  1. Erwin,

    Sorry for interrupting again.

    Mr. Fletscher,

Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it. 35 bugs? Good for you. Start a shop.

I live in Europe and it is only a little bit difficult to get that special pin in 2 days.

The PRO arm doesn?t has washers in the socket block joint, they are only located in the ellbow.

    Erwin, it?s yours again.

  2. Anthony,

the original PRO bolt has the same diameter as the aircraft pin. You?re not adding an extra connection, you use the one already existing. I didn?t experience any additional flexing in the arm. Give it a try, it is only about 140 USD from Tiffen.

  3. Hi all,

I?d like throw in my two cents.

Rob, if you reach the mechanical limits of your arm while hard mounted, because of ruff terrain, any arm is likely to fall apart, not only the socket block. Steadicam arms are not designed to withstand such kind of forces. Garrett addressed this issue on the first workshop I participated.

You need to build a frame around the hard mount that is big enough to handle the maximum or your desired arm range. On each corner you connect strong rubber bands and connect them to end of the arm. The config has to be adjusted so the arm can?t reach the limit in any direction. Make sure your arm, arm post and gimbal are secured to each other.

This way you are able to handle terrain that would normally exceed your arm range. Works like a charm.

By the way, the original steadicam aircraft pin fits perfectly into the PRO arm.

  4. Had a similar call yesterday:

Producer asking me if I'm interested in working on an image-film for a department of BMW.

Long phone call, short story: He's offering 50%, good footage for my reel, and asking for my reel.

    But my all-time favorite is:

A UPM asking during wrap if I'd like to come tomorrow as well. They were just informed "no tracks and dolly in the President suite". But they don't have the money to pay me for the day.

To make a long story short:

UPM: "... would help us a lot ..."

    Me: "No."

UPM: "... a favor for me."

    Me: "NO!"

UPM: "... a favor for DP and Director ..."

    Me: "No!"

UPM: "... I will pay with a bottle of sparkling wine."

Me:  It took me some time to get this ..., ... ..., "I do not accept payment in kind."

    He took it personal.

The picture below is my video/power cable for DCR-PC 100 (sony M-syle batteries).I glued an dc-dc converter from Hawkwoods (http://www.hawkwoods.com/) into the battery mount cover that comes with the camera and added the 3.5 minijack and the power lead.

  6. Hi Kes,

    I use the Bär-Bel sony-plate.

It locks the camera very rigid to your Rig, it is lighter and cheaper than all the other base plates using a fast locking mechanism

and you are able to mount 15 mm rod to it.

Also a nice advantage is the profile is as low as a regular base plate.

Together with the loss of weight you get a very short rig.

But you might encounter two obstacles:

If you have a Camera with a Chroziel V-Mount (15mm adapter) replacing the original, you have a good chance that the 1/8 thread in the V is not cut well and the screw does not fit. If so don?t use the Bär-Bel plate or get a thread cutter.

Some times you run into a V-Mount where the thread and and hole pattern of the Bär-Bel plate do not match exactly. No worries here it is always possible to get the screw and the bolt locked together to the camera.
