  1. Is/was anybody successful in update-ing the Preston Firmware via the supplied downloads on the Preston website? I am on version 1.36 on my HU3. The current version is 2.08. I am using a Mac Book Pro (2010), which it says on the website, that problems have been reported... The biggest hang up was to get the USB drivers to work (and they still don't). I think that Preston should finally provide a LEMO to USB cable... but that's me. Do PC's still use Serial adapters??? Any ideas, suggestions, tips... would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately I can't just drive over to Preston, that would turn into a very long ride from Europe. Thanks in advance, Sincerely, Erwin
  2. Iron Maiden... Number of the beast... 1982... I still have a shirt from then... My first album was Peace of Mind... 1983. But now it should actually be about the Omen and the number of the beast... to stay in tune with the film business...
  3. Wacky? I haven't even started yet... and don't for get your lisigav... remedy for anything Steadicam...
  4. The Panaglide Arm... Here some pix of the Spring loaded version... I haven't seen the Gas shock one as of yet. Single hinge, even though it has the ability to be used as a double hinge, but one side is screwed in depending on which side of the operator it is mounted... No Socket Block, it's mounted directly onto the vest spar... No cables... in some ways they where way ahead of CP... and in others... oh well
  5. Even though I operate above the gimbal in Lowmode... I can see that some people would like a shorty... Give Greg a call (1 (805) 531-0014)... he might be able to shorten one of his wrap grips (kipp handle included)... It's $1000.- new plus labor, or try to find a used or defective one, or crashed as you don't need the fine thread... but it would be a pain to put on as you had to remove the Gimbal, monitor arm and lower or upper electronics/stage to do so... depending on the rig you use... or just leave it on... but live with the longer post do to drop of the gimbal. Off the shelf you will come out empty... call as said Greg or Tom Gleason (1 (818) 489-9370)... but there might not be such a big demand for that item or somebody would have already gone the distance and worked around the headache to get it on the market. How about a Gorelock docking ring or two with Tennis tape? Not as sexy... Or Tom Gleason should have some of the old auto docks that he did for me... that would be about $80.- per unit... use 2 to get the size you want and add some of the non slip 3M tape... or go to a mechanic and let it true the knurl maker... As said, I operate above and even if I wanted one... I wouldn't have enough space in the first place... my post is a little on the shorter side... even in Lowmode. With enough time and cash anything is possible. Good Luck.
  6. The TB-6 is sold as a fulltime monitor as the Marell is advertised and sold as a "Backup Monitor". I was just on there website... They are getting kackie... they dropped the 'Back Up" and are advertising as: "This monitor sets itself apart in terms of value. When compared side by side other leading steadicam monitors the deviation in performance is insignificant, yet the difference in price is astonishing." I will contest that.... You still get what you pay for... always have , always will. I worked twice with a Marell... My PRO had gone to Monitor Heaven and I couldn't get a replacement quick enough... and twice it were extremes, yes but still... One was high noon Griffith Park chasing Jason Statham around... could only see a sun ball in my screen... the other 2 days later.... Spaceship set lit to a 2 stop.... lowmode following a black cable on a black floor and ending on a face... both times I couldn't see sh##! and both times I was not called back... You have a 14'000 Volt Power supply in the TB-6 (18'000 in the PRO) and 4500 Volt in the Marell... it's a good monitor but "insignificant performance difference" ? Don't think so... I'll stick with my two TB-6's... thank you very much... Erwin

  20. Nicholaus, If you hate buying stuff twice then stay clear of Glidecam. You will very quickly out grow it and then you have a piece of equipment that is very hard to resell. Talking about the Vest... Not very well made. Ask David Baldwin how he likes his Gold Vest... He bought it because it was cheap... and he got what he paid for... (Sorry David) A while back I was invited with a friend to check out the then brandnew Gold Arm, We tried to get it into a Model 1 Vest and a PRO Vest didn't fit and what was even better didn't come out either... lets say a hammer and some screw drivers were involved to separate the two. The G-50 as of the 2010 version has a removable Arm post, so in theory you could replace the 3/4 inch post (Master/Ultra) with a 5/8 post (3A/PRO and the rest of the bunch). I would suggest to buy used (you get more for your buck, as you mentioned) and upgrade (if you really want to, most of the time when I upgraded it was more that I wanted something then actually needing it) components as you start working and making money. And don't get pigeon held by one single manufacturer, use what works and what you can afford. But that's just my opinion. Good luck. Erwin
