  1. That's a cracking bit of trivia Charles. Thanks for the original video. It all makes scene now........
  2. Steadicam operator Dom Jackson and RF Technician Gary Sims used one Boxx Meridian system to pull off this amazing live shot at BBC TVC. (Starts 30sec in)
  3. Hi Everyone, Thought you might find this interesting..... We are renting the Meridian which is being used with the Sony HDC-P1 and our return video to a lot of live shows in the UK. Because of the zero delay, and as its much lighter then the Sony 1500 its becoming very popular. Directors love it as you can pull off shots like this with no lip sync problems. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IBzkD0W44Sk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The Voice - BBC. 2min continuous Steadicam shot.

  11. I can offer 4-5 frames, but the cost would be around $10,000USD. Would operators be prepared to pay that that type of amount? To date, I believe the cheapest system of the market at 4 frames is around $30,000.
  12. I agree these are all very valid points. There are many systems on the market that have less then 4 frame delay. If you are willing to pay $150,000 you can get below 1 frame now. This all said, ?Gray?s Anatomy? have beed using 2 of our systems for over 6 months now. They also had reservation at first but now would never go back to analogue. It's a good point that this will not ?replace? your current system but be another tool to better show off your work.
  13. Thanks for the feed back guys. I really appreciate it and keep it coming (good or bad). We want ideas on what you guys need and want in a system and I will do my best to incorporate it. Hope to see you all at NAB! Scott Walker scott@boxx.tv +44 7798526766
  14. Now everyone can afford to be wire free as CBS and BBC lead in the OFDM microwave revolution, live-to-air. CBS and BBC are the first networks to use the ground breaking technology of the-boxx microwave link for live-to-air news broadcasts featuring the Rose Bowl Parade and the Oscars The-boxx is an affordable alternative to existing COFDM microwave systems providing a stable and reliable digital video link. KCBS Los Angles has successfully trialled the-boxx roaming cable free for live-to-air broadcasts since December, and will continue using the technology as part of their news broadcasts in the future while BBC Bristol used the boxx to roam around the Wallace and Gromet factory for a 3min live cross. They now have 3 on order. Designed in the UK, the-boxx provides a digital microwave link from single or multi-camera platforms without ghosting, break-up or interference. The-boxx is specifically designed for live to air transmission, portable field monitoring, Steadicam, video-assist and surveillance applications. The-boxx has also been used for video-assist on Emmy winning show ?The Amazing Race(CBS) and Gray's Anatomy (ABC). Please call Scott Walker for more information +44 7798526766.
  15. BBC and CBS are both using the-boxx live to air daily. Please call me for further information. Scott Walker Boxx.tv +44 7798426766.

  17. THE-BOXX is now shipping. We have finalised the new firmware and now you can operate anywhere in the world legally!! The boxx now operates on 2.4Ghz AND 5Ghz. Beware are other digital systems that only use 5Ghz. In most EU counties, 5.2Ghz can only be used indoors. 2.4Ghz can be used anywhere. Please contact me on +44 207 284 1888 for more info. 18. Q. Could I, on your HG version have one omni and one unidirectional antenna to make it runner proof. A. Yes this will work, but it is better to select and have both antennas suited that match the situation. Q. Both of your receivers are diversity based. On long shots would it be a problem cabling up one antenna to the end of the shot and one to the beginning? A. Yes ,we have designed the-boxx to do this. It works really well by putting one antenna inside a house and the other outside. This gets past any metal shielding in the walls. There is a down side though. Each foot of cable you use, adds to a lost of single. If you use a high gain antenna and less then 50 feet of cable, this should work ok. The shorter the cable the better. Also you need to use cable that?s costs about $2.00/foot. (LMR400). You can also use antenna splitters to use more then 2 antennas. Give me a call about this. I get most of this type of thing from http://www.hyperlinktech.com
  19. Thanks for all the questions. Hello all, I have tried to answer all your questios below. Please let me know if you have any others. Q. How about a small microwave close to your head? Is this dangerous? A. YES. Very much so!!. This is the main force that drove me to design a safe microwave system for camera operators. I have been a cameraman for 15 years (with 2 Emmy nominations) and too many times I have been asked to use a 2.4Ghz transmitter on my camera that has an ?export only? sticker. This sticker means that the out power of the unit is totally illegal !! There is a lot of cheap systems being used that have an output power of 3 watts. In the EU the maximum power output at this frequency is .01watt. A 3 watts system is designed to put up a tower or on the side of a building. Having this power right next to your head (in my opinion) is insane. The transmitter in the-boxx uses the same chip set and power output as a Wi-Fi card (like in your laptop) The official FCC recommend is that the antenna should be no less then 20cm away from any person when in operation. If you are still concerned about this, have a think of how close your Wi-Fi card is to your ?crown jewells? when surfing the internet in your lap. We are talking about extremely low levels of microwave emissions with the-boxx system and I don?t believe it to be a concern. Q. Will the 4 frame delay version work as well as the 12 frame delay version ? A. Yes, its very stable too. The thing about digital and QOS (Quality of Service) systems is that you get perfect pictures or nothing at all. Q. What is the delay on a regular radio link (i.e. modulous or marell) I am assuming there will be a slight one... very slight.... maybe in the region of 25ms.... warning... that was a guess A. There is no significant delay on an analogue link. Q. For export, would you be able to build me a 500mW or 1W TX module ? rather than the 50mW I assume your present system is? A. Sorry we can?t do this. The ?boxx RF output can