  3. Found this bit of info:

According to the U.S. copyright statutes, in a work-for-hire arrangement, the individual photographer never owns the copyright--the employer does. Work-for-hire agreements automatically exist when "EMPLOYEES" take pictures for their employers. For "FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHERS" to qualify for work-for-hire arrangements, the assignment must be specifically ordered or commissioned for use as a part of nine specific items noted in the legislation.

These nine items include a "contribution to a collective work" such as a newspaper, magazine, Web publication or broadcast. In addition, both parties can agree, in a written instrument signed by both, that the work shall be considered a work made for hire. In a work-for-hire arrangement, photographers do not have the right ever to negotiate for the rights to the photos taken as part of the assignment.

According to attorney Kurt Wimmer, "Importantly, either employment or a written contract is required to create a work for hire. If you take a freelance job and don't sign a written contract assigning the copyright to the publication, you own it. The publication only has a license to print/telecast/webcast it. The publication has to come back to you (for another license) for permission if it wishes to use it again or in a different medium."

  4. I can't help but wonder ... what is it about Steadicam that brings all the nutjobs out of the closet trying to reinvent the wheel with their endless variety of designs.

No wonder the art of Steadicam is being eroded with crap like that out therein the marketplace purporting to do the same thing, only way cheaper and .... you don't need experience. I only wish there was a way to stop them advertising using the Steadicam/stabiliser names and then sue the bastards for misrepresentation :-)

  5. Hey Rush

I think your main problem here started with what you think the definition of "Steadi-Newbie" is. This is a professional forum and the "Newbie" designation will usually mean, in the majority of cases, for a working cinematographer with experience and proficiency at the basics of equipment set-up, framing, focus, etc (or "pan-tilt and invoice" as I like to call it ;o) who is expanding his skill and equipment arsenal or someone who is making a very serious financial commitment and long term lifestyle choice. "Newbie" doesn't mean they woke up one morning and decided "Hey, showbiz ... what a good idea!"

If you have little or no real production skills and no money, maybe "The Home Built Stabilizer Forum" is more in keeping with where you are at this point in life: http://homebuiltstabilizers.com/

Good luck with your future endeavours.

  6. Hi all

I am in need of a new or used monitor arm for 1.5" post that will accept a PRO monitor spigot. I'd buy a new one but the folks at PRO don't like me I think as I have a Glidecam Gold and won't sell anything to me.

Any help finding one would also be appreciated. I prefer Paypal for payment.

    Cheers for 2012 to all,

    Norbert

  7. Hi all

Just got an email from Fedex stating that since I neglected to put an amount on the "Carriage Value" line which by the way, I've never been asked to do before and is in really small 2pt type squeezed under the main info box, they are only going to pay $250.

Thanks for nothing Fedex but I'm not done with you yet

  8. Hi Osvaldo

The problem may come from the fact it wasn't picked up by Fedex themselves but by a 3rd party, Australian Air Express, who are the ones who lost it before it was transferred into Fedex's hands.

Yes, it's insured through Professional Photographers Insurance Brokers so I should be covered either way. I hope the whole claim process goes smoothly.

    Cheers

  9. Hi Folks

Just want to pass on some info re: my missing Master Series Broadcast sled. I had shipped it to Indonesia on a hire out as part of a shipment, that included an EFP vest in another box and Fedex handled the shipment with pickup from me by Australian Air Express. The vest arrived in Indonesia okay but the case with the sled and accessories has now been missing for about 5 weeks. Fedex has given up searching so now it's time to make a claim.

The sled details are: Model# 9MS900 and Serial# 195133SF. If you should come across this sled for sale anywhere, please PM me with whatever info you can give.

    Thanx all,

    Norbert
