  1. define Chuffed? Big ups to all the Steadicam Guys at the Olympics, NBC and World feed
  2. I have to agree with Eric along with some of the others, asking the union is not going to get us anywhere. Policing ourselves in our own genre seems to be the most efficient way . I recently turned down two separate gigs that were three weeks each because of rate and budget issues. One of them helped out a fellow operator and the other still perpetuated the poor rate due to someone else taking it and agreeing to the rate. It happens in all genres and the only thing we have is what we think is right and what we are worth. Don't sell yourself short, your worth the rate !
  3. Hey there Guys, A friend of mine is DP ing a movie in Prague, He is an awarded SOC member and called me this morning asking if I knew any operators in Europe, specifically in Prague but I guess any place close would do. Apparently the operator the production company booked bailed out. They are shooting on his Arri Alexa Friday Aug 3,4,5, 2012. His contact info is: Petre Cikhart +1 917 673 5506 Pcikhart@earthlink.net Thanks for any consideration You can email me or just hit him up directly RobVski@aol.com
  4. Good Job guys . . . . . Love the dual steadicam stuff . . . . . but y'all are lucky to have focus pullers, we have to do focus and zoom.
  5. Yes Alex, The Transvideo actually has multiple tally options and one of them is the 4 corners around the frame line that light up when your camera is cued. I have to have a tally for a majority of my shoots and I have made my own and used the internal tally and the transvideo is actually quite awesome. The system I helped design with Steadicam not only cues your transvideo monitor but also illuminates a small Red LED that can be attached to the lens hood or to a prompter to help cue talent.
  6. What wireless system are you using for live broadcasting?
  7. Sweet Jesus, welcome back, from the injured back, does this have anything to do with the new Faucet vest? Ok . . . . so your back which is awesome =) but, back to what?, what genre are you doing or are you just saying yes ? can I call you to fill in on live TV stuff? and lastly, OK i'll ask what everyone else is wondering, What is the Tiffen/Steadicam teacher, mentor, guru, friend and all around good karma guy going to be flying? Sled? Arm? Vest? :P Love Ya Man, mean it!
  8. As far as travel with gear goes, I do 24 countries a year with my gear Knock on wood , to date , 10 times around the world with no issues or equipment loss Mark is correct, media rates almost always apply, southwest is also great about their rates, compared to international rates, the domestic $25, $50,$100 amounts are so inexpensive it's rediculous. Which brings me to my next point...... There should never be an issue with the amount to travel your gear especially having to try to save $50 because your trying to do a turtle stand in a carry on. Bill it to production like Robert stated. Oh wait, your traveling yourself and working as a "local" ,now you have to absorb these costs personally. So, Tony, you think this is ok, how would you feel if someone flew in to your town and took a gig that you were up for because they decided to "be a local". If production wants you on a project , great, go, travel , shoot, do the job but you should be worth it enough for them to fly you there and pay for your gear to be flown in. Let me guess, they didn't pay you for travel, your on a flat rate, you get no per diem, and you have to put yourself up or crash on a couch or share a room. No offense, but this is not the way to make your mark and get a gig. Sorry this particular issue rubs me the wrong way I have lots of friends that live in New Orleans and I'm sure they wouldn't be too excited about you showing up and working as a local as would many others in all the other markets. I know there are exceptions to the rule and I may very well be off the mark with you and your situation and if so I am sorry to be pointing this at you and getting off the original topic. My $.02
  9. Demeritt, You better not have said yes to what I turned down ? Lol FYI: it was $72.72 hr. $800 for 10 hrs
  10. Michael if it makes you feel any better, I just turned down two weeks because the rate is too low
  11. I have to chime in . . . . I have turned down countless jobs, as have many of you because they were just crazy unrealistic about using a steadicam, we have all heard the stories. If they can't afford the tool for the job don't give it to them for less, let them use a different tool they can afford. Michael, sorry for that rate quote my friend, good on ya for saying no . . . . . .sometimes you have to be willing to walk away to get their attention. As for that rate, for the love of all things Holy, all y'all don't say yes to this !!! That rate is below my assistants rate. Michael, just a thought, if your renegotiations does not work out kindly decline and offer up 5 or 6 other guys as recommendations. Let them call us and we will all quote them double of what they are asking and then we will recommend and so on and so on. Then hopefully they will realize they were so freakin far off and you are worth soooo much more. As far as the open discussion about rate on a public forum, NO ! Open discussion in private, on the phone, in person absolutely! Also, Alec hit the nail on the head Ok My Two Cents . . . . . .
  12. " Television production (especially in LA) the PRO Standard is what you see most of." All good points Eric accept in the Live TV world, there are no Pro or Sachtler Sleds and all Tiffen and XCS. Just to clarify But it certainly looks like I am getting two Grey Springs to round out my collection and that should allow me to only fly two canisters for most of my work, good call Eric telling me to wait for the new news coming out of Pro
  13. Ya, Hugo . . . . . .Glad to see you firing up again, looking forward to the future =)
  14. Huh, Jeff why you selling ? Your the king of 3-D
  15. Congrats guys, Enjoy the honeymoon !!! Hopefully everyday after is like the honeymoon!
  16. Great last name, any relation? Mike were are you located?
  17. Oh and for the zoom control you can get a G-Zoom with Eric's new adapter box that allows it to work with the Stanton Focus motors so you don't necessarily have to buy a Bartech
  18. Yes the EFP will hold an Alexa. Change out the breaker from a 5 amp to a 10 amp and add a second battery holder to use 24v and it's perfect. Or just fly the Alexa with a battery on the back. It's been my experience that it doesn't like 12v as much as 24v
  19. Speak for yourself Jess, Broadcast gigs are 1=1 every day worked for us is a rental, only time we give a weekly discount is on a multi month gig. Just my two cents
  20. Go with the 4.3". But buy two or three, it will break Modify the cable to plug into your rig Tiffen has a great return monitor bracket that adjust to different monitor rods , see the Phantom•V As far as the return monitor go with the 7" analog again modify the cables to fit your rig and then make a mounting bracket to attach to the top handle of the camera allowing the monitor to sit just above the lens Hope that helps
  21. Hi Daniel, Price points are on the Tiffen Steadicam web site Its not a cost of the mods its a whole new sled
  22. • Yes it was modified from the original Phantom • I use the Pro Arm and pro vest, waiting for a proptotype from Chris for the Exoskelatal to field test it If you have your own Link system, (congrats) then you should really have a slick set up like AVS has here in the states with the Sony P-1, Integrated return video as well.
