Hi Christopher! I’ve thought about this a many times! I’ve gone back and forth between lots of small cases to a few big cases with everything in and back again. Now it’s a combo of everything. Cases too big and everything stashed in it, your ACs will not appreciate the weight finding a spot on the truck for it, too small and individual items and now you risk leaving the one accessory you really need at the storage and now your in trouble. It goes without saying that every case and pouch should be identified with what’s in it or have distinctive markings, very easy to communicate with your AC if you say go in the Pelican that says Tools & Aks rather than in the small black Pelican. You will find your best setup over time but here’s my approach. 1) Pelican i2950 Sled Case , sled mostly assembled (just need the monitor slid into the monitor bracket and cables connected), cables I use everyday are in one labeled pouch, back up cables in another labeled pouch. Docking bracket, regular camera plate, battery eliminator plate. 2) Nanuk 963 - Arm Case, Arm and arm posts, weather cover (ACs usually take that out and with their other weather kit) I found a spot for my hard mount in there, and a small ditty bag that has stuff I want my AC to have near by (some tools, screwdriver, allen keys, cables, counterweights, stills camera, emergency skittles and jelly beans when your dolly grip needs something sweet, extra BNCs, screws, Cinelocks, bits that save the day) 3) Pelican 1510 - Batteries Case with charger 4) Vest Bag (Has spare t-shirt, knee pads, cold weather stuff, shoes) 5) Steadicam Stand and Moses Pole (Tripod case) 6) Cart 7) Gyro case (Can’t remember model) 8 ) Pelican 1510 - Conventional operating ask case. On-board monitor, cables and arms, Handheld handles 9) Pelican 1510 - Tools and repairs case (Rarely needed, ACs have most tools) 10) Nanuk 965 - Other Accessories (long plate, funky brackets, more spares, stuff you can’t give away cause you might need it once in 10 years to hold a plant up in your house) This case I usually only open in pre, in camera tests, take what i need in another case and stash thill wrap. 11) Pelican 1510 - Headsets and Aks 12) Pelican 1510 - FIZ stuff. (gathering dust and not making any money, really just spare) 13) I forget the rest… Head, tripod, etc… I do have a specific case for my CAMWOK. Basically if you’re looking to make it faster from your car to being ready to shoot, I would prep as much as I can and take the top 5 or 6 items… That’s all you actually need, on the day to day. Especially, when day playing and shooting many different projects in the week. Once you get on longer term stuff then you can stash everything on the truck and i find it easier to have many smaller specific cases for accessories, or work with your ACs and see what they want to have on the shelves or not. They also like to take your stuff and put it in their workflow, so it’s a good idea to ID all your stuff too, stickers, coloured tape, etc. You’ll find your flow. You know what you need! Cheers,

Airline media rate - ID solution
Benoit C. Gauthier replied to Charles Papert's topic in Cases/Carts/Stands and Transport
Soooooo I realise this is a couple of years late on this particular post… but are media rates still a thing now that airlines are trying to squeeze every $ they can out of us? If yes, do you still do the special IDs? Do you avoid checking in online and do it all at the check in counter at the airport what’s the go? Is there a maximum number of cases? Is it better to do a small number of cases at maximum weight capacity or more smaller that aren’t overweight. Or just ship it all with DHL and hope it gets there before you!? Cheers, Benoit -
And don’t get me wrong either. I do think the CineLive is a great rig, flies well. does everything the way it should, and there was a great deal on them new recently I wonder if it’s still on. Pro has great service too and all that. Simply suggesting you get your hands on one before you spend the cash. You’ll end up spending the cash anyways!

Hi Noah, Not trying to muddy the waters of your choice here, but my experience has been quite good with the M2 actually. Maybe I’m not rough enough with my gear, but the build quality seems plenty for me. I’ve put really big cameras and lenses (Venice and anamorphic zoom, and 435 with Cookes), so weight capacity wasn’t an issue. I have the 1.75” Post and the bigger post feels great when operating low mode away from the gimbal sleeve. I had a 1.58” and 1.5” post before. Tiffen service was always great with me and the same at Kingsway, reseller in Canada. And everything really. Luckily being in NYC you have the opportunity to get both sleds in your hands and loaded up with a proper camera and actually compare them one to one. Balance them yourself, see how you feel manipulating them. The clamps, the stage, the locking systems, the latches, the monitor brackets, the cabling, the battery brackets & configurations. It will come down to how you feel with them and your friends’ tips on the day you try the rigs out. The reality is that at that level they are all excellent rigs. I really thinks its better to try them out, just likes vests and arms. Really the top stuff is all top notch. Sure if you end up Choosing a Tiffen gimbal, watch Tom Will’s video on how to clean a gimbal bearing and lubricate properly, and do it right away. But apart from that…

