  1. Ooops... It seams that the Picture from the CP Prototype, I posted earlier, was actually a flipped image. I found another picture where you can see, that the support arm is actually mounted on the left side and the operator hand is actually the Left hand... Sorry about that...
  2. Hi Brian, Long time... Zero-G Arm, different in deed: It's been ages since I tried your rig and arm. So I see you also went with the tratitional Arm Post and Gimbal Handle and abandand the Arm-Gimbal-in one unit... Loads of 80 Lbs... If I remember right then it was you that, made this special arm for a japanese costumer that could hold 90 Lbs.... (90...Only one word: Why?) 13 Lbs the same as the Sachtler Arm, look out, people will complain about the weight as they do with the PRO Arm that weighs 12 Lbs. Would love to give it a spin, once it's available. Good Luck.
  3. Big brother is watching you!!! And you him... Welcome to the rest of the World. I remember when my Dad use to tell me not to hang up imidiately after we finished a call with my Uncle in then Socialist (more like Comunist) Yugoslavia, to hear the click when the KGB would cut the line... we even found a bug in our Hotel room once... It's just the extension of that, that everybody wants to know what everybody else is doing... Today's assets are Information. Most of the time a Money saver, but always way more worth then Money... Like said welcome to the rest of the world...
  4. You are aware that GPI still sells (a limited number but still) the PRO Batteries? I had a couple for sale for a year before they went...
  5. Okay, I'm sure I'm getting myself into hot water, but so much for the official info... Don't confuse the 2 separate Rigs with each other... The ALIEN Design is the brain child of Lynn Nicholson, who also owns the US patent to all possible ways specially THE two ways to achieve High to Low mode in one continues move. The Revolution is the design of Howard Smith (Owner of MK-V)... the name says it all, it's the "Ring' Design... but he does not own the patents for the US, so you can't sell or buy it leagally here in the States... The ALIEN Revolution is a (or was a short lived ???) cooperation between the two compeating entities. It's more like a "legal" Revolution then an Alien. The Alien concept is (or better one of the concepts, not to talk about the "NO Level Issue") is the ability to go from High mode to Low mode in one continues move without the need to switch to Lowmode as we know it, with the pain of Lowmode brackets etc. The Alien concept is based on a whole new designed / new style Rig. The Alien Revolution is an add on that could be flown with any rig as long as the static/physics would allow it. The Revolution is again a whole new rig set up as we have already encountered parts of it in the form of the Nexus Battery system and the V2 Gimbal... As far as MK-V goes, this company was not yet able to establish it's self here in the US. I personally only know 2 people owning MK-V's. I never had the opportunity to use it in real life situations... At a show it will only tell you so much. My issue with MK-V is the lack of comunication, After the CineGear Shall we call that a "debackle" there was no explanation or official statement, and I mean directly from MK-V and not from affiliated sources or enthusiastic operators... As for the Alien, I had the fortune to try the prototype on several occasions and was very much impressed, but again trying it in a drive way or on a show is nothing like trying it on set under pressure... but I'm looking forward to it, if it ever happens... So... Yes, there are a couple of working Alien/AlienRevolution/Revolution Prototypes out there, but Prototypes only... so they do exist, just not for you to use... So much for the Alien rumors... (Still) Watch the Level and Fly Safe.
  6. How did that post turn into a discusssion about Steadicam letters...??? Anyhow... Garrett on Shinning (~1980) with the model 2. The feature was the reason for the development of the model 2 as Kubrick wanted a lot of low mode and the Model 1 with the monitor LowMode conversion (One shaving mirror) didn't cut it... Also they where using Kubricks personal BL's. Check out the LowMode / Tilt Plate on that BL... ages ahead of it's time...
  7. Look out guys... The Steadicam Letters are a great resource, even though most of the information is out dated, a lot of it still applies... I have multiple copies of the 16 Issues run ( Spring 1988 until the last in July 1995) and still refer to them once in a while. There are bits and pieces scaddered over the internet... BUT: Please respect the Copyright laws... The Letters are Intelectual property of the Steadicam Operator Association (SOA). I would ask Jerry Holway, Mike O'Shea and Garrett for permission (Even if it's only out of courtesy), before just going ahead and scanning all the Letters, also they are already working on that, so save your time and scanner... Actually as Brant Fagan mentioned earlier in a post that I just found (The new Post function still does not work for me, many many posts just don't show up as new...) that the SOA is looking for volanteers to archive and help out... As for the AOL Folders... They were all ereased and are gone for good, nobody owns the rights to them so they are favored nation (is that the right expression???) anyhow I have Folder 1 through 10 (starting around March 1994 until around 98 and 99 with some scaddered random posts, the last couple of months wre lost in one of my early Computer crashes) I also have some left overs from the short lived Steadicam Weboard. AOL #2,3,4,5 are there in electronic form the others I have to work on... when I have more time... Imagine that, I'm actually working in the moment... More to come....
