  1. I use the AutoScript TallyPlus single digit number for studio shows:

For Live Events and concerts, production usually prefers to hide my tally so the audience won't flock to the red light. But in the case of the TallyPlus, you just don't plug in the sensor.

For mounting, I made custom brackets to hold it above the lens, above the prompter. If I have to use a shotgun mic as well, I mount that below the lens off the dovetail. As you can see in my photo gallery, the forward weight causes the camera plate to be offset to the rear and leaves room for a short shotgun.

  2. That's clearly not a CBS Sports crew member's rig. So many media are credentialed at College and NFL events, and I frequently see team videographers and local news using DSLR's and amatuer rigs. If it were an NBC event, I could probably tell you exactly who the on-field operators are. The poor guy operating this probably wouldn't know production quality if it hit him in the face, and his client doesn't either. I'm certain he's not working for the TV broadcast though.

  3. I had my PRO/XCS sled made to support tally when David Hable did the HD upgrade to the Gen2 electronics. He replaced the Focus LEMO on top and added one at the bottom for a standalone LED cable. He also integrated a tally pin into the monitor LEMO. He even wired up a sensitivity circuit on a potentiometer for me!

It works great so far. Can't wait to see what the Live sled is all about too.

  4. I'm with Paal. I've put it through the paces on daily live work over the last 3 years. I use it on a Canon HJ11ex4.7 digital wide angle lens that has both zoom and focus servos. I like the green Rec Start/Stop button, I program my digital lenses to use it for Return Video on tethered shows. I've also used it on Canon and Fuji lenses WITHOUT a focus servo, and my analog BFD works great. It's handy to have that analog BFD around!

  5. Hey all,

We have an opening down here at Golf Channel for a 40hr/wk Steadicam operator to back-fill me. We're looking for a skilled broadcast operator, not looking to train somebody up. There might be a position for a newbie operator early in 2013 however. No relocation compensation.

This position is hiring immediately. Put my name on the application as a reference and anybody is welcome to contact me with questions.

    Apply here:
