  1. Here's a mod I did a couple years back http://imgur.com/a/H65Za

Yes you can use a shaft collar

That is exactly what I was going to do with 15mm rods xD

Did you find it made the rig better than before? I am pretty new to Steadicam (as in actually learning the thing properly).

The limited stock bottom stage is just not working for me atm so was looking into doing this (pretty much exact) mod.

    Thanks

    Jack,

  2. Hi all

Thinking about modding this Flyer LE I have.

I am happy using the Flyer (I only use it for personal projects, I am not really a Steadicam Op, pretty much learning still) but the fine tuning is a bit difficult due to the lack of movement the monitor and battery have.

I was wondering if a split shaft collar would work well to camp to the bottom post (the internal one) to replace the current mount and stage down there with a custom one I am machining.

Going off these photos, it looks to work fine.

    Any advice for doing this?

    Thanks

    Jack,

  3. The Clip decoder will allow you to pull focus the way you want, at the same latency the Clip streams to an iPad.

Bolt has less than a milisecond of delay (unnoticeable) and the image is visually lossless. Granted, its different technology (OFDM, not Wifi) and it is more expensive.

If you go down the Clip route, I highly recommend using an access point when doing this (i.e. dont just allow the Clip ENC to connect to the Clip DEC directly). This will ensure a much stronger wireless connection, will give you more range, and overall, a better experience. ANY router will work, just make sure its 5GHz and not 2.4GHz. Oh and make sure you get the Clip Decoder with external antennas - it'll give you better signal reception.

I love Clip and I think a lot of people in the industry would fall in love with it too if they just gave it a chance. The image quality is great and the delay is so so small. Its a really great confidence monitoring tool.

If you have any more questions, just shoot me an email: mike@teradek.com

    Still has 1/4-1/2 second delay?

    Hmmm

I already use my Ubnt AP to get better signal, without it, get loads of crap on the screen even within a normal room with only few people in it..

The Bolt is pretty good (would be awesome if the last few times we had it on set it didn't stop working half way through :p).

PS, this is for my personal kit, if it was proper set we always rent decent setup.

  4. Don't use Clip for pulling focus!

Repeat: don't use Clip for pulling focus!

While the Clip is fantastic for confidence monitoring to an iPad (just 4 frames of latency), its not meant for use with what you plan to do.

This is why we have the Teradek Bolt!

I know it is not Bolt quality but that is when paired with iPads and other devices.

The Clip decoder might actually be decent enough for it...?

I have connected the Clip to my PC and displayed it on full screen and it is possible to do it though it is a tad soft is all.

  5. Hi all.

So currently I have a Teredek Clip TX.

Just about to invest into a cheap wireless follow focus so need to finish up my wireless setup.

I can either buy the Clip RX, which I have not used before, seen anyone else use it or any review...

Or go for a cheap TX/RX "HDMI wireless transmitter". Like the ones you see on AliExpress for $200.

Such as this one from LINK-MI https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LINK-MI-LM-WHD05-50m-5GHz-WHDI-802-11n-Wireless-HDMI-Wireless-Video-Transmitter-and-Receiver/32374563588.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.2.f3m8Dg&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10056_10065_10068_10055_10054_10069_10059_10073_10017_10071_10070_10060_10061_10052_10062_10053_10050_10051,searchweb201603_7&btsid=149d5468-2962-4572-96a8-9af7ce974a37

Obviously my goal here is to be able to pull focus from a monitor.

I mainly use my Ronin (I am not sorry :p ) which is why I need the wireless setup.

Are there any more budget friendly setups?

Anyone here tried the Clip RX?

    Thanks

    Jack,
