  1. Thank you Janice. You are right. It is working fine now. I did get baking soda but you are right, it made no difference. Thanks again people. Leonard
  2. Thanks guys. I knew I should've googled first before phoning a friend.... The plastic compartment where you put your 10 batteries in is pretty much cleaned up with vinegar. The metal part that you slide the batteries in, though, is a different story. It's looking better but still pretty messed up. I'll get some baking soda.
  3. Hi, Yesterday I found out that my AA battery leaked. By the time I discovered it the alkaline has all dried up. I removed the batteries and did my best to clean up, with only marginal success. The dried alkaline around the battery connections is a little messy and large portion the metal casing is covered with it. My vibrating toothbrush with 99% alcohol is not working too well. I primarily have 2 questions: 1, would Steadicam replace the battery compartment for free? if not free how much? 2, how do I prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks
  4. I repositioned my lever. You are very helpful my friend. I'll finally have my workshop next week. Hopefully I'll stop asking newbie questions! :)
  5. Amedeo: Thanks for your pic. Perhaps you have a different lever than mine. Mine needs to turn downwards , clockwise, pretty much 180 degrees to lock it. And the opposite to unlock it. edit: to be more specific, the last turn has to be a full 180 degrees through the lower half of the turning cycle, clockwise.
  6. Yes Charles you are correct. I would need to raise the release plate a bit so I can turn the lock. Is there a product I can purchase or a DIY tutorial I can follow to build myself for this? Thank you.
  7. Hi guys, I've been flying my HPX170 on a Pilot with AA batteries for several months. It balances easily and I'm comfortable with the setup. Now I'm thinking about upgrading my cam to the EX1. The EX1 is only maybe 1 pound heavier than the HPX170, so the Pilot should be able to handle it in theory. But, I have added the Manfrotto quick release onto the plate so I can go to tripod quickly, and the only way the release can fit onto the Pilot plate functionally is to fit it onto the right side of the plate. So even with my HPX my rig is right side heavy. My left-right CG is pushed very far to the right side. With a shotgun mic or a wireless receiver, I have to open my LCD on the left side to balance it. From just looking at the EX1, it seems right side heavy already. I haven't had a chance to try it but I don't think the EX1 would work with this setup. The issue here is really the quick release, but I very much would like to keep it on. Does anyone have experience with this setup? Thanks.
  8. Thanks Mark. I got it figured out now. I skipped testing my drop time in my previous attempts. It was top heavy. It was static balance.
  9. Hey guys, I just bought a Manfrooto release plate to day so I can go back and forth between the Pilot and my tripod quickly. For some reason I have trouble balancing my HPX when before I can do it in under 5 minutes. Does anyone have experience with mounting a plate on your Pilot plate? Thanks
  10. Thanks I have - came with my Pilot of course. I even saw it before I bought it. According to it I do have dynamic balance. But you know, as a newbie I just wanted to double confirm with a live human being.
  11. Hey there, thought I should drop a line too. I just bought my Pilot today. I have the HPX170 and after spending the whole afternoon putting it on and everything, I THINK I have dynamic balance. I spin it, push it hard forward and back, up and down, left and right, the camera doesn't really wobble. It just rotates ever so slowly a bit. That is a pretty good proof that I have dynamic balance, right? The problem starts when I put my left hand on the post. It then starts to wobble and stuff. It seems like the more I try to control it with my left hand the worse it gets, but I have to use my left hand to actually frame my shot. Is it a matter of practice? Should I get that EFP DVD or are there other GOOD options right there for in home training? Thanks alot. This Steadicam thing is fun!
