  1. I was just at Abel looking at it the other day. Its a great little camera with the emphasis on little. The body weighs just over 4 pounds, and all it's accessories are super light too including Sonys new Vmounts, which are apparently excellent. I'd definitely bring your weight plate.
  2. Anyone worked with it? I know it has some advanced motion control capabilities, but I'm more interested in it for traditional work on a short jib arm inside. Curious how the wheels feel, speed settings etc.. Thanks
  3. Don't know what's wrong with the decimator, maybe try playing with the switches in the back. If your problem though is with the F3 specifically you don't need a downconveter since the camera can output sd and hd. For sd, use the video sdi connection and then you have to change the output in the menu somewhere to sd as well.
  4. Anyone have a combo or similar for rent tmw in New York? Im also interested in getting a used gzoom if someone has one for sale?
  5. Hi Peter I'd be really interested to hear how you think the vest performs with extremely slow moves? My last two years I feel have been all about training myself to keep my hips as level as possible and my movements angular. All of us in our journey learn the hard way when we loose focus of this technique especially when the camera needs to move slowly and precisely, or "like a dolly." How does having pivots effect you're level of precision? I guess as a thought experiment (never having tried this vest) it could go either way. On the one hand since no matter how hard one tries not to swivel the hips when walking, its necessary on some level, i could see the pivots making for a more level socket block than is even possible with a rigid structure. On the other hand I could see circumstances when a pivot action could create unwanted movement in the socket block. Have you been in a situation when you want less pivot? Can you adjust the pivot?
  6. http://www.theasc.co...tly/page1.php#. Not much about the steadicam here but some really interesting stuff about lighting effects and manipulation of old panavision lenses. Lots of great lo fi lighting solutions! I don't mean to gush too much, but I think this film was so visually creative.
  7. Go see this movie. It was totally fucked up, but had some great scenes and terrific steadicam.
  8. Does anyone know a good machinist in New York? Also someone who makes cables? Thanks
  9. Just read the whole Q&A, I can't believe he was only 25 when he started on ER. What an inspiration and testament to the qualities described in this post!
  10. I'm eager to see how the images intercut with the F65. Perhaps this could be a good lightweight body for use on F65 shows for handheld/steadi/aerial/underwater/etc/bacon? Is this the same sensor as in the F65 with diagonal photosites? Also, I think this is the first camera I've seen to record 4K to "cards". Its not the same sensor, but has the same color filter array...explained here: http://blog.abelcine.com/2012/11/01/sonys-pmw-f5-and-f55-defining-cfa/
  11. Matias, I know this you're probably looking for a full sized rig, but if you are really in a bind you can rent my archer2. I have successfully flown an Alexa with accessories, and i have the arri 24v cable. Feel free to get in touch: 917 696 4465. best, Micahael
  12. I recently upgraded to a big rig but I am not quite ready to depart with my beloved Archer 2. Its really perfect for about half of my clientele, but I can't afford to have it sitting around. This is an exploratory thread to gauge interest in the NY metro area for it as a rental rig. I think of it as a crossover vehicle. Its perfect if you have a flyer and get a job that with a heavier camera setup or if you have a big rig and get a job where you need to be light and mobile. I love it for documentary/live work, especially since the whole kit, vest, sled, and arm, packs up into a single case. I also have an adapter post for 5/8" so it can be used with a pro arm (a setup I was extremely happy with). I am also open to young operators who have taken a workshop and don't have a rig yet but I'd have to meet you and see you fly the rig and of course it wouldn't go out without insurance. For rates please email me at michaelhauer@gmail.com or call 917 696. If you think you would be a candidate to rent the rig but don't have an immediate need for it please get in touch as well. I want to see if this is a viable option for me, otherwise I am going to sell it. Thanks for your time!
  13. If there is someone in the New York area that can do the test I'd be willing to help you out.
  14. Take a workshop http://www.steadicam-ops.com/workshop.shtml http://stabilizerworkshops.com/ http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com/ It really is the best way to get started if you're serious about this as a career.
  15. Any decision yet on what connector you are using for tally?
  16. Is there anywhere in the eastern US that i can try out one of the prototypes? I am in the market for a new vest and want to know if i should wait for it to come out. Thanks!
  17. DONT USE THAT ARM Ha! Thats why its mine now :) You wont want to give it back ;-)
  18. Perfect! He had one laying around. Love this community. Thanks Alec!
  19. So I have access to a pro arm and although it is unorthodox would like to use it for my acher2 sled for a little while. Does anyone make a 5/8th to Ultra2 size post adapter? Tiffen has an ultra to archer post but nothing else. Maybe this is a bad idea but i figured it was worth a shot. Thanks
  20. Really like at 57 seconds in.
  21. I just had a need for something i never thought I would: shop glasses. Was doing a music video with shots of sugar glass being broken over people's heads. I think its a worthwhile thing to have, especially when you have a completely useless ad who fails to inform the talent that during rehearsals we don't break things. Was almost blinded yesterday....
  22. Has anyone had the update done for the g50 yet? I'd be curious to hear feedback.
  23. I had to do my first job in really cold weather recently. It was in the low teens but the wind chill made it feel below zero. I kept my operating hand in a mitten with hand warmers until right before the shot and this would hold up the body temp of my hand for the first take or so, but after that I literally had no feeling in my hands. Does anyone use a thin glove in these situations or have a better system? Someone told me latex gloves would help.
  24. "the fact that you have to get all this shit balanced is another bullshit factor"
