  1. So here's where I'm at after using both the 6" and 8" Transvideo monitors extensively and comparing them side by side with my Boland. In my opinion, the 6" is too small, and the 8" isn't bright enough. I don't use a level (maybe this is why my horizon sucks) but I don't feel I need it over viewability in daylight. If I had to make the purchase again, I'd buy another Boland. If the Boland was the same price as the Transvideo, I'd get a used Cinetronic gen2. If all of them were the same price, I'd buy the Boland and live without a level, or maybe get the Tiffen level. The more I use this monitor, the more I hate using other ones. I had trouble the other day seeing a PRO Gen3 monitor where I know I would have been able to view my Boland. This is my opinion, I know a lot of happy transvideo users and the features on those monitors are great. I find myself outdoors a lot and the number one thing for me in a monitor is being able to see it.. And the Boland is the most daylight viewable LCD available. **I have not tried the 7" TV Logic high bright monitor.
  2. BTS of the pitch film.. Not sure I see a reason the camera needed to go from low to high mode during this shot. It couldn't have all been shot on a traditional steadicam?
  3. Quick question, will it output both hdmi and sdi at the same time when taking an sdi signal? Could you pm me with some numbers for the group order? I'm interested if the price is right! There's also a battery plate option listed on the site (Sony, V, Gold Mount), what is the battery plate for? Still can't decipher looking at the photos or reading the description.
  4. The Boland has a far better screen.. I wish I compared them side by side the other week, I had a DP7 HB with me. I'm not sure if I like the menu's any better on the Boland vs the DP7, but I would chose the Boland again over the SmallHD any day.
  5. I strongly suggest you take a look at the Boland BVB07, Transvideo x-sbl 6", Cinetronic gen 2, and the TB6 in person. You really need to see which monitor you like by actually looking trying them out. I've gotten the chance to look at these four monitors, and I've realized I have different preferences than other people, and that there is no such things as a perfect monitor.
  6. Curious question, does the lower j box not have a BNC port..?
  7. Back again with a few solid days of operating in direct sunlight. My review is biased because my preferences are specific and I'm sure they are different than yours. Firstly I should mention Gary Litwin's awesome costumer service, and how well priced this monitor is. Customer service from Boland has been great. The price of this monitor is incredible at under $2500. Perhaps more important than customer service is the functionality of the monitor, and this monitor functions exceptionally. The Boland BVB07 is viewable at all angles in direct sunlight. Enough said, viewability is almost priceless. Here are a few cons. I am more than happy to live with them, because as I stated above I can see the monitor from any viewing angle, in any situation. These are also fixes that can be implemented in future models The build of the monitor is less than desirable. The monitor is too light at under 2 pounds. The AB plate on the back is off center. I don't mount batteries back there often, maybe for some ballast when flying a heavier camera up top. However if a battery is mounted, don't expect to achieve dynamic balance. The shell doesn't seem as durable as the CNC machined aluminum on other monitors. If the materials used were heavier, all of the above quirks would not exist. I'd be willing to pay the extra money for this. Here are things that can be fixed with firmware. Still not a big deal to me, but would be nice to have an update for soon. There is no option to shade or black out the areas outside of the frame markers. The custom marker function works fine, but it would be nice to adjust top, bottom, left, and right independently. I'd also like the option to move the center crosshair around. The digital level is completely useless. I would gladly pay the extra money to have a useable level on this monitor. Like Alan mentioned, maybe make it compatible with Tiffen's digital level unit? The Boland lacks custom zoom/aspect ratio. When you take composite video from a camcorder or DSLR you will not be able to fill the entire display with the proper aspect ratio. Either leave it smaller or look at a stretched image. The video signal will not pass through. This monitor will cross convert from SDI - HDMI and the other way, but it will not loop through from SDI to SDI or HDMI to HDMI. No anamorphic desqueeze. Enough with the cons, this monitor does have a lot of great functions. It does everything you'd want it to, plus more. All the standard features are there. Image flip, zoom, peaking, false color, scopes, ect.. There are a lot of things I cannot cover with my review. I can't speak for the tally signal or scopes, I don't use them. While this isn't a perfect monitor, I can see it in midday desert locations and that's enough for me. I am more than happy with my purchase and I would make the purchase again if I had to. I likely will when I decide to invest in a director's monitor. Go get yourself a Boland BVB07, at under $2500 it is well worth the investment. This is my favorite monitor on the market and I've used quite a few. -Chris Loh
  8. Mike, I don't suppose you're the one looking at buying my friend Quaid's full Master Series set up with transmitter and focus are you..? Anyways, feel free to shoot me a text, I'd be happy to show you my rig and answer as many questions as I can.. I'm still very new, maybe you could teach me a thing or two! For starters, you read that a PRO arm, Atlas or Titan, cannot be mounted to a back mount vest. I remember the post vaguely. PRO arms can.. I know for a fact, Peter Robertson uses a PRO with WK vest, along with many other operators. You may have also read that Chris Harrhoff uses the first PRO arm with serial number 001. He used it for the first time shooting Saving Private Ryan. Different sled manufactures use different size posts. When I use a master arm with my PRO sled, I need a different post.. nice thing to have in my kit. There are a lot of different circumstances that come into play with weight. Too many variables to answer in one post. I prefer front mount, that's why I chose the PRO vest. Each arm is tuned differently. Each rides and floats differently. Tiffen arms should float about 5 degrees upwards, PRO arms should float about 5 degrees downwards. Call any of the guys at Tiffen, they're all great. I can give you Rey Reyes' contact if you need it. He's easy to reach.
  9. You're selling both the anton bauer transmitter and reciever for $500 with shipping..? Message me.. I'm interested.
  10. Would you be willing to sell the Betz tools top stage with rails and dovetail plate along with the PRO VZ gimbal grip separate?
  11. The deal of the century happens about once a week..
  12. On a job today with my new boland monitor! Will report back end of this month once I've used it a bit.
  13. I'd be interested in just one motor as well.. If Victor doesn't buy one.
  14. I have 3 dead Hytron 50s, and one Dionic 90 that has little life left. PM me if you're interested in them.
  15. Nacho, I have one.. Messaging you.
  16. I'd keep the hyperdeck shuffle next to the battery in the back like victor said.. Mounting the battery vertical still keeps the weight spread long. Definitely get that lens closer to the gimbal, don't worry if the chip is in front of the center post.
  17. If you decide to get a better arm/vest, I'm selling my flyer arm and vest. But like most, I'd recommend just getting the pilot vest and arm.
  18. Tiffen low mode bracket. Fits pilot, zephyr, scout, and flyer. Located in Los Angeles Make an offer
  19. Wish there was a way I could try this out first.. You won't be on the west coast any time soon will you?
  20. Give that number a ring tomorrow, but delete it from a public forum so he doesn't get a ton of spam calls. To my knowledge a Luna upgrade is 1000, which will increase the weight range, and I hear does wonders to the performance. (Can't speak from experience though, I love my 3A just how it is)
  21. PRO Monitor Arm for sale Make an offer: Call/Text/Email
