    EFP Vest

Hey Guys, I seem to be stuck . . . . I was making headway finding Buckles to upgrade my EFP vest but apparently the ones I found didn't work. The ski boot technology is just too clunky and catches on cables, so any suggestions would be welcomed. Call me crazy, But as George Paddock said to me while discussing this over at his shop while looking at my vest, "If it fits you well, and it's comfortable don't change it until it fails . . . . and it will!" . . .Thanks George . . .LOL . . . So if anyone has some info on some sleak low profile buckles, I'm all ears ? Thanks
  2. --------------------------------- Looks like you got the best solution for now. Thats definitely is the best position for them, In my opinion. Good Luck --------------------------------- Looks like you got the best solution for now. Thats definitely is the best position for them, In my opinion. Good Luck ---------------- One more Idea, the two screws that attach the Miranda to the camera back on the top back of the camera, you could use those two screw holes and dual screw a mounting plate to them and then attach the audio recievers to it hanging off the back of the camera. I don't know how long you have to have this configuration or if it's even worth you doing these mods, but hey there's always future use. . . .LOL . . . All the best
  3. Hey guys, I'm getting an error message trying to upload a 72x72 pict. "The file you requested to upload was greater than the limit the administrator has set for your group." and I can't upload picts to posting iether . . . .Help? Thanks Rob
  4. ------------------ Sorry that didn't work out for you Philip, I guess your stuck with it on top for now. Does the camera your using have the screw holes next to the gold mount where you would normally put the Anton Batteries. I made an angle bracket that screwed into those holes which would allow it to mount behind the Miranda. All the best Fly Safe
  5. --------------------------------------- The op may have been Jeff Zachery at the superbowl, but not sure
  6. -------------------------------- Or Collin, you can buy one . . . .LOL . . . . as Mark stated the Klassen one works pretty awesome . . . . Hope your shoot is going well . . .don't let those people take advantage of you !!! safety first!! Peace Out Rob
  7. ---------------------- Hey Phillip, I have mounted it in all different kinds of configurations, But your best bet is to shorten up all those cables you have hanging everywhere and being that you are using the Miranda you can Industrial Velcro it under the Miranda on the back of the camera and then Tape it or strap it around the Miranda for stability. I have also made angle brackets to screw on to where the side audio usually mounts that way you can mount behind the Miranda but you need to put the angle adapters on your Miranda Cables. I prefer to keep everything center as oppossed to off to the side like most Audio set ups are. Good luck, hope this helps Peace Out Rob
  8. Thanks Jason, That monitor is basically the Marshall, with a tiffen Logo and some added extras. Still not good enough outside. But thanks for the input . . . .you guys rock! For now I think I'm going with the down converter, until the ultimate, ultrabright, 7" 1200 Nit, HD/SDI/Composite monitor is unveiled. who knows maybe someone at NAB will debut it. Hopefully anyone from Boland will read this . . .LOL . . . . see ya in Vegas . . . . Peace Out Rob Vuona 310-993-0667
  9. Jason and Jerry, Thanks for the insight, The 8.4 " Monitor from tiffen does sound great it's just too big for the stuff that I shoot, And Jason do let us know how that 7" monitor performes outside. My current monitor is 1000-1200 Nits and it rocks outside, but it's just not HD. No one has given me an opinion yet weather I should pony up the cash for a new monitor that doesn't really exist yet, or buy the downconverter. Jerry what would you do? Or Afton or any of you mentors out there . . .LOL . . . . Thanks for the input guys, Oh and Chris Wilson, I have heard the stories of your glorious run ins with the vari lights . . .LOL . . . That monitor is too big for our stuff huh? I'll try to drop by Kimmel Peace Out Rob
  10. ---------------- Thanks Jerry, Sounds like a great monitor, especially the PIP function but it's 8.4 Inches, so does the 7" Monitor exist and should I get the monitor or a downconverter? Do I really need a $9000 Monitor? Peace Out Rob
  11. Tiffen has one -------------------- Thanks Eric, but Tiffens is 8.4 inches, comes on the ultra ;-( peace out Rob
  12. Hey guys, I'm using a Ultrabright Transvideo 6.5" SD monitor, which is awesome inside and outside, but with the advent of doing more and more HD I would like to get an equivelent HD/SDI/SD monitor. I know Boland is claiming to have one in the works and Mike over there swears he's still working on it so, until then, what to use? OR . . . .Should I just save the cash and purchase an AJA downconverter and stick to my Transvideo. Does the elusive 7" Daybright HD/SDI/Composite Monitor exist ? Thanks Rob Vuona
  13. ---------------------------------- Hey Eric, I pretty sure Terry West has them, he 's at (310)-374-5711 / techrat@earthlink.net If he doesn't he'll know where to get them for you All the best Peace Out Rob Vuona 310-993-0667
  14. ---------------------------- Hey Collin, I was on location in the middle of no where and needed a vehicle mount for a pick-up truckand a gator, so I made one out of speed rail and connected the socket block from my vest to it. Call me I can ship it to you, or you can call Theresa over at Eastwood Productions and they have a Garfield mount that you can rent. 818-704-7873 Peace Out Rob 310-993-0667