be amplified, but by doing this would make the system NOT FCC or CE approved. Q. will you be making a system at 1.394ghz ? A. Sorry no. Q. Is your regular receiver exactly the same inside as the HG receiver just without the unidirectional antenna and pole mount? Could I, on your HG version have one omni and one unidirectional antenna to make it runner proof. A. We have two levels of minimum standards when testing the circuit boards that are used in the-boxx. The boards that pass the higher level are used in the HG version. The difference is marginal when talking about a monitoring link. The HG is designed for ENG live-to-air uses. Q. Music videos.. my bread and butter A. Unless you can have the director isolated from the fold back, I would recommend sticking to analogue!! Q. the delay thing!! A. Digital system with no delay costs about £50.000, $100,000 or more. If you are interested in this type if system check out http://www.gigawave.co.uk/ http://www.rfcentral.com/ Delay does have advantages, we just have to understand them. The director, ques off real life action. He can then look at the monitor and see the result of the live que. (live) It?s all about re thinking with the technology. Its going to be a hard sell but I will bet anyone here that in a year from now, this systems will be the norm and we will be talking about how we used to do it in ?the old analogue days?. 20. We have a few demo units but they are hard to get off people once they have them. I can get one to you, or if you want to buy a system, we offer a 7 day return policy. Aslo you might be intesting in an email containing FAQs ----------------------- Q. You sell 2 receivers. Is there a huge difference between them (other than the weight difference), and what are the improvements with the "HG" model (Range, signal quality,...) ? Is it worth buying for steadicam use ? A.For monitoring needs, I would recommend the CF range. The HG is designed for 'live to air' ENG needs. Q Can you use 2 receivers simultaneously on the same channel, I mean receiving the same video emitted by one Tx on 2 different Rx (for example to be able to get the image on 2 different screens) ? A.One TX can only talk to one RX. This is because the RX tells the TX that it is missing pockets of data so the TX can re-transmit them. This is what makes the the-boxx so stable. Saying that, there is a really easy way to get around this that works extremely well. If you plug the-boxx receiver into an analogue microwave system, you can re-broadcast the video and have as many receivers as you like. This provides very stable pictures because the analogue transmitter is now not 'moving in space'. Analogue microwave works really well when the TX and RX are stationary. Analogue microwave systems are very cheap, and used in this way, works really well. (they just don't like moving!!) Q. I didn't understand your answer to that question... ("It uses as many receivers as you need to cover the area. It works like a cell phone network. As the camera moves from room to room it jumps onto the closest receiver/repeater .") Do you mean if you have more than one receiver, they may work as a repeater like on a Peer-to-peer network ? This sounds great, so you could increase the range by using more than one receiver... A. What you have described is our new system we will be releasing in a few months. Its a more complex system and takes longer to set up. It's great for more permanent set ups in large areas with lots of walls and floors. Q. - Is there a risk of having interference with Wifi devices, or other wireless FFocus devices for example ? A. No. The-boxx scans and selects a clean channel. If there is no more clean channels on 2.4Ghz (Wi-Fi) then you can simply change to 5.2Ghz that is a much cleaner frequency. Q. Do you need to buy anything more to get it working ? (cables...) A. No. the-boxx comes with everything you need for composite video (other then Batteries and monitor) If you want to use component video, you need one more cable. We also make a cable to use the Archos video recorder. www.archos . AV700
  21. Thanks for all the interest in my product guys. One point I would like to make is that with this technology and price point, I don?t see the delay coming down any time soon. Our new 4 frame delay system will be around twice the price of the current version. I have a delivery date of the first week in November. I would also like to offer a £200 cash back for the first 10 members of this site to place an order. If you would like to order please contact MK-V or email me at scott@boxx.tv Steadicam will also be a selling the?boxx in the near future. Regards, Scott
  22. The-boxx uses composite or component video with 2 channels of audio. Some hi-def cameras don?t output composite video so if you?re shooting with a 900 hi def, you can transmit full component video. It makes a big difference if you are displaying on a large monitor, (and the DOP loves you for it). The-boxx is £990/ $1800 each for the TX/RX., £1980/$3600 as set. This is the list price so we can do a bit better then that. Other points: The biggest problem we are having on sets is getting people to work with the delay. (½ second) We sell (or you can buy off the internet) a delay unit so the sound department can delay the audio to match the camera pictures. Search for a Behringer DSP110. They are about £50/$90. If you are sending the sound from the camera then it is in sync. We have another system on the way which has a 4 frame delay. It uses as many receivers as you need to cover the area. It works like a cell phone network. As the camera moves from room to room it jumps onto the closest receiver/repeater. Thank you for pointing the below out. This is incorrect. Sorry about that. I will have it changed. ......In their "terms and conditions", they say : "All prices on our website are inclusive of VAT and delivery charges.".......
  23. Hello everyone. We are the company that showed the new digital microwave system at IBC and NAB this year. Please have a look at www.boxx.tv. On our home page, click 'Analog vs digital demo.', then launch 'the boxx in use demonstration' This video shows how stable our system is through walls and movement while being used by Christopher TJ McGuire. I am happy to answer any questions so please email me if I can help. Howard Smith at MK-5 is also selling our system. Regards Scott Walker
