If you want it to be done right....
Victor Lazaro replied to Erwin Landau's topic in Cases/Carts/Stands and Transport
Wow! I would love to learn more about your cases and how you use them... Nice job. -
I was actually thinking about that today when cleaning my Zephyr, I was annoyed by the keyring getting stuck under the dial of the arm and was thinking about inverting it. I didn't do it because I thought that gravity would play me a trick. I'm sorry for your rig. Thank you for sharing. i guess you will not make the same mistake again now. ;) fly safe

Hi, NAB is coming soon, and I was wondering what you were the most looking forward to see there... Any hopes or expectations?
-
No problem. Also, I am only looking in the HD monitors. Other new surprising monitor is the Sony DVF-L700, it's actually a 7" "viewfinder" for the F5/F55 but is full HD screen and can decode 4k signals. I don't know the vrightness but il looked pretty high when I saw it (I was indoors and at night...). It has a "high" button to toggle the high brightness. Other wise it is pretty good in color rendition and has a dedicated plug for the newF cameras to communicate as a EVF. Oh, and it's $4,500. http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/product/viewfinders/dvf-l700

Hi, I was looking into all the available high brightness monitors for steadicam on the market and created this list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aln7iPn_kB2sdHowWElqVk1HWlRkdjgxcjJKN01XRGc&usp=sharing Feel free to add any info or monitor into the list, I'm sure I'm missing a few. PS: I had a look at the new TV Logic one yesterday at AbelCine in NY and it looked great.

Nice. I just Velcro+bongo ties it in place of the secondary battery (don't have the extra batt plate).

Hi, I know that a lot of people are recommending Walter P. Dolle (http://www.wpdolle.com) for insuring your rig. I am about to buy a used Zephyr and I was wondering if I should use this insurance or another since it's not a big rig. Also, does having a workshop certificate helps with the insurance? (I did the 2 days Tiffen one in NYC last year) Thanks for your help.
-
Bonjour! IMHO, there is no better training than training every day a little. I would recommend getting your own sled over the workshop. It won't stop you from renting out a larger rig if needed and doing the workshop at a later date. May I also recommend watching the EFP DVD sold by Tiffen and any other video training you can find. I personally did the 2day workshop and have been working off a friend's zephyr that I am now planning on buying back from him. Bonne chance.

using the forum at cinematography.com

I have two different accounts. Both forums are made from the same forum system (like DVXuser and REDuser) but are not synched. -
Paralinx Arrow HD?
Victor Lazaro replied to Pascal Combes-Knoke's topic in Video Assist and Video Accessories
You can also look into the Teradek Bolt. Basically the same thing but SDI with a metal housing, Lemo plugs and an internal battery. Pricier but more of a pro solution. I still like the arrow as I am looking on using it with an epic on the extra HDMI to a hand held SmallHD monitor. -

Merlin Steadicam Hardware Problem or User Inexperience
Victor Lazaro replied to Daniel Munteanu's topic in Steadi-Newbies
It would help is the video wasn't private. May I recommend also posting over at DVXuser.com as it is more oriented toward large rigs over here. Make sure that every accessory is tightly attached and that no strap or cable is free. Nothing should be moving or even vibrating when shaking the rig. Fly safe. -
Use some lisigav on your gimbal.

Have you contacted the maker of the vest for replacement padding. Which vest are you looking into re-padding?

Abel Cine and B&H have the parts...

Even if wrap stabilization is used in production, you should not use it in your demo. Let the people see what you can really and let them decide what effects to use on their projects. As for the stairs shot I agree that this shot could appear in a film without problem, but what has been suggested is that a shot leading will be more interesting for a demo reel as it is harder to execute. Also the mood is very dark (I like the back light but still dark) V.

F65 on Flyer LE (power supply and balance)
Victor Lazaro replied to Pascal Combes-Knoke's topic in Operating
Way to go bro. Even the epic is borderline for the rig (Zephyr is more in the ballpark). Fly safe (please) -

Victor Lazaro replied to Pascal Combes-Knoke's topic in Operating
Wow! So you were not joking about this. That's sad. And the producer is ok with that? -

F65 on Flyer LE (power supply and balance)
Victor Lazaro replied to Pascal Combes-Knoke's topic in Operating
This MUST be a joke! If you have the budget for a F65, you should have a budget for a real Steadicam and operator with the appropriate tools for the job. Otherwise, use another camera that the Flyer can fly (Epic) DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!! -
Any official word from Tiffen?

This got me more confused. what is the issue and what are you trying to achieve?
-
Velcro? Or DualLock on the post.

Do you have to be part of the union to get your rates paid
Victor Lazaro replied to Scott W Warren's topic in Steadi-Newbies
This seems like an extremely low rate. It's actually bellow my non union AC rate. Lets say you turn down a job at this low rate. What will happen? Is there another operator that undercuts you? You may want to go talk to him. Rising both your rates will benefit the both of you. Are the production going without Steadicam at all? Then they might not even need a Steadicam in the first place am you will end up doing the human tripod for the day. I noticed something interesting that the lower your rate the less you are respected on set and the more crap you get at the end of the day. As said before have the power to say no to a low rate. They may struggle on one shoot without you then when they failed their plan B will come back to you and accept any rate.
