Ah ok, that makes total sense - I was wondering of the weight, though, heard here and there that the Atlas is even a bit heavier than the Titan but never saw any numbers.
-
Hi Frederic, why didn`t you sell the Artemis arm and go all the way with a Titan? I`m not criticising, just curious. Mariano

New Fawcett/Tiffen exoskeleton vest

I fear you`ll single handedly choke the next one asking about the price, Chris... ;) -
Oops - sorry Job, and thank you Eric for the hint, I misread Job`s answer!
-
Larry not just tested the arms, he went straight ahead and used them in a production, Job - how much more testing does one need? Besides that I believe the conditions both of you mention are at the absolute extremes any operator and arm may get into. Most / a lot of us will never get there (thank god ;-)

Eric or someone else may have some insight into this, but in my theory, as the Arri LCS has a bidirectional link the position change should registered by the potentiometer (or whatever is sensing the rotation) in the motor and be reported back to the hand unit. With LDS or S/i lenses it should be even a lesser issue as the lens settings are generated by the lens itself. But please correct me if I`m totally wrong, it`s just speaking my theories out loud.

Not sure of the sonys dimensions but the majority if the system is universal. What you will need is a camera specific "baseplate/riser" that mounts the camera to the cage system aha, thanks for the info! then I hope they`ll produce one for the Sony or at least some kind of variable riser
-
Hey Eric, I have a little question regarding the cage - is it universal or are there components which limit the range of cameras you can put in? I am asking because I pre-ordered a Sony Alpha 99 DSLR and this cam obviously is not (yet) listed on the Arri kits page. Thanks!

Yep, I'm going to visit everyone on this forum and do it personally if necessary ;) Jesus F. Christ! Chris hammered for three hours on my door at 2 a.m. and wanted to take my measurements! I had to call the cops to get rid of him, instead he measured the police guys...:D

Just started training Steadicam, uploaded a video
Mariano Costa replied to Michael Desiderio's topic in Steadi-Newbies
My advice is also to take it off, I skipped to the 1:30 mark and left the video when the annoying guy (he reminded me of the junkie-robber from 5th element...) was still there. There are almost only two rules for showreels: 1. only use your very best material 2. put the even better material to the start -
Hi Eric and Andrew, thanks for the detailed info, gentlemen! I really love the direction Pro is going, they were great before Jack took over, but now they`re getting unbeatable with all those options and new modules/components.

wow! that`s even lighter than the archer sled w/o monitor/batts - which configuration was this?

I read the heated discussion regarding Lynn Nicholson`s Alien and the dispute with MK-V some years ago and also remember that there was a brief contact between Lynn and Garrett towards marketing the Alien via Tiffen, but unfortunately that was the last thing about that machine. Does anyone know if there`s still somethin happening or is the Alien officially gone? That would be a real pity as it looked less bulky and more open than the Alien Revolution from MK-V...
-
finally - kind of a solution! Even though it`s a pity that Robin won`t share it here, whatever the reasons may be.
-
the difference felt a lot more(approx. 1.5kg) but perhaps i'm mistaken. The pro weights listed are correct Eric, thanks for the confirmation!
-
Thanks, Job! These infos makes it even more tougher :D Regarding weights - one dealer quotes the G70 being 5,1 Kg and the Pro between 4,1 to 5,3 Kg, depending if you attach 2 or 4 spring canisters, actually not a very big difference.
-
Mariano, Are you seriously asking me to compare G-70 VS Pro arm? Is this a trap? This will certainly make Eric appear and he will bite my head off. But, I’m a courageous fella. So here it goes. Thank you very very much for this very long and interesting explanation! And sorry having brought you into this situation! You know...comparing X with Y... :D
-
HAH! I found the old thread/posts where it was mentioned http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1716&view=findpost&p=24508 http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=1716&view=findpost&p=12488 what a pity the manual never came out...whatever the reasons are...
-
I was almost certain Eric would stomp in asking me if I`m nuts for comparing a G50/70 versus Atlas/Titan :D What a pity that it (field maintanance) was not kept, even though I know that springs won`t break so easily and dust/water should be avoided - it`s always better to have the possibility to disassemble stuff when necessary. Evrim, why did you still choose a G70 when you used the Pro (Titan) before? And regarding the covers you made - did it interfere with the arm`s performance in any way?
-
i second it! very good question indeed. Thanks, Evrim - but it`s quite strange that not a person chimes in to enlighten us... :D I hope some of the Tiffen folks can share their knowledge regarding this - right now the Atlas arm is making it very hard for me, as it has a gigantic advantage in this area (maintenance)!
-
Hi all G50/G70/G50X/G70X owners, I have a question regarding these arms and maintenance - I remember having read that they can be easily and quickly disassambled for cleaning and maintenance by the operator himself, I even believe a service manual was planned (but I never found that on the net...). Am I remembering this correctly and if so, how often are you doing it (cleaning etc.) and is it really as easy as he (I believe it was Garrett) said?

New Fawcett/Tiffen exoskeleton vest
Mariano Costa replied to Fabrizio Sciarra SOC ACO's topic in Vests
Hi Chris, does this mean there won`t be just a rear mounted extension arm for the socket block, only in connection with the 3rd segment? Until now I thought this is a "dual mode" vest. And a second question: I wondered (a question to anyone who tried this vest) if it "feels" like front mount or back mount? Regards, Mariano -

Is it correct that the vest will be released somewhere in september? I believe I read something like this - sorry if I am wrong!