Shape full play gold mount L ion batteries
Benoit C. Gauthier replied to Tenzin Lhalungpa's topic in Batteries/Power
Hello, Yes I’ve used them, they’re fine. Like most budget friendly batteries they work. Nothing fancy. They didn’t charge on my AB Charger. But I know some people modified their AB chargers so it worked. Don’t exactly know what they did but it certainly voided warranties. The shape charger is also fine, fast enough but fan is pretty loud. Cheers, -

Arri BUD-1 Plate TREPIDATION
Benoit C. Gauthier replied to Ariel Schvartzman's topic in General Discussion
I see, I haven’t experienced that issue personally. I will try it next time I’m at the studio. I would’ve thought the play would have been on the other side, on the “lock” side, as the side you show on the video should have mostly complete contact. I suppose one could try to fit a small wedge at the back between the plate and the BUD-1, to essentially lift the BUD-1 dovetail against the sliding plate. Maybe even supporting the battery. I tried some pretty heavy lenses, couple of zooms with the A35 and didn’t find any issues running around. We did brace everything pretty tight, the lens, and plates and all. I’m sorry I can’t help! -
Arri BUD-1 Plate TREPIDATION
Benoit C. Gauthier replied to Ariel Schvartzman's topic in General Discussion
Hi Ariel, I am not 100% sure I understand your question, but the best plate around is certainly APEX’s. Lightweight and super solid. https://apexcinemagear.com/products/arri-35-universal-stabilizer-plate Always been super solid, no vibrations and no issues. Since I got that plate, I like the BUD-1 System, very low profile and easy to use. It gets the camera so close to the top stage! I would like the locking area to be larger, and the safety release to be on the same side as the lever, but it’s still really good, didn’t get any slippage. Gunk sometimes builds up in the safety release but easy to clean. -

Hi Michael, I don't know if Jae from TV-Logic checks the forum but he can confirm what I'm about to say. I own a Mk1 F-7H that I use on my studio builds, I love it. As far as I understand the screen and the outer casing/heat sink is the same on the Mk2. I used the Mk1 in the heat of summer outdoors without any problems but it did get super hot, almost as much as the Teradek Tx and RX. The DP of the show I'm on now has a Mk2 and he said he had the same experience. Getting that hot can't be good over time but the screen is so damn good. I also have a 703 and I have to say I like the TVLogic colours and contrast better. But the 703 is easier to use. Cheers,

Hi Loren, There are so many different types of snow, and different levels of cold that I feel it's more a question of having many options in the winter equipment duffle bag! Most important is to stay dry in my opinion I have a pair of Salomon Winter Trail running shoes, with gore-tex waterproof. https://www.salomon.com/en-ca/shop/product/supercross-winter-climasalomon-waterproof-lg5603.html#color=59300 I also have Merrel Tactical boots, also waterproof.https://www.merrell.com/CA/en_CA/moab-2-8-inch-tactical-waterproof-boot/29991U.html?dwvar_29991U_color=J15845#cgid=merrell-tactical&start=1 And a couple of different types of slip on crampons. From small crampons to fairly aggressive. In big snow, that needs any more than this, invest in your grips (Bribe them with whatever they want). They will make your operating safer and easier by building you a heated floor so you can keep operating in your Hi-Top Converse. But seriously, be safe, watch out for ice, walk the shot a bunch of times and watch the way the snow/ice evolves over time after you and your whole team walks over your tracks and change the state of the ground your flying over. A slip up happens so fast, just fly safe! Hope this makes sense and helps. Ben

Good day everyone, I'm an operator based in Montreal. My partner and our daughter are both Australian, and after being "stuck" in Canada during the pandemic, we're planning a long-ish trip back down under to visit family and live for a year or two. Escaping the minus 30 deg winters! I'm looking to get in touch with Australian based operators for a chat regarding the work opportunities in Australia. Where to go? Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide? Is it worth getting a Family Visa on my own and being available for work, or is there help for other entertainment based work visas through a union? Is there a IATSE Local for Australia? With Marvel setting up shop in Sydney, are there more opportunities for operating? And others similar question!! I do promise to whoever offers their time and help, that I will visit you with a nice bottle of whisky or a can of maple syrup or both whenever we land in Australia! Reply via private message and I'll send you an e-mail address or we can organize a FaceTime or whatever. Thanks for your time! Ben
