  1. Just checked out the photo section on her website. Looks like there is someone using an SK with the arm the wrong way around in one of those pictures. (The blurry one second down on the right) and yes I know the difference between the two versions of the SK, but this is literally the wrong way around) How odd! -Rick.
  2. After god knows how many years being a rental rig and used by hundreds of operators, I borrow the rig for a week and suddenly the pads need to be washed...what ya trying to say  Rick "apparently has a sweating problem" Lewis
  3. Hey Robin, I think you got the wrong guy. I fly a bigger rig. The person who is asking the question here is "Mitz" However I may pop by sometime. Lets hope we can get those Optex short courses sorted out with Ravensbourne again! -Rick.
  4. Hey Tom, it does actually have an adjustable socket block. Also, if you want, as an optional accessory you can get another adaptor that converts the arms standard two pin connection to a CP pin block so you can use it on standard vests. Hope this helps, -Rick.
  5. *IF* you can get hold of Progear, Jan was selling some of his old style steel gimbals off (1.5") for only a few hundred dollars (well the bearing bit, you need to find yourself a handle and such like.) They keep popping up on ebay, but I’ve not seen any recently, not bad for a homebuilt. Hope this helps, -Rick
  6. Cheers Erwin/Mikko, very reassuring. Thought I’d gone and made a major mistake buying the EFP. But hey, if they all do it... Very irritating none the less. Cheers guys, -Rick.
  7. Hey guys and gals, I’m sure you who have used 3a/EFP style arms have found that during fast movements and running, there is a noticeable knocking of the elbow joint against the arm sections. This doesn’t seem to be an issue when during walking, but when the speed increases, the problem arises. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or instructions as how to help prevent this happening. I have thought about removing the rubber bumper screws and replacing them with a more slim line piece of rubber pad, thus giving me a few extra mm of movement to play with, but I don’t know how practical that would be. I know Baer-bel arms have the cross over design that prevents them from banging, but I don’t know if they do an upgrade for an EFP, whether it would be a cost effective thing to do. Do the other Steadicam arms, master and GEO suffer form the same problem, or was it eradicated after the EFP era? I have used a Provid arm, and this seemed stiffer at the elbow joint, but then again, that whole arm is pretty stiff. Thanks in advance for any responses, and I look forward to hearing your suggestions. -Rick.
  8. :( I thought he was taking the piss... Have a look at the new Glidecam v25. Rick “spelling extra carefully” Lewis
  9. Cheers BJ. I was looking at a silver spring arm myself, but then decided that it was all fine and well having a great arm, but useless if you didn’t have enough money left to buy the sled and vest. Sounds like a good deal to whoever gets your arm! -Rick
  10. Do you mind me asking why you are selling it for a PRO?? -Rick
  11. The EFP training tape with Jerry Holway, and the late great Ted Churchill is a fantastic introduction to Steadicam. See if you can get hold of a copy of it from somewhere.
  12. One was an EFP, because I remember thinking "he has my arm!"
  13. Yeah Jason, shame about the medals. I noticed the set-up too. One Provid, and one EFP. To be honest, the operating from a few of them wasn?t too hot, but I guess you have to take into consideration the conditions. Some very dodgy horizons and some couldn?t hold a static shot. I also believe one tripped and would have bailed completely if the athlete that they were filming had not caught them! But then again, all due respect for covering the whole games.
  14. "I really wish people here would focus on the mission and drop the smartass responses." Wasn?t meant to be a smart-ass reply, and I?m sorry that you don?t have a sense of humour. It just gives me a strange feeling deep down that someone can just discard a Master series under a load of cases like that.
  15. :o throw that "piece of shit " my way!
  16. Just did a little search. Nice MK-V upgrade http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...wtopic=1232&hl=
  17. It's around $12,000 ish new, don't know refurb price. Contact Dean and he will tell you everything you need to know...
  18. It won't. They don?t sell the components separately. I think if you want the silver springs, you?ll have to buy the whole arm. Or have yours fully upgraded.
  19. He just means how far the gimbal can slide on the post. i.e. if you have a heavier camera, you can slide it to the upper end of it?s travel nearer the camera.
  20. And yet another very happy customer... Just got my Blue Spring EFP #393 from rig. It was fully serviced, cleaned and re lubricated, however not refurbished. The arm is fantastic, and their customer service is outstanding. If anyone is looking for an arm, I would definitely look at Rig. -Richard Lewis.
  21. Hi guys. I'm in the middle of putting my system together. Do you think it would be realistic to find a used EFP sled, minus monitor and gimbal for around £1000-1500, if not less? I was thinking of adapting it myself to be able to achieve dynamic balance, after being inspired by Howards upgrade of an EFP, which was shown in a pervious topic. Cheers for reading, -Rick.
  22. The Silver Spring arm is a bit too steep for me at the moment, but in the future I can always trade in the EFP against it if I desire. Plus, the EFP arm is in very good mechanical and cosmetic nick, and is at a price I can afford. It will do everything I need it to, and take anything that I would wish to carry. Plus I recon it?s a very nice looking arm. -Rick.
  23. I've recently bought a gimbal and docking stand off ebay from Pro Gear. Jan is not hot on replying to emails, or posting things when he says he will. He promised he would post on the Monday, 1 week later, I email him, and I eventually get a reply saying that "he just missed the post" well I thought you?ve had a FUC*ING week!!!! Anyway, the parts did arrive and I am very happy with the construction, and the gimbal seems very smooth. Just debating weather or not to but the other bits of my sled from them. Their prices are too tempting for a newbie op. And the gear seems nicely made. I have decided to go for a Blue Spring EFP From Rig, (Their customer service rocks!) over their Progear Light arm. -Rick.
  24. Hey Richard, I did a currency exchange and at the standard of 1 GBP = 1.82728 USD, it figures that 3,000.00 GBP = 5,481.85 USD. That's very close to what the market demand is. It's around what I'm selling mine for. You're looking in the right places. It's the timing that will muss things up. ONE, David <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cheers for the reply David, I'll be looking to buy in the next few months. At least it puts things in perspective. There is quite a bit of choice out there. I was also looking at the ProGear arm, but I can?t find too much information on it. It seems a good price if it is as good as I'm lead to believe.
