THIS is a fascinating idea. Wondering how long it took to figure out how to arm in/ arm out by yourself?? Any tricks and tips to this?

I've given away a bunch of very old bits. I used to have the steel ball-socket and T-Handle grips for the Model I Vehicle Mount Kit. You know-- Sitting down and wearing and aiming with the normal posts removed? That came with my rig when I bought it from Ruxton, LTD. in Burbank. Put it together once. So I'd know how. Since Garrett told me at my workshop at house house NOT to sit down while wearing a rig- and especially in a moving vehicle- it was an antique the day I got it. Just about everything else went to others when I sold my Frankenrig Model IIA and bought the Master Series rig.

A problem-solving piece for the kit. The Problem: No matter what brand of rig/ arm/ sled combination, there are times when the arm blocks the upper right area of the monitor or is always in danger of tapping the corner of the monitor. Or BOTH. I've always wanted to resolve this. A while back I did. Operators seem to be finding it very useful. The A.R.M. ( Arm Repo Mount ) shifts your socket block and arm over three inches / 7.62 cm. This clears your view and stops the arm from possible tapping against your monitor. It fits every single vest on the market that makes use of the "classic 6 holes" pattern for the socket block. Below find it shown on both the Tiffen Exovest and the GPI PRO vest. The kit comes with 8 hardened steel machine screws. The A.R.M. is crafted from 6061-T Aircraft grade aluminum and has stainless steel Helicoil inserts for the threaded holes. Every four years we should revisit this thread to update names !!! :) Randy didn't self-identify, but I do believe he's the handsome devil down front, right end of 2nd row, moustache, light jeans, beaming grin. ( That grin says, " Oh MAN. Now I'm in it ! " ) I also think that's Jeff Zachary upper right corner, last row, hands on hips, behind Ron Vidor who is in the jacket. I think that's also Alain Anesto back row center with thick dark beard and round glasses frames.

There are billions of digital palmcorders out there. To me the issue isn't matching the lens of a 24,000 lens. It's just getting an image. Fairly wide- you may want to find a cheap screw-in wide angle adapter. And being able to zoom. Yeah. It's going to be easy to find these things. With wide angle kits. Finding new or good batteries? Harder !! When I worked for Tiffen, I built voltage regulators in a small box for each camcorder we used at workshops. That way, the sled powered the camcorders. It mean they had no auto-shutoff after a few minutes and students didn't have to waste time changing batteries. If the batts are a real issue, look into make the ac/dc converter that ought to come with your camcorder into a power supply plugging into your sled. :) Best, Peter Abraham, S.O.C.

I'VE got an emergency. I loaned my 10" TelePrompter and all wiring and connectors to someone and never got it back. It's in a large Pelican case. ( Well. About 14" x 10" x 8 " deep ). I need this ASAP- if you've got it, you have my cell. Don't PM here- call me. I need it back tonight !!! Doubt it left the NYC area, but I've no note as to who I loaned it to, so it could be anywhere. I'm not the one in a pinch- I'd promised it to Michael Craven, and he's almost in town- and I went to get the case and there's nothing but air. CALL ME !!

Good afternoon one and all, Frequently one of us has an emergency arise. We're in dire need of a particular piece of gear. Either something just broke or was stolen or blew up or caught fire or....whatever. In the spirit of support and the kind of community many of us believe we are and always will be, I have started the Steadicam Rescue Group. As it says in the introduction to this private Group, Welcome to the Steadicam Rescue page. I’ve been pondering this idea for a while and after discussing it with both David Allen Grove and Victor Lazaro ( Admins of the other two primary Facebook pages for Steadicam ), this launches today. Here’s the goal of the Steadicam Rescue page: The ONLY posts that should go here are one of two types and the best way to articulate what the goal is is to create a post for each. 1) EMERGENCY NEW YORK CITY: Need an arm with post to interface with Tiffen M1 sled. My arm was stolen off of my cart a few hours ago. It was a G-70X but any strong arm will do. I have adaptor posts. PM me or my cell # is: XXX-XXX-XXXX 2) GEAR SOUGHT MISSOULA MONTANA: I’ve got a gig in a few weeks in New York City where I’ll be asked to use a Vehicle Mount. Hi Imran !!! :)Tons of things. ( In no order ) 1. Check to make sure the stage travels smoothly fore-and-aft and side-to-side all the way to the end of its range. 2. Find a way to fly the rig under load so you can see if the gimbal pans and tilts smoothly. I can send you notes on how you can clean out the gimbal without taking the entire system apart. 3. If the sled has been upgraded for more high-definition lines that is good. Otherwise you will want to try to take care of that sooner rather than later. 4. Do all power and video lines work properly right now? 5. As far as the arm goes there are a few things to look at. Please send me your email in a private message and I will send you some notes that do not need to be included here ( and are way too long ! ) 6. Buy two brand new eye bolts for the side to side adjustment on the arm socket from Tiffen. This arm is old enough that it is excellent Insurance to simply replace those with brand new ones. 7. Vest. Plastic panels or leather? The MS vests had webbing at the shoulders attached to the Fastex clasps. This is a source of crookedness in the main spar. Find a way to stiffen up so there is less flex.
