  1. Ok, great! Thanks for the input Eric and Jens. I'll look into these. All the best LE
  2. Thanks Eric, I've read that Canon's printers have a built beef up of colors so it's a more saturated look. So the printed image won't be 100% identical to the original photo from Photoshop. Do you know anything about this?
  3. Hi, looking to buy a good photo printer as a lot of the shops nearby print shit prints. It's only for family use. Been looking at Epson Stylus Photo R3000. Anybody used it? Experience with it? Do anyone have any other suggestions for a good printer. Price range up to $500,00. Thanks LE
  4. Done a few football games (soccer for you Americans who actually think NFL is football  ), there I always had a spotter. So I think the norm is that you usually have one. The ops pride must have taken a bump though. Feel for the guy.
  5. Hi Sandro, I'm quite pleased with the monitor. I paid $ 2.200,00 USD for it. So considering it's over half the price for the BON compared to Cinetronic or Transvideo, it does do a good job. It has all the features of a good HD-SDI monitor. False color, focus, R.G.B.gray Waveform, Anamorphic etc. It has digital levels, but these aren't accurate enough, so I've turned them off. It has several viewing options. Auto luminance (which I don't use, Indoor, Outdoor and Daylight). Daylight is of course the brightest option. And to me, it doesn't seem that the monitor just pumps up the brightness to give you Daylight. So I'm pleased there. Outdoor I have never had any major problems with viewing conditions. But if the sun hits your monitor straight on, it can be more difficult to see the image. The monitor does not have AR coating, which many would probably want on a Steadicam monitor. Do I want it? Sure, but am I willing to pay $3K + extra for it? Not sure about that. But Steadicam is only part of my income, a lot come also from DP work. So if you're a full time Steadicam operator, perhaps a monitor with AR coating is more to your liking. That said, I moved up from a 700nit SD monitor to this 1100nit HD monitor. So I am happy. And if I ever want a Cinetronic or similar, I'll either keep the BON as a director's field monitor or sell it. And it's a kick ass monitor for the listed price. PS! It does not have flip mode, but I imagine this is just a firmware upgrade from BON. Hope this helps Fly safe LE
  6. Yup, I have it on my rig. What's your concerns/questions about it?
  7. Yeah, used multiple BNC cables, and direct monitor to camera. So the problem is in the top stage somewhere. Tiffen has already been in contact with me, so that's great customer service. I'll have to unscrew the top stage om Friday to see what's going on.
  8. Whenever I lock the BNC cable into the HD-SDI on the sled, the signal disappears. But if I insert the BNC cable and turn it just before it lock in place, the signal is there. Anybody know what this means? I suspect a faulty wiring, but weird that the signal is there just before locking.
  9. Seems pointless to speculate on something that hasn't been released yet onto the commercial market. We have seen a few shots of the MOVI in action, and it needs two to operate it last I read. So will it be cheaper than having one person operate a Steadicam? Still don't know how they'll be able to run with a fully loader Alexa or a F65 for that matter.
  10. http://www.modular51.com/index.php?main_page=index&main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=20 I have two of these babies. Like an American Express. Never leave home without it. Except those days I'm not working! :-)
  11. I seond that Jens. Sophie, what the hell are you talking about?
  12. Does this mean your advice as well? Tommy, I'm ignoring your post. :-)
  13. Hello Mike, welcome. I would do as Evrim suggest. Attend a workshop. It's a different ball game using a vest and arm, even though the object of both items is to stabilize the camera. A pilot will cost you about $4k, not included stand, sandbag, batteries, cables etc. So spending some money on a course is a good thing before splashing out that kind of cash. Good luck
  14. Hi Tom, Welcome to the forum. Buying your first rig is a really big deal. A lot of people will say buy PRO, Other Tiffen, some Mk-v and so on. The problem is that there is a lot of BS going back and forth from all types of owners with all types of gear. So being able to come to an understanding about what gear to invest in, can be difficult. But in short, listen to Afton on this thread. Ignore all the others. Try it out. I wish I had been more patient with my first investment, not that I regret it, but I would most likely done it differently. The problem is, when you're starting out, you don't know shit. As I did. So don't rush it. You'll be with your first rig for a few years probably. Good luck on your investment.
