  5. Many people in this thread have referenced posts made by Larry McConkey about the 45 degree gyro placement. The link above is no longer active and I have searched and searched and cannot find this post anywhere. Has it been removed? Am I just too inept to find it? I am admittedly horrible at searching on the forum, but I promise I have spent over an hour looking before posting this. I would be very appreciative if anyone can find it and can repost it - or any of Larry's posts on gyro placement and/or use (I have found many Larry's comments in other people's posts - but I cannot find his posts). Thank you.
  6. Hello All. I need to buy more stuff and need to sell my great backup arm to do so. I just had it fully serviced by Robert Luna two weeks ago. So, it is in top notch condition. Mr. Luna completely stripped it down, retuned it, replaced damaged parts, including some of the arm housings, repainted the markers, and more. This includes the arm, the socket block, and an arm post. He tuned it to 30-63 lb weight range. This service alone was over $1400. I am asking $6500 USD and would prefer to ship in the states. I would consider overseas shipping, but for a higher price to deal with the hassle.
  7. If you are just looking for a backup parts, I do have the following parts laying around... -an extra gen I post (the one that telescopes, but still needs a tool - you can probably just add a kip lock and make it toolless) -a gen I super post and long cable - A gen I upper j box with cable (the kind where the cable is hard-wired to the upper j and has the 8 pin lemo on the bottom) I have no use for these items anymore.
  8. I had a user error with the mobile version of the forum.. My apologies for having to repost this. (Maybe someone can delete my earlier post - it posted right in the middle of the post). Here is the full post... Are you mad? Don't send the poor guy to Jack with questions about a Pro I post/battery hanger. Sheesh. The last time I stopped by Pro and asked Jack about my poor, old Pro I sled I got yelled at. Lol. Just watch the Turorial video on the Pro website concerning center posts and it is pretty obvious Jack's thoughts of the gen I center post. Now, I'm slightly kidding about being yelled at, but Jack will be very adamant in telling you that Pro does not support the gen I, they do not have parts for it, it cannot be integrate into a gen 2 system, and if something goes wrong... well, you at pretty much SOL. At least, that's what he told me. I am currently in the process of upgrading my gen I sled to all gen 2 parts. But, it is a process. You need the gen 2/3 electronics (j boxes and center cable), the gen 2/3/4 battery hanger, and the gen 2 post (either telescoping or non-telescoping) as a minimum. Then of course, you need AB batteries (but you need those anyway to run most big cameras and accessories - I have AB mounts hard wired into my gen I battery hanger to bypass the chocolate bars). Pretty much the only things you can carry over are the gimbal and the DBII (assuming you have a DBII). I assume your monitor can also carry over. Another option might be to get a battery hanger from Hugo at steadirig. I am not sure about whether Hugo makes one of his hangers that connects to a gen 2 center post, but it would be worth some research. And then, would you also need new electronics? I guess it depends on your main goal. Like I said, I am knee deep in modding and upgrading my sled to make it competitive in today's market (until I can afford to fully switch over to all gen 2/3 parts), so let me know if you want to chat more about specifics of what parts and why and what can be done for how much/little money. best of luck, Chris

  10. I fly a Pro I with a few mods. I use an AB batt (wired into the camera power) on the lower stage and 2 chocolate bars (aux and monitor). I power the TX via a Pro 12/24 V Lemo to 4-pin XLR. I have tried BNC's from 2 different manufacturers including Tec-Nec and an unknown manufacturer from a local rental house(heavy duty 15' or 50' BNC they use for video village). When I say close I mean 15-20'. Yes they are different cameras. A loaner is a good idea. I have already spoken to Switronix and they want to look at it. They are already replacing the noisy fan for me and wiring the D-tap out to make it hot. I have been very pleased with their customer service. Now I just need a free week to send it in!
  11. What is Auto HZ? And to answer a few questions... I generally run the TX on top of the sled connected to the back of the battery mount. I run HD-SDI cable straight from camera to the TX. On the 5 week movie we ran the RX out HD-SDI to a Decimator, then HDMI into a crappy Samsung Monitor (This job was both RED One and RED EPIC). This could very well be the problem. The only thing is that on my next RED One job I was still having the same problem running HD-SDI out of the RX straight into a 17" Panasonic HD-SDI input. Thomas, what kind of range are you getting with your Recon? And you are not having random dropouts even when close to the TX? Sometimes if I just turn around quickly I have a dropout. I wonder if I am having internal problems with my unit??? -chris
  12. I bought a Switronix Recon Wireless TX/RX several months ago and have had really good results. I did several Alexa jobs and had very few dropouts and a pretty great LOS for the pricetag (75-100 ft consistently). However, I just finished my second RED job with this setup and for the second time I was plagued with dropouts all show long. The first job was a one day music video. Then on a 5 week feature with RED EPIC as A Cam and Red One as B Cam, both gave me serious problems. I talked to Vinnie at Switronix (their customer service has been phenomenal btw), but they have no idea why I am experiencing such problems with RED only. Has anyone experienced this problem specific to RED cameras? Or does anyone know anything I might try? I know my assistants tried outputting several different signals from the EPIC, but I am not sure what all they tried. None of the settings seemed to work.
