  1. I'm reasonably sure that camera, and many other ENG style cameras have a 4pin Hirose in the rear that delivers 12V power out. Getting a cable that works with that jack would be a very universal solution.

Be wary of that 4 pin Hirose. Some of the camera's aren't designed to supply the amperage out of those connectors. I think on the Varicam it's only 400mah. Fine for 2 wireless packs, but you may blow the breaker if you try to power the BFD.

    Robert,

One solution is to use 2 adapter plates. Get and IDX to anton bauer plate, and an anton bauer back to V-Mount. The Anton Plate should have the P-tap you need. Not ideal, but it should work.

Our IDX plate does have a p-tap on it. But that may vary depending on type. I guess they may not all have it.

  2.

While we have bought and sold off much of the cavision stuff, the only thing that we have kept is the LW rod setup. The mattebox and follow focus were junk, but that LW rod setup is pretty good. It is also threaded at the bottom with a 3/8" hole so it works with the Arri Plate for the Pro 35, for a nice rigid setup.

  3. Hey all,

I'm sure this is covered somewhere but a search did not produce an answer. How many cycles can you get out of a Dionic 90?

    Thanks!

It seems that Lithium batteries can go for about 150 to 200 cycles, but seem to "wear out" after about 50. Granted, they're still better than older technology, they just seem to lose a little bit of that power after a while.

Our IDX's used to power the Varicam for almost a day of regular shooting, now slightly under a half day, but that's still better than the NiMH stuff.

Do a search for the genesis, I think it was discussed there.

  4. Yes I got one, after my endeavor in northern California, and direction like that: "Just take the second street from the freeway exit and keep driving until you see a flag and then look for the trucks". Honest, that was the directions on the "map")

    This one?

  5. No, but should have. Probably could have made a day rate on ebay for it.

Yes, but you would've had a rather small window in which to do so: the time between the release last night and the articles published this morning about how there are still plenty available to purchase at retail stores.

Wow, I just looked it up. There's a ton on ebay today. Weren't that many yesterday.

Well, worst case scenario is that I would have had to keep it. Darn

  6. I was just wondering.

And if you did get one, did you stand in line next to people saying, "the 17XD4r that apple uses is twice the Thz of the 55Fx3 that Microsoft has. ha ha ha" and so on?

    just curious.

No, but should have. Probably could have made a day rate on ebay for it.

  7. After way too long away from my axes, I've been getting back into playing guitar. Anybody else out there jamming on something and interested in a little acoustic jazz folk metal shred?

    Dan

Is the cowbell position still open, or did David snatch that one up?

  8. I was watching the PGA on TV in HD (one of the best HD broadcasts on television next to CSI: Miami) and noticed a steadicam. This raised a lot of questions for me. I am curious what exactly is his job, i.e. what kind of shots is he getting because you don't see many steadicam style shots in the broadcast? Is following a certain player, or just covering a certain path on the course etc.? I wonder if it is an NFL Films type of thing were he was shooting for another purpose other than the broadcast. It seems to me that would be a grueling job hiking a golf course all weekend, so what can you charge for such an event? Is he part of a broadcast team that travels with the tour or do they hire local guys when the tour comes through? What type of HD wireless transmitter is he using and how much does it weigh? How to you handle batteries (charging and changing) when you have to cover so much ground? How many gallons of water did he have to drink each hour just stay alive out there? This just raised so many questions in my mind that my head was a risk of exploding so I thought I would bring it up here!

I am sure there are other questions to be discussed that I have missed here.

If that guy is out there on the forum, I would love to hear from him.

I saw an operator out at the TPC Sawgrass. He had an EFP. He was too busy to stop and say hi, So I don't know who it was. I did see him follow / lead Phil on 18 in the final round, and he was hardwired to a handheld uplink. Got to see the work on the jumbo trons there too. Nice job, had to be tiring.

He did have a golf cart, as did a lot of the handheld guys too. I'm sure they had a dedicated utility for batteries.

  9. Hi Lucas,

The Mako should have come with a box that you plug into the x and y axis seperately. You can adjust the sensitivity and response times with that. We had it for a few days for a boat to boat shoot, and found some good combinations. i think it was a slow sensitivity to cancel out the vibrations, but a fast response time to fix it.

    Make sense?

  10. Me thinks there is an "Andrew Jansen" virus going around. I just looked it up in my Treo, and on the desktop...

Phone numbers completely erased. I only have a physical address, and that will take way too long to get an invite out for tonight.

    Sorry.

  11. I'd like to jump in to praise Transvideo, and Marianne.

I ordered my Cine 3a from Derrick, and got it the next day. (needed it fast for an out of the country shoot)

Also ordered some custom cables, and they were shipped same day. (Had them shipped ground cause I didn't need them straight away)

You should be carefull of your comments, Erwin. You are an influential person on this board, and a moderator to boot. Transvideo has been an excellent vendor to lots of us.

  12. Oh, how I love them Helicoils.... Actually, Permacoils.

Life just wouldn't be the same without.

Just did the clamp on the lower stage of an EFP post.

And the "I" beam into the D-Box 2.

    Sachtler Tripod Handle

    The list goes on......

  13. My old one broke, so I need a new one.

can anyone recommend one in the 30-$40 range?

It will be used on the rig, around the house, on the car...etc. maybe once a month or more depending on what breaks.

Anyone have a favorite to reccomend?

    Thanks

Love the little radio shack one. it's around $20, and folds nicely in half.

  14. What's an HDX 900p? I've yet to use it or even hear of it. Is it an HD version of the SDX? And if so, I'm surprised Panavision is carrying them.

Panavision bought out Plus 8 (I think) and are offering the HD Camera's thru them. I don't know if they would do that in LA, since both vendors are still there, but they are offering them in other markets. (Orlando)

As fa as being "panavised", I'm not sure about that. I don't think they have done any modifications to them yet.

  15. I have a relatively new Steadyrig arm which works great, but it's been squeaking the last couple of times I've used it.

Anyone have tips on SAR (Squeaky Arm Remedies)?

Dan "Trying to Place Nice With Sound" Coplan

Mine was more pinging than squeaking.

Call Hugo. He will walk you thru the process. I did this about a year ago, and haven't heard a "peep" since.