  15. Hi Kiel, first, you own a Flyer, with this in mind I suspect you're on a budget, so buying a real serious FF like a Preston or C-motion is not likely. Buying a BFD is most likely your best choice. But it will set you back a few thousand. If this is not a realistic option for you, rentals are the way to go. It will give you a disadvantage when it comes to jobs with a short time limit on them. If they call you on a Monday and want you for Wednesday, things can be a bit stressful. I would not be afraid to say you have a rental FF. The focus puller and DP will see your rig, and know you don't have the most expensive rig in town anyways. So they'll know you're on a budget. Ask the production if they have a wireless FF themselves. If they don't, you say you need an hour to answer them. Just say you have to make sure you're available that day. In this hour call rental houses and other ops and see if you can get a FF for rent. Then charge the production company for the FF alongside your steadicam services. I do this all the time. I used to own a Bartech, but the focus pullers in my market wanted a Preston or a C-motion or similar. So I sold it. I will not be buying a FF in the near future, as my market isn't big enough to justify investing $12k + in a FF. (About half my income is Steadicam, rest as operator or DP) So I use either a C-motion rental or a Preston rental. I know I show up on set with a kick ass system and the focus puller is happy. If you do go for a rental, perhaps you should invest some money on power cables for powering the FF motor. Fly safe and good luck! LE
  16. Thanks Rob, I've got all my items from them now. Not sure if I'll order anything else from them in the future.
  17. Hi Rob, I ordered through Armato's in N.Y. They used a BON rep when they processed my order. Armatos was equally frustrated about the lack of info. Don't know if the problems had anything to do with the rep though. Seemed like most of the problems was located in South-Korea. But as I said, their customer service sucks big time. LE
  18. I've used my BON for a couple of weeks now. It's a good monitor, specially when you think about the price tag. It costs under half of the Cinetronic. Not trying to start a thread about BON vs Cinetronic, BON would loose, but not everybody wants to spend $ 5K+ on a monitor on their rig. There's no AR coating though. So for the guys who's gotten used to using monitors with AR coating, BON might not be their cup of tea. I on the other hand, upgraded to the BON from Tiffen 7" 700nit monitor, so I'm pleased so far. The viewing is good. Even w/o the coating, the outdoor use is good. Yes, the sky will reflect onto the screen, but you just need to tell your eyes to focus on the screen, not the sky. Works for me. When you use the bright outdoor function the screen is remarkably bright. Fantastic. All the usual extras that you're used to having on a HD-SDI monitor is there. Waveform, vectorscope, false color etc. My biggest issue is this; their customer service sucks. Lack of info after ordering has been a pain. Also a lot of messages saying it would come soon, then a new message saying it will be delayed. This happened several times. Had to really push hard with numerous international calls telling them it was important the monitor arrived before a specific date. Don't know if I caught them in a really bad time, or they think that South-Korea it their primary market, but it was really frustrating. I really did regret not ordering the Ikan (which is 100% same specs, just about 450 grams lighter) directly from B&H, would have the monitor within 3 business days, and save $200 and a lot of stress. . According to Rob Vuona BON also makes the Ikan, so they should be identical. LE
  19. Hi Holger, welcome to the forum. I think you've got a decent reel. There are a few issues. The biggest I think is your lack of controlling your horizontal lines. In clip two, this becomes very noticeable. But I'm guessing you know this and are training to avoid it. There are a couple of shots with way too much headroom for my taste, but in time this will become better. I liked the last clips in the forest. Slow moves with not a lot of unwanted movement. Good job. I think you also got good pacing, just clean up those lines in the future. :) PS! In the first clip in the airport, you've got some movement there from your top-stage. Either something was loose or it's a bad camera plate. Fly safe! LE
  20. Jerry, meant no disrespect towards Ana here. Simply saying that users on this forum might not have any knowledge on this rig. So only adviced her that posting her question on a different forum. That's all. What's next? Maybe we should create a DIY stabilizers inside this forum? Perhaps you're correct Jerry. If you are, then you have my deepest apologies. BTW we never said "real stabilizers" in the way you wrote it. We only said pro rigs. I don't agree with you that that was the tone in this topic.
  21. Mark, I understand that you feel that we're not being welcome here towards Ana. I disagree. Eric only said that this was a forum for professional rigs. Hence, few or none here would know this rig. I did a fast google search and found several other forums were this rig is discussed. Reduser, dvxforum etc. If every rig in the world were discussed here, this forum would really lose its purpose.
  22. Ana, as Eric said, this forum is for operators with high-end rigs. I doubt anyone here have any experience with your equipment. Please do a google search on your rig, and you'll get several hits. Ask a similar question on those forums. Or you can just contact Laing directly or the place you purchased the rig. Good luck. LE
  23. Good thing I've been a hopeless gamer all my life. From the ZX Spectrum to Commodore 64, Amiga 500 (The King), Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360, PS3 and soon the PS4. Bring it on! Commander Shepard out!
  24. Chris, just because some of us don't bow down and chant hallelujah at first sight when new tech is shown, don't necessarily mean we resent it. I do remember when the likes of 5D came along, and everybody said "ohh...game changer". Not so. 5D's have gotten a place in the industry. But game changer, hardly. I'm not saying this about this unit, after all, I haven't tried it yet. It basically needs to be on set for a while to see how it works out in the really real world. Not just at NAB. LE
