  15. Hello, Anyone know of plans for any manufacturer to put together a external HD level/frame liner? something like the XCS or Marrel units would be great as it would give us a little more flexibility in monitor choice and allow a better position for the level (closer to the gimbal) Any one got gossip? John
  16. Chris, you seem to be the man in the 'know' how come the 8" monitor (most practical size imo) is not superbrite? if it was I'd buy one tomorrow. I know you don't work for transvideo but they have never ever replied to one of my E mails! Thanks, John
  17. Photo's were mainly for my ego :) oh, and facebook. A steadicam operator with an ego, no, never....!
  18. Hello chaps, Just lost my Red 'virginity' I was actually pleasantly surprised, I had expected somewhat of a nightmare but it flew very well, as Charles said a bit like a ARRI LT. My assistant was not as impressed, with re-booting problems and other software issues but overall it was OK. I flew it with the on-board battery mounted up top with the element technica bars and as you can see from the photo I had a LED light attached also. We used the SD card for recording as the hard drive has a bit of a bad reputation. We were also using some Russian lenses, Elite I think? I was around during the testing and they held up pretty well, not as sharp as Ultra/Master primes but quite close to Cooke S4's in terms of resolution/contrast. They were a bit of a pain because each lens is a different size and my 1st had to keep moving motors around, this also effected the trim of my sled, but overall no big problem. John
  19. Bonjour Louis, 15 grand is a lot of money to spend one year out of school, my advice would be to take a good intensive workshop, go to TSF or Bogard and ask to 'play' with there rigs and just get a feel for the job. Then if you start to get work Rent the rig for a little while (I did this for 5 years). Another thing, have you considered working as a camera assistant for a while? 'Learning the set' is pretty important, and you also earn decent money. (anyone do this anymore!?) If you can pull focus you can still pay for your rig when your starting out. The most important thing I think is that steadicam is CAMERA OPERATING! you have to be able to do one before the other, so experience in 'normal' camera operating is very important. And last of all, good luck! its a great job and lots of fun, just don't rush into it. John
