  1. If youre willing to save up, then go with the Aero. The Scout was replaced by the Aero 15. If you can hold out, go Aero 30, especially for the Scarlet with some of the goodies on there. It will definitely last you a little longer. The other one to consider is the Zephyr. Definitely get yourself into those vests and I am glad that you want to attend a workshop, that will definitely help you. Different workshops focus on different rigs as well. The 5 day Tiffen workshop will be more big-rig oriented, but all the skills are the same. I do think that you should move into a rig that is a bit more future proof and will allow those heavier payloads, like the Aero. You dont want to botch a shot or whole shoot because you opted for cheaper/sooner. Things have a way of working where you put it out in the universe and what you are seeking starts to show up. Basically, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3c_pJ_CLJQ but definitely do your online and tactile homework. brett.

    tiltheads

whats shakin yall?! has anyone played around with external tiltheads, like the cam-jam or chrosziel? i like the idea behind the cam-jam. not worried about having to rebalance on the go or having to play around with dynamic balance, thats all part of the job. i have read around a bit but wondering about some personal stories. could be a fun item to have in the kit regarding the cam-jam : ever any issues with plates slipping or any vibration? the betz claims to be vibration-free. is it the same as the chrosziel model? brett.
  3. hey yall dunno how long itll last but kenyon is doing 25% off of their gyros on their website use the code GETSTABLE https://www.ken-lab.com/ brett.
  4. hey yall curious how yall leave your rig on the camera truck. the last three shows ive done totally different ways. ive got the bad from rocksteadi and am very happy with it. it slept on a shelf the last few months whereas before it was on the top of my cart, which i kinda prefer. ACs would like to make a foam bed for it on a truck shelf. im considering a hard case that is slimmer than a 1650 but tougher, like a thermodyne. just wondering if yall have pictures or ways that you prefer. brett.
  5. hey yall breakin up rigs, trying new things out. heres some stuff id like to pick up as soon as possible -cinelive upper and lower electronics -betz top stage and the fixins -pro, xcs, and other gyro mounts, especially 2" -camjam quattro mount (i already have a few yokes, just looking for the rig mount) -cinematic precision plate (latest generation, thicket than the original) -maybe a 1650 case thanks yall! brett.
  6. ya, i saw that. just getting jumpy and wasnt entirely sure thats where it would be. very well, ill wait... brett.
  7. hey yall the new tax reform means a lot has been taken off of our list of deductions. this includes entertainment (cant write off movie tickets nor meals anymore), even when they are a part of business. however the one that is really getting to me is agent fees are no longer deductible. i have an LLC but that really only means something for my rentals, as we are basically always hired as employees on a show. my agent does negotiate my kit rental, though they dont take a penny from it, only from what I earn hourly, ie as an employee. i feel that i can make the argument that my agent is representing my company as well as myself and maybe can write off the fees that way, but curious to know if anyone has other ideas that are legitimate. the only other thought is to form an S corp and have the production company hire my company and then I am an employee of my company, for which I can then write off the fees. However, that requires me to have workman's comp and I highly doubt that any production is going to want to work with me on that. i guess this isnt necessarily a huge change from 2017 because it was always associated with my as an employee and not my LLC, but the deductions are now so slim and down to 2% so it seems like a significant change. just curious about yalls thoughts. maybe i just gotta eat this cost. but its a big ass cost, especially when so much else is being slashed. brett.
  8. awesome. i dont remember seeing that in the past so ill keep a look out. brett.
  9. hey yall tax time, basically done, but looking to calculate my total 600 withholdings from all paychecks. is this total available anywhere on the my600 website? i have pretty much scoured it but cant find it. I realize that i can go through all of my paychecks and total them up, but just seeing if anyone knows a singular source for this info. thanks! brett.
  10. the 8" pneumatics from backstage are the way to go. the price is rite, the brakes works fine enough, they roll over everything. i cant deal with casters. and the inovativ wheels dont have the value of their price. brett.
  11. Heres a follow up: sounds like there are two sizes of cinematic precision plate thicknesses. newer ones are beefiier, older are the thickness of the diameter of a pencil. sounds like older may not fit as well. still finding out... but another question: does the betz plate fit into an SOS? seems like it would since it is a "universal" plate. specs are 270mm 10.6" / 85mm 3.4" / 10mm 0.4" brett.
  12. im 5'11 and 150 pounds. i have the bottom of the front pad just at/over where my belt buckle would be (i buckle my belt behind my right pocket). have you adjusted the arm so that the rig isnt pulling away from you but rather floats right in your operating position? also try adjusting the velcro area of the back and shoulder straps. you may be able to bring the front of the vest upwards a bit. i go and tweak parts every couple months to feel out different options. brett.
  13. Looks like MKV makes a version but wound up asking Greg Bubb to just pop a hole in his design and he slapped a pin on there. Ive had maybe 6 sets of forks in the past 4 and the XCS is the best. I like the way it has evolved. brett.
  14. I get all of my batteries from John RItter - check the banners on the side of forum. Dionic HC & HCX are a safe choice. John also has his own line. brett.
  15. hey yall this question was almost answered in another post but not as clearly as i would like, so i thought that i would put it to the masses- does the cinematic precision plate fit nicely into the betz top stage? and does the Betz plate fit well into the SOS? i see that purchasing the betz topstage from pro includes a plate but not sure if this plate accommodates alexas and amiras as well as the cinematic plate does. have a good one yall! brett.
  16. have used both the convergent design nano and now mainly use the blackmagic hyperdeck shuttle 2 with some of the mediablackout mods. if you dont mind not having the screen, then i thin kthe workflow is pretty easy. writes to SSDs, formats in exFat.
  17. im not an expert with that rig, but im pretty sure its a closed system, welded shut. could check with or send to cramped attic in BC Canada brett.

  19. i remember seeing photos of some very icy rigs and sets floating around in here somewhere. maybe theres a way of using heated lens wraps to keep your gimbal warm. saw this as well http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=23686&hl=cold brett.