  8. Colin Hudson (Ballenberg, Switzerland; December 2000)
  9. I just found that on Steadicenter... Isn't nobody comming up with an original design anymore???? It looks like a very futuristic styled 3A Arm and that's it. Still uses the 6 Springs, Cable design... what an improvement...
  10. "Twelve Twisted Tricks" Charles Papert (June 2001) Very nice set up of a 6 wheel Gator (Downtown LA).
  11. First use of the CP-35 Steadicam on "Rocky" (1976)
  12. First use of the working Steadicam Prototype on "Bound for Glory" (1975)
  13. Garrett with the first Cinema Products Steadicam Prototype (Non working Prototype, ~1974)
  14. Garrett with the original Prototype (Brown Stabilizer) with the fiber-optic viewfinder (1974)
  15. Look what I found... Garrett with the original Prototype and the fiber optic viewfinder (1974) Darn!!!! Again no pix.... You can find it in "Journals" under: "Historic Pictures..., The beginning of Steadicam"
  16. Found it... Date: Thursday, December 04, 2003 06:03 PM From: Larry McConkey larrymcconkey@att.net Topic: Insurance for Steadicam Owners Message: 1 of 2 Read 174 times -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I talked to Michael Bennett again and he told me that he did not think he would be able to get a program organized for Steadicam Equipment Insurance until the first of the year. He is very confident that he can help us out, however, and give us a product and price that we will like. He is now with Aon which I do not know personally but he says they have a long history of insuring the Entertainment Industry. His number at Aon is: 513-562-4539 and he said he would be happy to talk to anyone who has questions, but he won't be able to give any hard information until January. Larry
  17. Charles, Larry posted something about Mike Bennet putting a policy together by, what?, now I believe... in the 2003 forum before it went read only... Larry, any updates?
  18. Oh, Oh... here we go. Greg called me, he went down to the post office to weigh his sled and came in at about 1 pound less for his Ultimate... Jerry, I measured Kelly Hernsdorff's Ultra Cine with the High Intensity 5" Monitor. I'm aware that any and every rig, depending on the set up and AKS, will tip the scale slightly differently... so just use it as a guide line... I tried it with Anton Bauer batteries and every single on that I own, from the same model, is different in weight and distribution... after every battery change I have to trim the rig slightly...
  19. But who is measuring anyway... right? They got to be kidding...
  20. A good source would be Derrick Whitehouse. It's amazing what he can come up with if he tries... www.whitehouseav.com (check my website: www.landaucamera.com/links for the exact address, phone, etc...) Also post in the Wanted section on boards like here or the SOA, the Homebuilder website, video forums and chat rooms etc... check google. Also check e-bay... Good Luck.
  21. I killed it... It stopped at $40.- bucks... Sorry....
  22. I was absolutely certain I would never own my personal rig... ever.... that's why I took pictures for my "Wish I could afford that Stuff" Album. Remember the first Workshop... I made about 300 pictures... I still have a Still Camera sitting on my cart with the sticker on it "Please knock yourself out and take as many pictures as you like"... Man, sometimes you end up with pictures... Wow... unfortunately most of them I can't show on this Forum... Big Dumb Face: I also remember all that lighting and Grip equipment that they placed stratigically behind you, to make certain you would trip, and there was no spotter to be seen... Running around them trying to stay inside the Procenium not run into the shot of the other Camera (or were there two 435's that the were running at 80 and 150 fps) and jumping over the various C-Stands... Oh also they wanted you to wear these Surgical Covers over your shoes on top of that... The Video was featured in the "Film and Video" mag back then... Charles, we co-owned my first PRO Lite Battery system together (and that was all I owned back then, exept maybe for an Arm Post or the like). The Loader had big issues to load your SL-Cine mags, she just could not do it... so they asked if I ever loaded these mags... They got me a second Bag and I ended up loading a couple of the Long throught mags and got paid for the whole day... (The curse or the blessing of an ex-AC I guess...), That is the reason I don't have any pictures from you, actually operating on that shoot... To this day I end up on shows were I have to show the AC how to load a Steadimag or rebuild the Camera into Steadimode... you would think that they would brush up on that once it is established that a Steadicam day is comming up...
  23. Jerry, CP used to give an arrray of video's out over the years, including the "Master shoots" and the like, would be grat if they could be integrated on that DVD, just a thought... I will get a copy once they are available... Keep us updated with availability, price, etc... Thank you for the initiative... And of course for the original tape... NOW to the next lost Video... Who has the master to Ted Churchil's spuff "A Day in the Life of a Steadicam Operator" I'll buy one too. Take care...
  24. Look It's Arnold... It's Charles Papert DoP (In An Instant, July 2001) Whom I am fortunate to call one of my best Friends.
