  1. Thanks Jerry, will do. What are these machinists you talk of? The UK is an island of bankers and shop keepers. I cant find a machinist here.

The dial was just spinning without tightening the wedge, I guess its thread has gone after 20 years. Paper tape and pliers got me back in action for now.

  2. Cool, I guess its not designed for DSLR lenses but is going to get used with them so its worth mentioning to them a feature you think would be beneficial. The other important thing is to make sure the response is set to fast for the focus motor. The default has added smoothing which is nice for zoom and iris but adds latency you don't want for focus.

  3. 1st ACs that use mine love it and don't have any problems. Its the best £4000 I've spent. If you engage the motor before you power up it will auto calibrate no problem. Also you might have been holding the controller very near the transmitter when you first got it without being able to set the wireless power setting to low. Did the super speeds have stiffness near the infinity stop to cause that callibration issue?

  4. I am so looking forward to this. Time to play, practice and learn in great company on a floating Thirties palace.

I'm arriving at LAX a day early on the Saturday to get my body clock sorted.

I don't know L.A. apart from a teenage whistle tour of California. Planning to book an airbnb in Santa Monica/Venice Beach for the Saturday night. Can I buy anyone a beer?

  5. Update: I've been working with the RT Motion 3.1 a lot lately and am really very happy. It does everything I need. I have also used the thumbwheel as a handy run stop on the gimbal handle while practicing. RTMotion have apointed extra staff to cope with the demand and their support is now spot on.

  6. Thanks for correction Jim. I'm no expert on radio and wireless. It seems to be about a 2-3 foot blind spot, I will check with different power range settings when I get a chance. Perhaps its a symptom of the one mile line of sight strength signal.

Have you had a chance to play with the new mk3.1 Jim? It does offer a few different approaches that make it a fair rival to the BFD in my humble opinion. Strangely with a single motor it rents for upto 2.2x the rate of the BFD in London right now (£150 vs £70.) I guess it's all the Movi and drone guys wanting the lightest possible transmitter. I do love the no brainer auto calibration and the protected antennas, but imagine that US based Steadicam ops are still best served by the Holy Trinity of wireless follow focus you mentioned. Peace of mind and awesome customer support seem pretty high priorities!

  7. Seriously though, it wasn't that long ago when a HD Recording deck would cost $80,000. These things cost as much as a lemo cable. There is just no sense in paying an engineer to repair things that cost this little. Blackmagic products are student or hobbyist priced products that give amazing results for the price.
