  3. This was my starter machine and it served me well. I have moved on to a larger machine. I am keeping all my R8 collets and end mills. You will have to buy your own (sorry!). I built the table for this machine and the machine is bolted to it permanently. I am selling this with the vise and the clamping kit made for this size machine. The table has leveling feet. The machine is not mint but not in bad shape either, typical used machine about 4 years old. This is basically a great starter/hobby machine. That said I eventually was able to make some nice parts. This is a Harbor Freight/Cummins Tools type machine (machine was about $500.00 as new) however parts can be purchased from littlemachineshop.com online. I also have a spare set of gears for it. Machine (as she is photographed with the drill end only) Clamp Kit Vise Table Spare Gears Total $450.00 If you don't need the table I will keep it and take off $50.00. I am located in Agoura Hills, either come and get it or I can deliver to the LA area. I am not really interested in shipping, this thing weighs over 100lbs. Thanks, Steve 323.301.6790 steve@fracol.com
  4. Charles, Your right about the RED and a few others like the SI (I think-could be wrong about the name) they used on some of Slumdog Millionaire. It is basically a super high end optical block that cables to a record device of some sort. It is much more than that I am sure but that is a simple explanation for our purposes of flying. Very light weight indeed and also very high quality. I agree that those are great solutions assuming the DP and or production will allow it. I have only been able to shoot with the RED a few times so I have very limited experience with that camera thus far. I see it has great potential but seems a bit fragile to me. I flew it with the RED batts and every time I docked the sled the camera shut off. Later I found out that the RED battery connection is a weak link so powering from the sled is best in this case. I have not made RED pwr cables yet. My fault. Eager to see your sled. I will post pix of mine once finished as well. Does it bother you to have a different size gimbal with your LW/running rig? Are your monitors different from rig to rig? I guess I look at it more as a back up that is lighter rather than specifically a super light weight running rig. Anyone else have thoughts about this? I am curious. Steve
  5. Philip, I have my "everyday" rig and I have had several versions of a "light weight/running rig" over the years. Your right that if your shooting on a show with an HD camera (Genesis/CineAlta/F-35/23, etc.) your days of using a "running rig" are pretty much over. Some DP's might consider allowing a smaller camera for a shot like that but I have not been so lucky. That said I always keep a 2nd rig around and it was made specifically to be lighter than my everyday rig. Now days for running shots its a way of figuring out how to make the typical (HD) running shot work with a rickshaw or some other device to be attached to so that safety and speed can be achieved and still getting that great looking "running" shot. Most of the time I find it better using a rickshaw...but then again some shots need that organic feel of just flat out running only using one hand on the gimbal and the frame feeling the energy, etc. One of the important things I have learned over the years building several versions of lighter rigs is that it also should serve as a true "back up" rig in case your main rig needs service. I have learned the hard way that a back up of something is not a true back up unless it looks and feels exactly the same as the rig you use everyday. An example: at one point I had a stock EFP as my backup. It was a great rig, very light weight but very different than my everyday rig. Then I converted it to a 2" gimbal and re-designed the bottom to move batts and monitor fore and aft. It turned out to be the coolest thing I have ever created...but every time I used it for something I noticed I was not as comfortable and my work was just not as good as with my everyday rig. So that led me to my latest version which (still under construction) is almost a carbon copy system of my everyday rig. Same size gimbal, same monitor, same cables, same battery system, etc. The only difference is that it is about 1/2 the weight and it does not have all the bells and whistles my everyday rig has. This philosophy about backup/light weight rigs took years to figure out and a lot of trial and many errors (and expenses) to come to the current system that I am working on. This current sled should be wired up soon and then it will be completed. I guess my advice is simply make whatever you make as your light weight rig feel as close to your everyday rig as possible. I am curious if other ops feel the same way as I do about this. It might not bother some people. Good luck and feel free to contact me with more questions if you have them. Best, Steve
