  1. Hi John

OK so I am going to ignore all the other stuff and come back to your question. The V rigs are a series are rigs designed for operators who do a lot of multi camera work to offer things that the operator would either have or buy or make to make their working life easier. The Solo is responding to customer requests and the Curve is a GoPro accessory.

Happy for you to ring me to chat when I am back in the office next week.

  2. Looking at the parts it is the lower piece that is bent suggesting that the pin was put in from the bottom and not located in the top hole. The material is perfectly strong enough but will of course bend if only the lower section is engaged. I would recommend always putting the pin in from the top.

  5. Hey Monty

Do I remember you from a workshop with me in England? Maybe 2008? I am pretty sure we would have covered this.

DB is a help not a goal in itself. It will make it easier for you to shoot however may be difficult in the sled/monitor combination you have. Lighter batteries like modern Li-Ion will help, extending the monitor mount and maybe putting a battery on the back of the monitor if you can.

It's personal preference but I would not change the drop time for that running shot especially if you don't have a problem with the horizon but do use the arm height and fore and aft trim to keep the headroom. Unless you are panning, good DB will make little difference.

  6. Hi Jacob

Send me an e-mail directly at robin.thwaites@tiffen.com and I will see if I can help with contacts. Also have a look at www.flysteadicam.com for Paul Edwards article on shooting in 3D. Probably more than you are looking for but interesting nevertheless.

  7. Greetings all.

I highlighted this thread to Garrett to get his opinion. He is currently at a workshop with variable internet but asked me to post this reply.

Robin, please post this reply on my behalf:

Viability of Tango on the back of snowmobile is about the same as ordinary Steadicam. With a small light polecam-type camera like Sinacam or Toshiba and the 'slave end' in neutral balance, vibration is zero problem and vectran drive line for panning function should not be affected by cold. Wind will only affect the 'master end' but the long pole contributes to additional overall stability.

I think it will work very well. The lens can skim the ground or be several meters in the air and will be away from the snow kicked up by the vehicle. Let's facilitate a test. Tango can be more useful on Segway than normal Steadicam and I think, within similar limits for speed and weather, will likely provide big added value for this.

  8. Some spring breaks on these arms are collateral damage from cable breaks. I am not saying this one was or wasn't but it is a good reason for getting the arm checked regularly. Cable breaks can also be a knock on effect from damaged pulley wheels or misalignement (maybe where someone has turned back the spring tension and the spring has twisted) so worth sighting along the cables occasionally.
