  5. Hey All Just wanted to express my thanks to all the operators out there who write on this Forum. I worked on my first feature Film as a steadicam operator about a week ago. the Movie is called "Gallowwalker" with Wesley Snipes as the lead. We where shooting Panavision i think it was Q2 or D2 that shoots 2 perv Which made framing a nightmare and on top of that we where in the desert in Namibia and it was SO hot. I just wanna say to all the young and upcoming operators, that does steadicam is a art and I thank the operators that have started these websites and also Afton Grant's website for us to be able to read about operating and ask YOU guys Q when need be... This must have been the most difficult thing i have done in a long time, Do i wanna be a operator "ANYDAY" will i do a feature again "HELL YEAH" keep writing guys you help us start our own careers Thanks...
  6. hey Guys... I bought a GB vest from Walter last year December and have been working with it for about a year now..I must say I have only worked on the GB vest so it is hard to give input on the diffrent vest BUT one thing i can say is that after doing a 2 hour Idols "live" show without docking once i was really impressed. I have use the front mount only once but 80% of the time i am on the back mount... Still the best thing I bought this year... Stay safe..

  8. Hey Rob & Thomas I just returned from the live show now...Sadly I could not go on the internet before the show otherwise I would have tried some of the advice before we started the production. I still have two shows left so I will pratice this week to see if I cannot get this right. It is hard going to a steadicam course not knowing all these small problems that can jump up on productions, thanks for guys like you who have done this a lifetime i can only pop a e-mail and fix the problems... Thanks again for all the advice I will keep you guys posted on how it went.. Did my first 16mm shoot this week had to pull of a 3min shot...talk about STRES!!!! Oh Thomas I actually downloaded your showreel last week how weird is that....Luv you work>>>Rob is there a place I can see some of your stuff... From a hot South-Africa later.... B)
  9. Hey evrybody.. I have been on this forum only for a few months now I am still a very fresh operator. Overnight my work load jumped from about 5 days a month to 5 days a week..I need to ask you guys a Q: how can i get my rig not to do small pendulum "sorry for the spelling" effects I am doing "Pop Idols" at the moment and when I look back at the stuff I shot it looks like the rig is making small movements left and right it is like my waist moves the rig when I walk...I have a Pro arm and rig...Do i need to shorten my Rig or do I need to adjust the arm more....i have less problems on Film rigs due to weight but I sometimes see it as well... What can you guys suggest I do.. Regards

  15. On my Steadicam Course this year in Munich we had a day of training on these handsfree, I had a bash without a steadicam on the hardmount and that was REALLY hard. It will take time and a lot of pratice to be able to do both but I am sure a operator will be able to get it right, after riding on it for a time a got the hang of it. but I never had a try with a steadicam where a bit scared I may hurt the rig.. Later Jurgen
  16. Hey Andy, Thanks for the help, does the operator do the zooming himself or does it work like a Preston when working on Film... J...
  17. Hey Guys there is a guy called Tillman Buttner who shot a movie called Russian Ark 90min one steadicam shot. On the behind the scenes he talks about the same thing in his legs. When I spoke to him on my course in Munich he said after the called cut he had no feeling in his leg....I just bought a Duel mount from Walter he said he will phone m to tell me how to set up my vest to avoid any problems.... Later JB

  20. Hey All...this website is awesome, I am learning SO MUCH..I am 28 - just did a course in Munich Germany bought a Walter Klassen duel mount vest and was in the process of buying a PRO from George Paddock BUT the finance cought up with me. So now I have my vest but no rig - that sucks ...Here in SA I cannot rent a Rig so i am struggling to pratice what I learned in Germany. With all that said, I am thinking of coming to the USA for a period of time to assist Steadicam Operators and do low key work. Just to get some experience & to get my name out there..More than likely California. I have done some sport here in SA but my heart is in Film..I did 2 years of Film Studies as DP but I wanna be a Steadicam Operator and Cam Operator for a while. Are there any Operators who will be able to help me find my way around when I land in the USA in May.. I have a Walter Klassen vest duel mount I bought.. Kind Regards Jurgen..

  22. Hey Sean Jurgen from SA I did a Steadicam course in Germany for a week and my first shoot with the Rig was really really hard. But like all things in life you have to pratice as much as you can. I had to do a 10min shot on live tv and I can tell you my back killed me, I spend 2 days a week in a gym with a trainer and I still get tired...GOOD LUCK WITH THE SHOOT..... Oh one more thing PLEASE STOP IF YOU FEEL pain...my girl is a loader she picked up a lensebox hurt her back and had to retire from the industry KEEP THAT IN MIND..... Regards Jurgen Badenhorst, RSA
