  1. Hi Christopher,

Most likely the voltage regulator that supplies this port got fried by the canatrans. The fastest way to repair is to bypass this regulator. I have done that with my LEH and cameraplatform. When you open the LEH you'll find the regulator is on the top board that is right behind the 28V converter. Have a look at the picture.

    Hope this comes in time.

  2. Yesterday I had the chance to test the setup again.

Same camera same Canatrans but "unfortunately" I was not able to recreate the dropouts.

I placed the sender and the cable at the exact same positions. No issues. I tried it anywhere at the camera body and right next to the card reader no dropouts.

    No clue what caused it.

  3. Hi all,

had a shoot this week with a Red One. I used a Canatrans. All went fine until I pumped up the transmitting power to 1 Watt because we going from outside into a building and tried to keep a signal at the videovillage.

After the 4th take we recognized we had 280 something dropouts. Our data wrangler checked the media and all 4 takes where unusable. We change CF cards and tested and still got dropouts. I then unplugged the Canatrans and the camera recorder without an issue. We went back to 1/8 Watt and continued without issues.

I powered the Canatrans through my XCS sled and the cable (power + vid.) was running close (right on top) the CF card slot. The Canatrans was mounted on a XCS transmitter bracket on top of the camera.

So I don't know if it was the RF from the antenna or additional RF that came over the cable close to the CF card slot.

Hopefully next week I will have the chance to test the configuration again to track it down.

    Any similar experiences out there?

  4. Hi,

Selling two camera plates from XCS. They are in good condition and in perfect working order. They come with three 3/8 x 16 TPI screws and one registration pin.

They will fit all rigs like XCS, CP/Tiffen, Betz, Pro DB 1 & 3, and will fit on 60% of the DB2's.

  5. Swit batteries will power a 435 up to 150 fps BUT only if they are brand new and fresh of the charger.

IMHO swit batteries are good for there prices but they'll bring no happiness on the really power demanding cameras.

    My 2 cent

  6. Last time I asked the German salesman it was close to €2500,-

May I point your attention to this guy:

    Blue Cine

He builds this very rugged clamshells. The new one utilizes a flash recorder.

The recorder is based on ffv flash recorder. He made a really intuitive interface with instant one button push playback of the last take, various playback speeds, ff and rev, index jump through all takes. It will have a monocrome LCD display with all vital information. The backlite of the LCD will have different colors for rec., playback and low bat. We're currently investigating a auto start/stop solution. It will also have the tuner because its on the mainboard anyway. And sorry, no Display for viewing the footage. Hopefully he will be able to place it in a dionix sized housing.

It won't be cheap, means like the mini DVR Pro or a bit more but with a better interface, more playback features, a rugged housing and decent plugs for video in/out and power.

    I will keep you updated.

    Cheers

  7. Bryan,

The Betz tilt plate is NOT compatible with the regular Ultimate camera platform.

You could mount the tilt plate to a XCS camera dovetail and insert the plate into the platform and utilize a catgriller on top of the tiltplate. But this will ad more than 1.7 inch to the sled length and ad lot more weight to the setup.

  8. Greg Bubb made RED power cables for my Ultimate. They work fine.

I would recommend using the Aux port on a PRO as well. With the hard drive the camera pulls close to 6 Amps on a 14.4 Volt batterie.

One the other hand the rental house refused to make run/stop cables for the a camera Arri LCS and my cmotion because of "contradictory information" (what ever that means) they got from RED. We're on the 10th day of shooting and still waiting.

I attached 4 pages with the connector assignment of the RED. IMHO pretty straight forward.

Its from the "build_15_ops_guide_2.2.5.pdf" from the RED homepage.