  6. "Fracolizer" Sled Weight Plate System This is a weight plate system designed to work with Tiffen big sleds: Ultra2, Original Ultra Cine series, Vector, Clipper series sleds. Any of their full size sleds that have the dovetail bottom. The weight plate attaches to the bottom dovetail of the sled by sliding on and it has a locking system that allows the weight to be placed fore or aft up to 5" for additional balance support if needed. This weight plate system was made to allow the operator to balance the sled with a shorter post when desired. I built and tested a few prototype versions for about 7 months before making this one available to others. As you can see in the photos, you have 4 weight options. If the aluminum plate itself is not enough weight, you simply add one of the extra weights by screwing it on the bottom of the aluminum plate. Approximate weights of the system are as follows: Main dovetail system- 1.0 lb Weight # 1- 0.8 lb Weight # 2- 1.25 lb Weight # 3- 1.65 lb For sales info go to the Equipment Classifieds FOR SALE and see the sale posting. Thanks, Steve

  8. Kata Camera Case I can't find a specific tag with model numbers but this is what I did find if it makes sense to anyone: Model # CCC-2 VA-002-2 I used it for several years and I put a Sony Betacam and sometimes my Arri SR II (at that time) in this case. I think with the trend of smaller video cameras it would be quite nice for most of todays cameras. Perhaps a RED ONE will fit nicely??? Great for moving locations and leaving the camera built. It shows some wear and some velcro inside is pulling out where the camera quick release plate normally goes...so it might need a bit of attention from KATA or your local shoe repair shop (someone with heavy duty sewing capabilities). All the zippers work well. Taking offers! Steve 323-301-6790 steve@fracol.com
  9. Porta Brace MO-TC7WM case This is a case for a Panasonic 7" LCD monitor. Near Mint condition. I bought it but it did not work for my needs. It is missing the monitor hood that comes with it and the neck strap. Taking offers! Steve 323-301-6790 steve@fracol.com

  15. I could be wrong but I believe that currently they make them in different formats (hopefully one model will soon cover all formats?). One for Sony/Genesis 1080-60i, another model for 720p. Can any IDX guys chime in here and set us/me straight? Dan from Tiffen??? You probably can tell us for sure? I know we had to specify what camera we were using to get the system that would work for us. Steve
  16. Do you have any photos? I have not shot with RED yet other than messing with it at NAB a few years ago. Steve
  17. We used 2 IDX HD units on Sons of Anarchy TV show as a test for a week or so. On that show we pretty much put them through a lot. We were shooting with the Genesis. Hand-held to Steadicam back to hand-held back to Steadi again and then on the dolly. We moved fast. They held up well on the physical and grueling part of what we do with all the mode changes. Our assistants were able to Vlock them onto the backpack/toaster systems most of the time. They seem to draw little pwr and don't really seem to be in the way (even though they are rather large). I was impressed with all of that part. OH- and as a note to anyone using an Ultra2, if you add the IDX transmitter to the battery system on the sled, only sandwich it with the REAR battery unless your in parallel 12v mode! If you use the post side battery mount and hit the 24v switch it would not be a good thing. Personally I would rather fly it on the camera anyway. I did not like my sled that much longer on the bottom. As for the picture quality....they performed extremely well on pretty much all of our indoor sets, on stage and at practical locations....as long as we were indoors. Our DIT seemed very impressed with the look and quality however....Outdoors they did not work so well. On all of our outdoor sets we had to go back to hardwire. We did not attempt to record the image as a wireless feed (although that would be so cool), we used it more as a time saver just for our DP/DIT station for viewing purposes. I know IDX is committed to making the system work well and they are very, very close. So I am sure it will end up being a system we will all want to work with soon as far as the HD work goes. Stay tuned so to speak. To work with an HD transmitter system at that quality at that price is quite amazing. Worth having if just for the indoor work alone. Anytime we can be cable free it is SOOOOO worth it!!! That said I still have my trusted and proven CanaTrans for film and or down converted HD! My .02 Steve
