DM-1 with Hill rosette, just checked out by Preston. In Los Angeles.

The clamp needs to stay on the top, otherwise you're not getting the benefit of the bearings. The inner race of the upper bearing sits slightly higher so the clamp can ride on it.

My feet are 10.5 EE, New Balance 990 has been my work shoe.

Does it have cap screws on the face plate? Might be able to open it that way, but that would be wrong.

Pull the canisters and clean the two pins and their mating surfaces on the chassis. Not sure what vest you have but I had a similar noise that turned out to be where the plate that holds socket block meet the center upright spar. Took it all apart, cleaned it and reassembled it, no more noise. Pro vest.
