  1. I use Ziploc freezer bags, 2 gallon/XL size. Fits around my SmallHD DP-7 with a Switronix Hypercore 98 on the back. Two bongo ties, one on the top and one on the bottom on my monitor to keep the bag tight. Plenty of extra bag to even cover the monitor yoke up to my post and the storage bag has decently thick plastic.

    Goes on quick, comes off quick. Not going to claim its the best solution, or the prettiest but it works for me.

     

    Combine that with Glad clear plastic recycling bags for the camera and sled, tightened up with binder clips and I'm good to go. All components are clearly visible and when done right, access to the camera is quick and easy, doesn't weigh anything and adapts to just about any sort of camera setup you may have.

    Rain gear thats specific to one design of sled/monitor/what have you strikes me as too specialized. The situation on set is always changing and I want my rain protection to be able to change accordingly.

    I dig your design and looking to use it as inspiration. I'm dealing with a topless jeep wrangler that has a 1-1/4" hitch with a tongue rating of 350lbs. My plan is to buy a cargo tray that attaches to the hitch (same load rating) and bolt some speedrail flanges to it. The vertical speedrail coming out of the flanges will also have speedrail cheeseboroughed at the top of the rail back to the roll bar structure of the jeep. I think I'll also incorporate Jess' piece of speedrail T-eed off the vertical onto the bed of the vehicle, with sandbags and me sitting on it. The vertical rail being the piece I mount the arm to.

    With the hitch only supporting the weight of the arm, sled, cargo tray (30lbs), and some speed rail bits, I feel confident we'll be below the 350lb tongue rating of the class II 1-1/4". hitch. I myself will be sitting in the car safetied to hard points, just like your setup. I can even run ratchet straps to fixed points or gutter hooks to help take up the load on the cargo tray. Worst case scenario I toss some speedrail starters into the frame of the jeep and beef up the support of the cargo tray.

    Please chime in with any ideas or concerns! I'll post some pictures when the final rig comes together.

    I have the same vest and had to crunch it all the way down in the vertical adjustment. I also did away with the small middle pad in back, the one on the lowest (hip) buckle strap. Otherwise I couldn't get it tight enough on the hips. In the end I feel the vest could be even smaller for someone our size. I wonder how much it would help my operating to have a custom sized vest..... Just one more thing to upgrade...

    Though I think trying Jerry's advice will help both of us. Which sled did you end up getting, the cine HD?

  4. I've only setup an F55 for a camera/lens test for an upcoming feature but its very very light, five-ish pounds (alexa is 15 stripped). Had no problems with my DP7. SDI out on the camera, through the sled, through my Camwave, into the monitor. No idea about the Bolt but I don't see why there would be any issue. Power cable is standard Sony 4 pin XLR. You'll want AB batts to beef up the weight of the camera though. No idea on run/stop cable.

  5. I have a shoot coming up where I'll be flying an Alexa with Panavision Series C anamorphic lenses. Lookin for any tips or info regarding operating with them. I understand balance and vibrations can be an issue, though the Series C seems to be on the lighter end.

    Is this the sort of situation antlers would come in handy?

  6. Well I disassembled the battery mount on the Artemis and it looks like I should be able to swap the V-mount plate out for a QR Gold plate in terms of sizing and screw mounting holes.

    Anyone have any experience in this sort of swap? I haven't seen the back of the Gold mount yet and I'm wondering if its going to be straight positive to positive, negative to negative wiring or is it going to be more complicated....?

  7. Whats wrong with IDX?

    Well everyone on here seems to come to the consensus that ABs are the best choice given their tech, customer service and almost universal availability. On top of that there seems to be drawbacks in the V-mount design based on some of the posts in this forum (wear on the contacts).

    I'm not against getting IDX batteries but I have less experience with them. Endura 10S? Is that the best battery they sell? That is at least what Tiffen seems to be selling.

    This is my first sled but I have a feeling my batteries may out last it.

  8. Questions for y'all..

    I have a Sachtler Artemis, its currently V-mount, and I need to kit it out with a battery setup. It seems to me that AB batts would be the smart decision given how great they are etc. My question is if there will be significant drawbacks to using adaptor plates (V-mount to AB gold mount) all the time?

    Would it make more sense to convert the sled to AB Gold mount? I'm not entirely sure what that would entail. Simply taking the V-mount plate off and putting on a gold mount plate?
