  1. Thanks for the reply Janice. For now I'm entering everything as it is on the 1099's. But this is definitely something I would like to get to the bottom of for next year.
  2. Alright, I have read through all of these posts and I am convinced that I will have to pay taxes on my rental income. Here is my situation: I have received around thirty+ 1099's. All of them have the amount paid in box 7 "Nonemployee compensation." However (2) of them have the rental income in box 3 "Other income", and (1) of them has the rental income in box 1 "Rents." As I enter the information in to TurboTax my amount owed adjusts the same whether the rental amount is in any of those three boxes: Rents, Other income, or Nonemployee compensation. But TurboTax does note this: "You may have income that has been incorrectly reported in Box 7, which should have been reported in Box 3 (Other Income). If you have either of the examples below, ask the person or company that sent the 1099-MISC to give you a corrected form. The amount should be removed from Box 7 and entered in Box 3. Otherwise, the IRS will consider this self-employment income and you will have to pay self-employment tax on the income." Yes, I do plan on consulting with a legitimate CPA before I file. But I wanted to see if anyone here has run in to this. Questions: -I know I will have to pay taxes on that income. But is it a lesser tax than my labor/services? -Is it worth it at this point to file for an extension and have all of those companies re-issue a correct 1099? Or just file the 1099's correctly and know that I have the invoices correct on my end?
  3. Just read through this post. It answered all of my questions perfectly. I needed that piece of mind before spending $80 bucks on shelving! : )
  4. I'm pretty sure they aren't but does anyone know if these monitors are switchable between NTSC/PAL?
  5. Any takers for $600? I don't think I can go any lower than this. This monitor is in great condition and I hate seeing it sitting on my desk.
  6. I chickened out and checked a 3rd bag. My carry on bags looked too funny with a baby c-stand spud sticking out the top.
  7. Well, I'm traveling to New Orleans as a "local" which was made possible because of super cheap Southwest flights. I know it's not ideal for us, but that's the situation. BUT, I'm trying to save $50 measly dollars in baggage fees. Should I just check a third item so I don't have to deal with it as a carry on, OR should I half way wing it and go through TSA. I called Southwest and they said as long as it fits the stand shouldn't be problem. I love Southwest but for this amount of equipment it's up in the air. Also, I'm checking in very early and should be going through security with plenty of time. So if everything goes to hell I could check my second carry on bag (worst case scenario). Sounds like no issues with Bartech's?? Thanks guys, I love this message board. Basically my only form of legitimate Steadicam knowledge. Especially in Tennessee.
  8. I have checked my Master series, I have even carried on my Hytron 100's. However, tomorrow I'm planning on carrying on the following: -Baby C-Stand -Docking bracket -Fiber jumper -Hytron 100's and charger -M-one motor -Bartech Focus This to me screams red flag and I don't want to have to go through security again. Obviously I'm trying to avoid the $50 dollar 3rd baggage fee. Has anyone carried on those things? Any advice? Thanks guys, Tony
  9. I know this thread is very old, but I have some questions. I'm looking in to long term disability through Northwestern Mutual. Not real happy with the person I'm working with. They have been persistent about a "Life insurance plan" that is also a savings. That's a whole other issue. This plan would cover me if I was seriously disabled for life and could not work. It's roughly $600 a year and they are saying they could get me 90% of my income for life (if I needed it). Just kind of torn because this client has lost my trust. But at the same time, if I can't operate I'm screwed. I've already gone through the interviews and health screenings. Does anyone have this? Specifically with NWM? Thanks, Tony
  10. John, when they make that mod do they switch out the thin/flexible Bose cable for a thicker cable (to cater to the XLR)?
  11. Thanks everyone for the replies. I ended up going with the ultra cheap 4.3" from Amazon. I'm planning on powering it from the D-tap by my battery. I'm getting the idea that the quality of the prompter basically doesn't matter : ) The plan now is to power it from one of the Hirose connectors on my Master sled. Has anyone else done this with a Master sled? John Perry recommended this one for a prompter: http://xenarc.com/product/700yv.html Don't know if it's worth spending $300 on this or just buying a cheap $80 7". It'd be nice to be able to buy some inexpensive equipment for once! : )
  12. I have now realized that I need a cheap return monitor. Is their a particular brand or size that you have found that works well? Same with prompter. I have been told that both of these can be regular old composite. For example I see 4.3 inch monitors on Amazon for $35. I don't care about quality. I really just need to see what is in program. Is there a particular reason I should stray away from going ultra cheap? I'd kind of like to spend my dollars on other gear right now.
  13. I'm new to the Steadicam world as well. Still getting through my first year. I have been "winging" it a lot. I have either powered cameras via their own on camera battery (not ideal, I know) or rented/barrowed what I have NEEDED. Basically, I have been buying things as I need them, when it seems like I'm going to use it frequently.
  14. I bought the zoom/focus system. I know this is a long shot... but I need a good fiber jumper. Anyone interested in a trade?
  15. Just found it! The cabling is under "price list."
  16. Thanks guys, just thought of something. I need to acquire the power cable for this thing! A friend of mine mentioned that Bartech sold power cables but I didn't see any on their site under "Accessories." It will be on a Master Series. Simple 2-pin Lemo power cables? Can I simply have this made?
  17. Thanks for all the info Marc. I will definitely be checking out those links. You are very knowledgable. I talked to Erik at G-zoom and he confirmed that the analogue setup will work fine. I went ahead and ordered everything, Bartech, M-one, and G-zoom. Thanks, Tony
  18. Just wanting to check in with everyone here before I drop $5,000. I'm wanting to buy my friends Bartech and M-one (both are analogue) then buy a G-zoom new. My question is, does it matter that the Bartech and M-one are analogue? Do they have any issues together? Any specific cables I need? I'm putting this on a Master Series. To the people that have this setup, any complaints? Do you feel like there is something better? General question: What is the difference between the digital and analogue Bartech units?
  19. Thanks for getting back to me Ramon. Mr. John Perry came through for me though at the last minute.
  20. I need to rent a Stanton zoom controller next Monday-Wednesday (May 21-23) I have one bit it needs some work. So I have the correct cabeling for my Master Series sled as well as the collar for the gimbal. Any info would be greatly appreciated! The guy I rent from in Nashville ended up needing his at the last minute. Thanks, Tony
  21. I know their is still a market for these monitors. I'd like to find it a nice home, anyone interested for $1,000 OBO? Message me.
  22. I'm not so worried about the weight as I have to add weight to get it near 20 lbs. so it will play nice with my Master Series arm. It will have a Fujinon 4.5mm wide on it with the Fujinon adapter (that will power the lens). I just found out that the crop factor is 1.38. I'm thinking about requesting a 4.3mm wide. But I'd like to know if that would distort the image. Has anyone used this setup? 4.3 with 1.38 crop = 6.21mm 4.5 with 1.38 crop = 5.93mm I'd really like to get it closer to what a standard 4.5mm would look like if it were the normal large body 2/3 sensor size. I'm thinking about requesting at least a 4.3mm.
  23. How did your shoot go? I'm supposed to work with one next Monday through Wednesday. I'm still waiting for the equipment list from the client but I believe it will be the stock lens or something similar. He mentioned a Fukinon 7.8 is their widest but I know that won't due.
  24. The replies I have gotten are about trades... This is what I'm looking for: -Bartech -M-one motor -G-zoom
