  1. Hello everyone, I'm considering buying a rig. One of the toughest questions that I have is what is the general market place environment at the present time. Very tough to answer b/c it is an individual viewpoint in relation to how much work one gets. A good L.A. guy is going to work more than a new op from D.C. I live in D.C. at the moment and split time in S. Florida, or can split time in Fl. Most of my old freelance contacts are gone since I moved to D.C. A.P. and reuters don't use a lot of Steadicam. I used to shoot as a Beta Cam owner/op in S. Florida and did well...now...I'm not so sure how many calls a fairly new Steadicam Op should expect in this post recession environment. As always...any response helps...even on such an open ended question. Thanks again, Mikko
  2. I'd like to get some feedback from you vet's on which zoom control you prefer and why. I've got a 10 pin Fuji hanging on an Iki. I've done a little research on this, but experience from the field speaks volumes. Thanks in advance guys...and Ladies, Cheers, Mikko
  3. I don't know about the others there Ozzie, but I shoot w/ it every single day...sadly. I'm all studio. I'd love to break out and do something cool in the field, but, I'll probably need my own rig for that...working on it. You're down in Miami...right? I used to shoot a hell of a lot of stuff down on S. Beach when I was free lancing w/ my Beta gear from 94-'07. Very cool down there, do you need a dedicated camera assist w/ some film experience? I still have a place to live down there, and would make a move in a heart beat. Don't think I'm joking...D.C. is not the place for me, but, it keeps me busy. Cheers...
  4. Hey Pete,...thanks man, I'm gonna look into this...I'm waiting to see what I get that the "engineers" ordered and go from there. You know where I work, so you know what I have to go through. In any case, is this what I will need going from triax out of the camera and going back into a triax cable that'll lead into the CCU? As always Pete...thanks dude, Mikko
  5. Hey Frederic...that's a million. I tired your idea and it works. I'm going to run w/ it. Now it's a waiting game until my new jumper gets here. Thanks again, it's a nice little community we have here. Have a great day Frederic, Mikko
  6. Thanks for the input Ron...nice little community we got here. Have a good one, Mikko
  7. Thanks for the feedback Osvaldo. Good idea w/ the vid's too, appreciate that. I do set my rig up pretty much like you. I tired Frederic's idea w/ the clamp and that seems to work well. It gives that little extra bit of freedom that I was looking for and gets that cable out of the way for smoother pans. It does however, block the monitor just a little, but, I don't seem to mind. Thanks dude, appreciate the video. Mikko
  8. Thank you Frederic...that's what I am going to have to do. I tried to google some production images from Hugo to see exactly how Larry did it, but, couldn't find a real good angle on it. I did see what he had to deal with though, which was amazing really. I will improvise as this is the best suggestion yet. Thank you, that helps a lot. Have a great day Frederic. Mikko
  9. Hi Brant...and thanks. Oddly, it was your post that first came up in a google search I did about a week or so ago. You mentioned Carmen Abato in that post and I reached out to him. This is absolutely the way that I want to go but, the powers that be, didn't want to spend the money. So, it looks like I might have to do it myself, depending on what I get when I see the jumper the engineers ordered for me. Thanks a million for your help. It's much appreciated. Mikko Oh...btw...Carmen quoted me 400 for one so if you got two, that's not bad. Have a great day,
  10. Hello fellow Steadicam ops... My first post...I'm new to the forum and fairly new to Steadicam...2 years. Question...can someone advise me on how they shoot/config their camera shooting w/ half inch thick Triax cable. It pushes my camera and makes it difficult. My jumper cable went bad...expecting a new one but, will probably be too thick. There is a gentleman in L.A. who makes custom cables that I am aware of but, I cannot use one here b/c it is not "Approved"...don't ask...that's another can of worms. Please...if someone has a nice, neat way of config a triax I'll be forever in their debt. Thanks in Advance, much appreciated... Mikko
