Funny how it looks like a lot of us Brits like to fly "goofy"! :P
-
I have been flying a battery behind the camera on a battery plate and powering it off that. It's so light it needs some back-weight to compensate for the Preston/Tubes/Mattte box etc. and to give it more spread out mass. Save your $
The above is gospel! It looks a little funky but it does get the weight up top and distributes it better.

Here's the link to Sal's website and contact info:
http://www.cinematicprecision.com/
price for the plate is $475
Sal's plate is absolutely rock-solid! Unfortunately for me, the Alexa package that I was working with inexplicably had no baseplate adaptor, so I was unable to use it on last night's shoot. Sal's plate -- at this moment in time -- doesn't include a BPA, so make sure that the Alexa package you are using has one. And, no, Matthias' adapter block will not work for this plate as the holes for the cheeseplate screws are centered (on Matthias' block) and not offset as per Arri standard (and per Sal's plate).
The setup I was running sounds identical to the one which gave Brooks some concern: Alexa, transmitter, on-board, small primes (super-speeds), and a clip-on running naked.
I mentioned to Sal that with the above package (and especially if you're running a shark-fin w/ 2 on-boards, or, a Hytron 140) the camera needs to come quite far forward in the DBox; he's considering adapting the plate so that it can be moved even farther forward to accommodate this need.
Big thumbs-up to Sal for making a kick-ass product! B)

Just heard this back from production: "...i wont have your cert until Monday, but it just names you as additionally insured,
your covered, i just havent heard what the deductible is yet..."
Excuse me for pondering this, but, what the bleeding hell does the deductible amount have to do with me? Surely they're not insinuating that I would be paying the deductible if anything happened to my equip while on their production, right?
Anybody have an angle/advise on this? Thanks.

Made it through the shoot! Not much moisture, really. I made rain covers for the lower part of my sled using cut-up clear shower curtains and velcro. However, I ended up just saran-wrapping the crap out of everything -- including monitor -- as time was very short. B)

I've been predominantly using 19mm rods on my jobs, however, this past weekend I finally used the Pro rods.
Immediately I ran into the problem of not being able to completely secure the Hill brackets to the Pro rods; I could still grab the motor and pull it away from the lens. I got through the job by really cranking on the kipp handles on the Hill brackets and also by holding the motors against the lenses during calibration, but on more than one occasion I had to walk away from the DP and assist the assistants in getting the motors to stay in contact with the lens.
Looking to see if anybody has ran into this issue and, if so, what they came up with for a workaround.
The Hill brackets work great with 19mm rods; definitely a pain with the Pro's. Attached is a pic of said rods on the plate I'm using with a Hill bracket "clamped" on.
Thanks, all.

Honestly if you really want to degrade your arm performance you'll use a arm cover. This isn't a Tiffen arm, it robust and correctly designed for our use.
You don't need or even want an arm cover
Copy that, Eric. Now that a loss of performance is a part of the equation I am all for not using any arm covers. Thanks for the advice!

The pro arm does NOT need arm covers
I've read and heard this before, Eric, however seeing how much money I've spent on the arm I figured $50 would go a long way in protecting my investment.
Yes, I know I'm being totally anal and over-protective of my baby (which is NOT how I operate!)!

Jerry Hill has the arm covers.

Awesome! And Jerry's right down the road from me.

In the possibility that I am unable to find a TB-6 cover to purchase for this weekend, I'm seeing if anybody would have one to loan for a weekend shoot. Could pick up Friday and return Sunday.
Oh, and possibly covers for my arm (PRO).
Thanks, all! :)

I have no idea if such a product exists, or whether I have to get with my machinist and fabricate one.
What I'm looking to do is slip a "plate" into an open Anton Bauer battery slot that I have on my PRO rig so that I have a solid and flat surface upon which to mount my Archos. I know that I can throw it up on the PRO recorder mount but I've -- unfortunately -- been using that for my Canatrans a lot lately.
Any responses appreciated. Well, almost! ;)

Nick,
I'll take the 2 Dionics off your hands, if they're still available. I'm working until Wednesday; can pick up then! Thanks, Nick.

Thanks everyone for your kind words! Charles Papert contacted me and suggested that I write up something discussing the shot, challenges, execution, etc. So instead of wasting screen space here I’ve made an entry in my blog about it. Feel free to check it out if interested.

NICE! Purchased a 5" wrap. Thanks, everybody! B)
(Still interested in a stubby for the right price ~$50-ish).
-
Looking for a stubby Pro wrap-grip. Pic attached. Prefer black or red. Any colour taken, though! B)
Will consider the 5" wrap-grip which I could machine down.
Something may be in the works. . . :D

Not sure what these go for anymore, please make me an offer.
Dennis

The department tried to have a run/stop cable made for the c-motion to trigger the Epic but it failed miserably. Twice.

Hello!
I've been reading the forum for a while, but I didn't decided to register till a couple of days.
My name is Raquel, I'm from Spain, I don't own a rig yet, and I think I need to learn more before that. So probably I'll be asking questions many times.
My english is not very good so if I make any mistake fell free to tell me
Welcome, from a fellow Newbie! :) Feel free to ask away, however, do your research first. This site is an amazing resource for Steadicam info. I've spent many enjoyable hours scouring the depths of the knowledge of these amazing operators B)

Somehow I've misplaced a monitor spigot--anyone have a spare they want to get rid of? XCS, PRO or equivalent? Maybe we can swap for something. I still have a bunch of parts to get rid of...
Charles, I have an XCS monitor spigot that's in excellent condition. I'll dig it out within the hour and take a pic of it.
