  1. Thank you Osvaldo, I did purchased the book a few months ago and Im on my 2nd time going through it. I love this book. Yes the first time I read it I have no clue what most things were, but I feel like Im starting to get to know the terms and a some other stuff. I probably need to read it a few more times to get the whole thing in my head. Thanks for the advise, and yes Im taking my time and Im trying to be very patience with this. Im a very ambitious person but thanks to my wife she helps me slow down and take things step by step. My next short term goal is to go to one of the workshops. Hopefully I can do some shooting once Im in Texas so I can keep practicing. Thanks again. I really appreciate how some of you that are in the biz for a while and have the experience take the time to answer questions to newbies like me.
  2. Yes Mr. Holway. I will take the advise. I've seen a few manuals on the SOA site under Jerry Holway, are you the same person? Just wondering. I have read a little bit from some of those manuals, very useful info. Anyways, thank you again!
  3. Hello Everyone, This is my second time asking advise and opinion at this forum. The first time was very helpful, thanks. I just graduated college and Im moving to the Dallas, TX area for the summer. I have a paid internship at a TV station so hopefully I can just stay there. I purchased the Steadicam Pilot a few months ago and I have used it for a few video productions that I did for school. Also I recently used it for couple video jobs I was hired to do. I do realize that it takes a lot of practice and learning to get better using the steadicam. I like to know if there is some type of group or individuals who are more experienced that live in the area who may be interested on having some help so I can shadow and learn from someone with experience? I am planning on attending one the Tiffen workshops in the near future, Im just saving money for it at the moment. My other questions are about the Steadicam Operators Association. How important it is to be a part of this association? When it would be the best time to join? How much experience it is required to join? If anyone can provide some of this info it would be great. Thanks in advance! feel free to email me at rsmediaprod@gmail.com
  4. Just a quick update. I finally purchased the Steadicam Pilot VLB. I've been reading the steadicam operators manual by Jerry Holway and Laurie Hayball. I just like to thank you all for the input. Now Im going to spend quite some time learning how to use the rig. Hopefully one day I can be a member of the SOA.
  5. Oh yes, I just realized that there are a few other accessories for the rig. I've seen this at B&H Photo http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/536219-REG/Steadicam_PILOT_VLB_Pilot_VLB_Camera_Stabilization_System.html/prm/alsVwDtl I haven't found a good site to look for used gear. If anybody knows of one please let know or post a link. Thanks ! By the way this forum is very helpful.
  6. Thank you Mr. Robert I'll try to get it touch with Tim. Yes I think I like to start with the smaller rig so that I can learn. Hopefully after finishing college this summer I can spend a lot more time trying to learn steadicam. looking forward to get more involved with the steadicam community.
  7. Hello Im a college student and Im about to graduate this summer with a BA on Media Communications. I've been interested in being a steadicam op for a little while.( Since I met Tim Yoder at my internship last summer) By looking at the prizes and comments on steadicam rigs looks like the pilot is a good starting point but Im not sure. I have a little experience with DSLRs, I own a Nikon D7000 right now. Also Im working at a news station here in town operating a sony cinealta xdcam hd ex3 for broadcasting. I can only afford the pilot for now but I like to know if its safe to start with the Pilot or not? Im guessing that if eventually I need to get a bigger rig the pilot could be sold or just keep it for DSLR kind of stuff. I just feel like going straight into a 10K - 30K rig may not be wise. Any suggestions or advise will be appreciated. By the way I just bought the The Steadicam Operator's Handbook. And if possible I like to attend to a Workshop. Thank you in advance.
