  4. Hey all, I'm doing a shot in a week or so with this camera. it will be a 15 min continuous shot, so 800 ft mag will be on and the camera comes from Panavision hollywood. I'm prepping on friday, but I was wondering if anybody had any heads up about this camera. Does Panavision substitute the 4 pin XLR power?? is the start stop still the 2 pin Lemo?? I appreciate any inputs, Thanxs :D Dan

  6. Eric, Why you like to do this is beyond me. I'm sure you're happy that you had the opportunity to tell everybody here how experienced and proficient of a pilot you are. Me? I just have an opinion that I voiced. You as a moderator bear the responsability to be impartial and fair, open to opinions. Unfortunatelly, you have shown that you're far from that. It's a shame that you're using this sad happening to show off. That's it, let's quit this...
  7. C'mon Eric, are you kidding me?? Nobody says that there's anything wrong with slow flight, neither do I have a problem with it when I'm not close to the ground, and I don't have to defend my abilities here, but if you tell me that the slow flight you do is in the same conditions as I described, 50 feet above ground, then I'm happy to never share a cockpit with you. Man, I'm happy you're proud of your acomplishments as a pilot, but I would preffer if we leave bashing to the side and we stick to the topic, shall we??
  8. If you are shooting action happening on the ground or in the air, there's a lot of timing and other issues that quickly errode the safety margins. If you are shooting an estabilishing shot of a city, just by overflying it, for ex, the safety margin is much higher, as it only involves the one aircraft. But still, does the director want the aircraft to fly low and slow in a single engine plane? On a feature I did in Costa Rica a few years ago, production wanted to save money and rented a Cessna 172 instead of a choper, to shoot estabilishing shots of the house we were shooting in. The house had a clff behind and the beach in front. I refused to do it, and the gaffer went instead. I saw that plane doing slow flight, probably a few knots over stall speed, 50 feet above the house, and doing steep turns to avoid the cliffs. I was just waiting to see the crash. Luckily nothing happened, but the gaffer was one scared man when he got back to set. Flying low and slow doing steep turns like this is pretty much the most dangerous thing you can do in an airplane. So, if you have to do it, use common sense, cliffs and aircraft don't mix very well. But I still vote for NO. There's a saying in aviation: "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there aren't old, bold pilots"
  9. I agree with Ron, just say no. Aircraft are great and safe machines, doing what they do, which is transporting people and cargo from point A to point B. Shooting is another realm, where safety gets compromised really easy. Fernando has great points about weight and pilot experience. That goes to show you that it is very simple to be in danger. Just say no...
  10. Hey all, So, I finished a few episodes on a TV show. I had bought a Beta package to save on rental, and now I don't need it anymore, so if anybody needs a full Beta package with a Sony UVW 100B, Miller sticks, 2 digital Trimpacs, charger, Century Optics Wide angle converter, AB light, and more, take a look @ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E%3AIT&rd=1 It worked great for the time I had it, and it did take a while to research in order to put the right pieces together, so benefit of that and bid on a great litlle Beta package. Take care Daniel
  11. That sounds really weird. I did season two of Wildfire, for Lions Gate, and had no problems there. I even had my monitor and monitor arm damaged by a horse, when nobody was around, and they were replaced with no problems whatsoever. Keep on top of it, sounds like it will workout if you keep pressuring them. Good luck Daniel
  12. My agent is really good on the negotitions part. He represents 4 of us, so he gives us a vey personal treatment. Plus the fact that he makes and sends out reels is really great, so I don't have to worry about that... BTW, where did Dave's post go??
  13. Not to hijack the post, but, I do not know who the $ 33 operator was, and I didn't know that he was throwing the AR for free. I got offered that job, and I refused the rate and the rental rate. Out in NM I was working on the 2nd season of a TV series. I'm not getting invited back for the 3rd season, because another op gives his gear for 1000 less a week than me and only gets a $1 bump to do Steadicam. This is really sad but I guess most of the time they get what they pay for as well. Dan
  14. Hey all, Brand new, in box, Sony TU 1041 UHF tuner for sale. I bought 2, need just one, so you get this one for $ 380+15 shipping, total $ 395,00. It is in the box that has not been open. Call (213) 840 4525, or e-mail me: camerapilot@gmail.com Dan
  15. Hi, I've been using Baer Bel's for about 5-6 years now, and after havng had a IIIA and someother less mentionable systems, I must say that the Titanium sled is excellent, the electronics are very smart and reliable. I just got done working for 7 months straight on a TV series, where we would use Steadicam every day, and I didn't have any problems whatsoever with the Steadicam gear. THe cameras (SR 3's) would go down all the time, the Preston suffered, but the Baer Bel was always good. Markus is a great guy, and as Guido said, he will customize anything for you, Have fun, Dan
  16. Hi all, As I changed my battery system to Hytrons, I put up a bunch of my batteries for sale on Ebay. I have Proformers and Trimpacs in better than half-life status, and a few dead ones for recelling. Also a quad charger I don't need anymore. Here are the links, good luck!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Daniel Stilling www.camerapilot.com camerapilot@gmail.com (213) 840-4525
  17. Thanx Fred, We don't have that cable in the package, but I'll be needing one, so I'll give you a call!! Dan
  18. Hi all, Quick question: Is the Modulus 2000 compatible with 24V as the 3000?? On my show we have a Canatrans for A camera, Modulus 3000 for B camera & my Modulus 2000 for Steadicam. So far the video assist guy has told me that the 2000 performs just as good as the Canatrans, but the 3000 on my B camera is a piece of overpriced paper weight. So I want to use the 2000 when I'm on B, but the power cable I use from my rig can't be used on the camera, so it would have to be powered by the SRIII (24V). I found it very curious, and it seems that the Modulus is more a question of luck as they can perform quite differently. Does anybody know what the differences are between the 2000 and the 3000? And as far as the 24V goes, I just want to make sure that the 2000 won't fry, as we all know the stelar service we can get...
  19. I actually worked for GMS in Vegas for this year's NAB showing off their HD transmitter. It is fantastic quallity, but they still have a few bugs to work out. The HD version if I'm not mistaken was quoted @ about $ 80K, not especially pocket change... Dan
  20. Erwin, You didn't get my point. I'm not here to say that the Preston is a bad product. How could I? After years and years of aproval from numerous proffessionals who am I to say it sucks? My point was to point out that even a good product can suffer from failures, no mather how much you pay for it. And 16.000 or 20.000 ether value is a lot of money, and yes, I've done my math. I'm sure you can spend a lot more than 20.000 if you want, with options and upgrades, I'm sorry for my lack on monetary precission  Dan
  21. I've used Moviecams with both 2 pin fischer and the 4 pin xlr, but remember: The Moviecam does not like high voltages. If you use Anton Bauer Batteries, you can supply as much as 31V, even 32V and the camera doesn't like that. Normally rental houses have a voltage regulator box. In the last feature I used a Moviecam, the rental house didn't have the box, so I had for the first time, to use a battery discharger, and be very aware of the voltage. It would work fine all the way to 28V, but more than that, the motor in the mag shuts down, doesn't take and then you have a jam... Fun, fun fun... Dan
