  1. Selling my gently used Zephyr rig for $6000 flat. Please no haggling. If it fails to sell I'll revisit the price but not interested in trades or extended negotiations.

It's in fine working order but for an internal cable that needs to be replaced. I've used a cable externally as a workaround and have had no problems.

It's currently in the Catskills of New York state and could be picked up there or in Brooklyn. [Otherwise I'm happy to ship it for an additional cost tbd.]

if you're interested please reach out directly to me at: joshuapowellis@gmail.com

  2. I was out of town shooting this past weekend and couldn't make this month's meetup. But that's a terrific idea and I won't miss the next one.

    Where are these posted?

And thank you Keith, you're a veritable encyclopedia of good advice. If you live anywhere near Brooklyn I'd love to buy you a beer and chat.

  3. Hey,

I have done the workshop. Bought my zephyr. Practiced the heck oughtta it running around the woods. Chasing things through the city. Getting better and more confident with the gear and the techniques.

Where is the best place to get my foot in the door?

I've shot footage basically for free for friends and friends of friends but at a certain point one needs to get paid. Not necessarily a lot--I recognize this is the dues paying time--but something but as sure as dues must be paid so too the rent.

Where are the best places to look for work as an independent, freelance steadicam op at the beginning of their career?

Should one just post oneself on Mandy or something?

Any suggestions, advice, criticism, etc, very welcome.

  4. Hey, I'm in a similar position having recently completed Garrett Brown's Steadicam Course in PA.

I'm looking to get my first rig and initially thought I'd get a zephyr but enough people seem to suggest skipping that step because it can't handle the weight of pro camera set-ups.

I guess I'd like a recommendation. If not the zephyr, which model will be able to handle the demands of most pro cameras? How valuable is it to get a newer model versus a heavy-duty older, used rig? And given all the various set-ups, which battery mounts do most people suggest? I've been lead to believe V-Mounts are better and tougher than ABs.

Before I drop the big money what else would you pros suggest I def do or do not get? keep in mind? and where's the best place to buy and/or get stuff fixed?

    i am very much obliged.
