  1. Telesend Review. I like Charles, also dropped Nick a line at Teletest, when he posted on the forum. He sent me a Telesend system, consisting a HD transmitter and the LCD monitor with built in receiver, to field test for a couple of weeks. I only had opportunity to use it on a couple of occasions as there is usually the baying mob at video village to pander to, and unfortunately the model I had, had no HD-SDI video loop through on the receiver. However, this is available on different models but not on the test package I was sent. Having used most video links available and drawing on that experience, I felt the Telesend video transmission was equal to and better than a Teradeck Bolt or Paralinx Arrow and much better than most Wevi's I've used. This is purely based on how solid the link remained under normal operating conditions. It is plug and play but unicast and didn't support 24p and 24fps, only 25fps or multiples thereof, (Teletest told me that it will support 24p & 24fps in the new year.) However if you look at their website you will see that the units are incredibly competitively priced. As a TX and RX with a built in LCD, when only the director/DoP needs to see a picture the unit makes perfect sense. If it were multicast I would be ordering a set up. Whilst I know the Bolt offers multicast transmission, it loses link too readily going around corners. I used it in Canary Wharf and on the Citibank trading floor and there was no breakup, even when going around corners in corridors or when the line of site was broken. It worked great in the WiFi rich environment of an office - Wevi's and Titans would just give up in there. I also used it in Shepperton Studios with equally no breakup and also on location in a forest – even though Teletest took great pains to recommended a line of site, the link held when this was broken. It is no Boxx Meridian, which is my weapon of choice, but at the price it is offered it does not pretend to be!

  5. According to our test, an Aaton Penelope can be turned upside down, have stock run through it and not scratch.
  6. The LT with Steadimags definitely scratched, but didn't jam, upside down, the only time I was requested to do so by the Director, "to save time" ....Every shot that day in poormans low mode was scratched. I have always used the lowmode top since. I have never had any jamming or scratching issues with a 435 just because it was upside down however. Though will always use the 100% video/ steadicam low mode top anyway if available. I can find no dedicated steadicam top for the Penelope so would have plate up onto the top handle which stinks of vibration issues just like the SR2/3 and the Alexa before the steadicam tops were made! I have a low mode cage anyway but was still wondering which camp Penelope sits in? Will post results of running the camera upside down later this week to put into the info bank.
  7. Anyone have any experience of wether running an Aaton Penelope upside down scratches the film? I only ask as my experience with 435's is you can shoot upside down scratch free, but Arricam LT's won't ! I will be asking the AC to test this when he steady tests the lenses but it would be great to hear beforehand. Cheers!

  10. I'm not against using a level, albeit a bubble or an electronic one, I use both, one a bubble superglued to my topstage and an in built electronic one in my Transvideo monitor. I guess my point was that if you are spending too much energy looking at the level to check that it is level, one may well be compromising the composition of your frame.
  11. I find that the frame is level or isn't level according to the verticals which occur within it. They are generally the best thing to refer to when trying to keep your frame level beautiful and level.
  12. I am just about to put an order in for a New Pro arm with 4 blue and 4 black springs but, before I do, just checking on the unlikely scenario that someone out there is about to put theirs on the market. I am based in the UK but will be in LA from the 5th to the 15th April.

There are 10 good chocolate bar batteries which hold their charge well + 2 PAG chargers

  15. Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I am in need of a video deck plate to attach to my PRO 1 base, anyone got one they are willing to sell? Cheers Rick
