  8. Hi Norbert, Did you ever see this conversion: http://www.lentequip.com/products/masterseriesupgrade.htm Maybe something you want to check in... Also I can't remember who, but someone used to make an Anton bauer plate that was sliding on the front dovetail instead of the inverter... so you can just pop an other AB battery on the front. And plugs into the banana receptacles... Good Luck, Erwin
  9. The simple reason for some manufacturer of Carbon fiber posts not to mark them or even putting a physical stop is cost and complexity of the problem. The simplest way and the most common is engraving which is done on aluminum center-posts by removing the platting. That is not possible with composite materials like the Carbon fiber reinforced plastic that is used for our purposes. By engraving or marking you are cutting into the material at what point you can't really control the depth of the intrusion and you destroy the carbon filaments that creating the structural integrity of the center post assembly. With a Laser you can control the penetration to some extend but again you cut fibers. The latest (or not so late, depending on to whom you are talking) solution is Silk screening which is expensive and you can end up with many unusable or miss printed posts as it is a delicate endeavor... and did I mention expensive. And it's a glorified china marker approach. It also depends of the way the post and its carbon fibers have been wowen together... Early Master Series Center Posts where prone to sudden disintegration based on the smallest of scratches on the surface. Todays designs with the advancements of Carbon usage and won experiences have created a far superior way to weave the fibers with considerable better longevity and structural integrity. Either buy from a manufacturer that has solved the problems or use a sharpie. Good Luck, Erwin
  10. That were the times of non captured bearings in the early Model 3... I have taken my and other Gimbals apart that many times... I think I should start to do the military drill with covered eyes... maybe not.
  11. Here some pictures of the rig: PRO-2 just came back from GPI. TB-6 just back from Greg.
  12. Hi Jeff, I always used Arri High-speed oil, (that's what GPI uses). You can get a little bottle from ARRI, usually for free as it cost them more in paperwork as the bottle is worth. One bottle is a life's supply as you need only a drop per bearing... Or you could just call GPI they... Greg uses synthetic Castrol oil. Maybe the most fowl smell I ever smelled... Hope that helps, Erwin
  13. Hi Frederic, As said: been there... sucks. Again Sorry to hear... hopefully it will blow up the moment the guy tries it... Karma my friend! I so far won over every single AC (with an open mind, that is) that I worked with. I picked up the Cinetape interface (gives you the read out right onto your HU-3) and they love me. Of course it had a couple of hick ups, but every one was dealt with immediately... so by the time you will get your, all issues will be handled and you will not see a difference in the reliability of the HU-3 versus the HU-2... never had issues on set that prevented my AC from being able to pull focus!!! Mine has worked flawlessly for the last 3 months... But if you need a Scorpio (shudder...) in a timely fashion, I can give you a name and number. Later, Erwin
