  1. I should have time to. I don't own a video camera though.. funny huh. I can borrow one from work. BFo
  2. Hi Lukas, I noticed the changes a couple of days ago, but didn't see any post about it until yours. It does feel a little cleaner. I like the new options when replying, although I don't think I'll use things like, CENTER or This box to insert code. Maybe it's because I don't know any odecay. 174 Charlie :: :: :: Go green But I'm sure for the good of the forum. I did notice however that I don't stay logged in anymore. Is that to thwart spammers? I'd be interested in a list of things that were new and improved. Bryan
  3. Hey wow, that's pretty cool. Thanks for the messages "y'all" (I have to say that since I live in the south. It's a requirement) It's nice to be remembered! My wife planned cool things, and made it a memorable day. And happy birthday to Charles. Have I caught up to you in age yet? =)
  4. Thanks Alec for the update. And thanks for the hard work. Stay warm up there. =)
  5. I guess I'll contribute to the "i have" list =) We got a Garmin c330 before thanksgiving. It's been quite good with directions, and seems to be highly rated. I like how easy it is to remove from the windshield mount, and tuck away out of prying eyes. It was under $350 dollars, so I liked that part too. It doesn't speak the road names, and if I were to do it again, I might spend the extra money to get the c340, but I may not. Mine has been great though.
  6. Hi Jean, I've used the A-minima on a couple of productions. It's very light, and my EFP arm (blue springs) needed more weight. I ended up using my practice cage with it, and it helped bring it in the weight range. I don't remember having any noise problems, but I wasn't paying much attention to that. The Audio dept never complained. Because of the light weight, I used the camera batteries for power. Hope that helps some.
  7. Congrats Guido! That's very cool! Does he have a name yet? I hope you are getting enough sleep. =)
  8. My old one broke, so I need a new one. can anyone recommend one in the 30-$40 range? It will be used on the rig, around the house, on the car...etc. maybe once a month or more depending on what breaks. Anyone have a favorite to reccomend? Thanks
  9. Not if you don't use your full name as your screen name. We delete Non real names post's around here Good grief, He's new, being polite, even says Merry Xmas, and you threaten to delete his post if he doesn't use his real name. Is it really necessary to talk to him (and others) that way? Most other forums on the internet don't care what you use as your name. I think it's great that we want to know who people are here, but you have to realize that what you are asking isn't normal, and the way you are enforcing our policy makes all steadicam operators out to be arrogant 14yr old brats. Be nice please, at least for the time when you are writing on this forum.
  10. Yeah, I've had 2 things go "missing". Once, we had an overnight package that didn't arrive for 5 days. We contacted the driver, and they said, "oh, yeah, I just didn't have time to drive down there." (It was being delivered to an office down a 2 mile gravel road) I think it's the insurance coverage that helps things go missing. When you put the value at $7,000 for an arm or something, I think it helps people choose what to "loose." But I think listing the value on the outside is the only option.
  11. I think it's a great idea. I'd be more than happy to put what gear I have up for others to see. I'm happy to help whenever I'd be able to. Also I think it is a great opportunity to show new ops, and the film community how supportive, and happy to help some of us are. Do we just add what we have to our profile? Or do we need to have a special section added to the profile? Bryan
  12. I need a monitor bracket, and battery bracket for my EFP. I like the MK-V mods, but can't afford them at the moment, at least at full price. I prefer the independent up/down fore/aft movement that the MK-V and Ultra models use. If anyone has a solution that would be great. Same thing goes for the Battery mod. Bryan Oh, I'm mounting a Cinemonitor3 on it.
  13. Hi Charles, Yep, I can take some photos and post them. I'll probably start another thread though, so the two topics don't get lost together. Bryan
  14. Thanks Adam, Ah yes, I forgot that. I do have backstraps. Thanks to Peter actually. =) bf
  15. Hi guys, Sometimes my legs begin to go numb after operating, and I'm not totally sure why. I've always caught it, and it will go away after 8-12minutes. some facts.. I've been operating part time for about 2 years. I've been to two workshops (a 6 day and a 3 day) and haven't felt the sensation at those workshops using their vests. I have an EFP vest that I've modified with ultra ratchets. It has happened before and after the mods. I've shot live shows that last an hour, and all is fine. Then I've done a 15-20min shot and i feel it starting. I've tried adjusting the height of the vest (how low it drops on my waist) up and down. Thinking it might be where the weight is carried, I've tried to adjust the chest straps tighter, and the waist looser, as well as the opposite. I know the pads are old. Probably the original. Any ideas? It's frustrating... =) Thanks Bryan
  16. I was just wondering, can you post items for sale in this section if you are not a sustaining member?
  17. Hi Jason, Try FFmpeg, and/or Flipformac. that's my 30 sec of freetime. back to work. =) bryan
  18. Hi Brett, Welcome to the forum. I agree with Will and Matt. I would ask your brother about things that worked for him in CA, and adapt them to your market, and spend as much time as you can reading the posts. (just ignore the random rude, demeaning ones...=) I'm in a small market. I think there is one, maybe two other rigs in my town. One to a company that hasn't used it more than 5 times in as many years, and the other belongs to a film school I'm friends with, and teach beginner steadicam at. For me, I looked at my market, talked to people, production companys, and realised that I might have to show people what a steadicam does, how it can be worth the extra money, and go from there. I knew (know) that I won't retire from the work that will come out of east tennessee. But that works fine for me. I can do other work as well as steadicam, and might move to a larger market later on. I bought my rig (a 10yr old EFP) from a friend, and have been making upgrades to it as the jobs bring in enough money to pay for them. It's one way to get going, and work into a nice rig if you don't want to drop $50-80K on equipment you are not totally sure how quickly work will come. I've been to two workshops in 2 years, and learned LOTS both times. I'm still a beginner though. The rest of what I've learned has come from reading, messing up, and bugging more experienced operators, who surprisingly enough...became friends.=) *waves to friends* Hope that helps some. Bryan BTW, 65 views might be a quick look, then a run to do something views. Not 65 deep contemplative views.
  19. So.. to update this thread, 5 months later... =) I need to remove my current gimbal to have it repaired. I was told once how to, and took notes, then lost them. Anyone have instructions handy? Or even some photos of a gimbal swap for an EFP? I'm just nervous about ripping things apart willy nilly. Thanks Bryan UPDATE So, I got the wiring out of the bottom of the rig, but now I can't seem to get the bottom of the top stage off. The part with the Kipp handle that you can adjust the height with. Anyone? thanks
  20. =) or H.R. Giger Admittedly, it's something I can't create...at the moment. May the money come rolling in.
  21. Hi Rob, congrats on a new rig. I'd recommend a workshop straightaway. The SK2 is a smaller rig, and if it's hurting your back, you need to make some adjustments soon before you hurt something, or form them into a habit. With good form, and a healthy back you can fly cameras 3-4 times as heavy as an XL-1, and feel fine after a day's work. (in my opinion) If you can't get to a workshop, arrange to meet an operator in your area, see if he'll spend some time with you. Offer to pay him if you can afford it. It will be well worth the money. (as long as he doesn't make fun of you, and talk constantly about what he's done and how good he is *grin* ) I'm not Dutch, but when you say pendulum, do you mean in relation to steadicam, or is it a night club in Utrecht? =) Good luck! Oh, it's a requirement here on the forum to put your first and last name. I'm sure someone will nicely tap you on the shoulder and let you know how easy it is to change your login name to have them both. Bryan