  15. ------------------- That sucks . . . ., But just for the record or off the record, my lovely computer has created some of the best employer letterheads stating the details of my employment with them, which always gets me out of the $50 charge and knocks it down to $25. As for the international flights, yikes, thats messed up I guess I'll have to address that situation with the production company. . . . Thank for the info peace out Rob
  16. --------------------------- Hey Brandon, AB are AB's try to find the best deal online, I have used Markertek and B&H on sale days, Used usually isn't the way to go with batteries. Maybe some of the other studs on the forum will have some better connections and if so, I will be needing some more by this time next year as well . . . . lol . . . . Congrads on the switchover peace out Rob
  17. ---------------------- Hey Phillip, It may just be a preference but all the cabled live TV Steadi guys I know do the stanton zoom/focus control and the cable for that goes from the gimble straight up to the middle of your plate, under the shoulder rest of the camera, then secure it there and connect it to the camera. As for the small BNC, take it from the back of the camera to the vest and barrel it on the back of your vest, but as Afton pointed out be careful taking the vest off or getting those small cables caught on anything the end pull out very easily. I may have some photo's if needed, and I have some really bad nightmare photo's of what I had to fly dealing with the F-900 this past winter, but I just am not sure how to post pictures . . . LOL . . . .I'm such a dumb ass . . .LOL . . . . Afton how did you do that? All the best You can call anytime if needed Peace Out Rob 310-993-0667
  18. ----------------- Hey Philip, Ya we all hate the F-900 Lbs is what I call it. Your question is valid but not specific, so if I understand the dilema you are trying to run a cable to the producers monitor from the camera. If this is the case attach the long main BNC cable to the back of the vest and barrel it with one of your tiny Steadicam cables and secure it to your shoulde, left or right whichever feels better for your operating style, and then plug into test ot or video out on the back or side of the camera. The cables are always going to tweek the rig slightly but you can balence on the fly to accomodate the move. Hope that helps if that is what you were talking about . . . lol . . . . Peace Out Rob Vuona 310-993-0667
  19. ------------------------------------------------ Hey stud, Quick fix, Get scrap piece of steal or aluminum about 12-15 lbs. Drill it out to screw onto you plate and pick up a quick release plate for the camera and bingo you have an adapter to work with your rig. Unfortunately we are expected to do more and more of these gigs with these cameras so I have mine on standby. Good luck peace out Rob Vuona 310-993-0667
  20. ------------------------------- Brad, As Chris Wilson Stated, life in the Live-TV/Multicamera-cabled to your vest world is all good, we all know that if you get the call you get the rate and as a matter of fact I am so confidant in my fellow multicamera steadi ops that I know that they are all going to quote the exact same rate union or non-union. We all talk and know that we can back each other up and fight for the rate that we sweat for. If the production company or producers are willing to accept someone for a sub par rate they are going to get sub par results and you want no part of them anyway. That being said, if there is someone you know taking rates for sub par, give then a friendly call and educate them how not to shoot themselves in the foot and detract from all of our hard work. And on a side note: Why don't we have representation through the union separate from camera? Not that any minimum rate that they would negotiate would be anywhere close to what is expected from us anyhow ! And one more thing that hasn't been discussed, the rental rate . . . . . What should the difference be between different rigs? If someone has $100,000 in rig a gear and another has $30,000 should the rate be the same just because the job is the same? Peace Out Rob
  21. ---------------------------- Congrads on the new purchase . . . . . Try the Stanton Zoom and focus controler 602-493-9505 Made for specific Gimbals Good Luck Peace Out Rob
  22. ------------------------------------------ Call Tiffen and talk to Kyle he'll hook you up with that monitor, otherwise if your planning on being outside alot with your rig Boland is claiming to be making a 6.5" HD/SDI/Analog Daybright Monitor 1000 or more Nits but to Date it has not been released. I am currently using the Transvideo Ultrabright 1000 nits and I spent 3 Months shooting outdoors in Hawaii and never used a sun shield it worked awesome. I have some other options for you as well, just email me directly at Robvski@aol.com Peace Out Rob
  23. Great Topic, but not specific . . . .By this I mean all of you are doing such incredible productions such as "Brokback Mountain" . . .etc . . . which by the way had incredible steadicam . . . !!! But did your question regarding the directors include all of us Multicam Live TV Steadicam Operators who have to have a cable attached. Because if you are including us then there is a whole new line of recomendations . . .LOL . . . Cool topic Thanks Peace Out Rob
  24. BTW,how do you like my Nexuscase?! ======================================================= Hey that case is awesome, are they available for customization here in the US. ? RobVski@aol.com 310-993-0667
  25. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ya what's up with their web site and who post this stuff anyway, Do they randomly choose shows to post and randomly decide to throw in Steadicam as a title. Updating anything including awards is next to impossible, is there anyone who can tudor on the use of this stupid web site that our industry has decided to adopt as a standard.
