  1. Hi all, Does anyone know where I can have case labels made for my Pelicans? I would like to have rugged, waterproof, and scratch resistant permanent labels that include my contact info and the list of case contents. I am in North Hollywood and was wondering if there are any local places. Thanks
  2. Thank you everyone for the helpful info. How do you put batteries in parallel versus series? On my sled, two batteries are used to provide 24 volt power. Are those two batteries in parallel or a series to provide that 24 volt power? A separate third battery receptacle is used to power 12 volts accessories. Can that battery be any chemistry because it is separate from the dual-battery 24 volt power? Thanks
  3. Hello all, I would like to buy some new AB batteries soon and am wondering if it's OK to mix Hytrons and Dionics on the same sled. I have a LOT of Hytron 50s and I am considering buying some Dionics. I have read that you DON'T want to mix chemistries parallel (which I'm not sure if I can even do that on my sled, not totally sure). Otherwise I would get some new Hytron 50s. I would like to be able to handle the power-hog HD cameras and high speed film cameras and from what I've read, I need either Lith-Ion and/or NiCad to do this for reasonable runtimes. Thanks
  4. Thanks for the tips guys. I wound up using a neckstrap for a SLR camera.
  5. Welcome Kevin, there are a couple of former Bostonians here including myself. Have fun on the forum!
  6. Charles, It would have probably been a good day to be shooting with gyros!
  7. Mark, You can contact Tom at Glidecam and he will have a manual he can email to you. His email is tomh (AT) glidecam (DOT) com
  8. They probably thought it was part of the show and stayed calm! I hope no one got hurt today, stay safe everyone
  9. So for some reason, while I was shooting in Rancho Palos Verdes at Trump's Golf Course today, no one there felt a quake. I didn't even know it happened until about an hour afterwards. I've never felt a quake and I kinda wish I was at home to check out the rumble! What did you guys feel?
  10. Hello all, I am trying to find a place in LA (prefer the valley / Burbank area) that would carry a decent comfortable neck strap for the Bartech handunit. I spoke to Jim Bartell and he suggested finding one that didn't have metal clips/fasteners because of possible RF interference. So I guess it would be good to have some strong plastic ones instead. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
  11. Thanks for the heads up guys. I'll give Paul a call. Does anyone know if a 3 year old Quad InterActive charger can still charge Dionics? Is there an upgrade needed?
  12. Hello all, I am trying to get six AB Hytron 50s recelled in Los Angeles and I came upon this website. I am wondering if anyone has done biz with them and how the quality of their work is. http://www.batteryrefill.com/camcorder/index.phtml I called them and they told me they use LG cells and average turnaround is 3 weeks. I have not found any other places they offer such a low price and are in CA. They are in Ontario. Victory Battery was trying to charge the same price as buying a new battery. Thanks!

STILL CAMERA GEAR Mamiya 7II with 80MM Lens $1400 The Mamiya 7 II is a medium format 6x7cm rangefinder camera with interchangeable leaf shutter lenses. It is "The Ultimate 6x7 Rangefinder", virtually no bigger than the top 35mm SLRs. Quiet, compact and lightweight, the Mamiya 7 II has a built-in Aperture Priority A/E meter with fully manual exposure capability. This allows one to create incredibly detailed 6x7cm "Ideal Format" images with ease. A panoramic adapter accessory can be used for true 24x65mm panoramic images. The precision rangefinder is ideal for quick, accurate focusing, particularly in low light situations. At last, photographers have the creative freedom to express themselves with incredibly detailed, ideal format 6x7cm images or 24x65 panoramic format, using an elegant, silent, fast, versatile and lightweight rangefinder camera that sports six ultra-high performance lenses from 210mm telephoto to 43mm superwide. You see the subject at the moment of exposure - without missing a heartbeat. Ideal for photojournalists and all candid photography. The 6x7cm format is nearly 5 times larger than ordinary 35mm format. 6x7 is called the ideal format because it enlarges to standard 8x10" paper size with almost no cropping, thereby using virtually the entire image area. Professionals will find art directors and clients appreciate the large, detailed 6x7cm format over others. The Mamiya 7 II also have convenient and accurate built-in aperture priority AE (with 1/6 step increments), or completely manual metering with LED readouts. In both modes, +/-2 exposure compensation in 1/3 steps is possible. The AE system is able to provide excellent exposures for virtually any lighting situation, even with high contrast subjects. An AE lock is provided to give the photographer final exposure control. All shutter speeds can also be set manually on the camera's shutter speed dial. In this mode the exposure meter can still be utilized by observing the LED readouts along the bottom edge of the viewfinder. Exposure compensation from +2 to -2 EV gives additional manual control to adjust for filters or to obtain certain desired effects. The built-in curtain, activated by a control on the bottom of the camera, permits lens change without fogging film. It locks if the lens is not securely attached to the body. 14. Are people going to Moe's right after CineGear's closing or is there a set reservation time? Weather calls for 100+ degrees again today so I look forward to sweating on the backlot. See ya
  15. Hey Austin, I used the V-16 for a while a few years ago and while I pulled off great shots with it, it seems like the Aviator has a few advantages over it, namely the dual-arm (V-16 is single) and tool-less adjustments. Also the Aviator has a quick release plate, which is very useful. I always spent significant extra time adjusting and mounting cameras on the V-16 that I no longer have to deal with in my current rig. You're best bet is to try out each rig if you can. Good luck.
  16. Gabriele, I own the Gold system and overall have been satisfied with it. For the price it does well for itself and it's weight capacity of up to 38lbs. The vest is well built and cannot be compared to the other Glidecam vests. It has most of the same features as a traditional Steadicam vest. The socket block is well machined and I have used all types of Steadicam-branded arms on it without any problems. The chest pad isn't as comfy as some of the other manufacturer's vests, but you get what you pay for. I am thinking about investing in a Walter Klassen vest and having the Gold vest as my backup. The Gold arm looks slick and has a decent amount of travel. It's based on the 3A arm, so it's not the latest and smoothest, but it still can do a great job. I use an awesome Bosch pocket drill to quickly change the arm stiffness. If you spot a really great deal on the arm and vest, go for it. Do you already own a sled or are you trying to decide? Good luck.
  17. Hey Rob, I'm not sure if you meant this OLED monitor or not. The image looked very alive, especially during camera movement. More organic than a digital image. There was a little bit of interference (faint rolling lines) in the monitor and of course the Sony rep manning that area wasn't sure why.
  18. Just a heads up, I am pretty sure that US Airways doesn't give a media rate anymore. We tried on several recent flights and were denied. Maybe it's time to get our own jet...

Finally, a modern, electronic camera with the true look of film! Technicians ask, "How did they do it??!!" 21. Has anyone here used the Phantom HD on Steadicam? I have a project next week with it. Does it offer any standard def output? If we use the flash packs, does the camera still need to be tethered at all? Thanks!
