  1. great lighting and looks,

and how you got all the kids to work so well

    great stuff,

    i like doing these competitons

when things are slow it helps me keep in touch

with my rig and staying in shape

i have a group of friends that we do these

    48hr contest here in honolulu,

so here is one we turned into a music video

the genre was "misconception"and the props where a

    buddah and a polaroid picture

and the line we had to include

was "hey someone is using that"

  2. I train Jiu Jitsu & Judo since 10 years.

You´ll forget all your stress when somebody is on top of you looking for a choke for you...

If you want, I can send you info of some Academies in Barcelona, Alicante or Madrid where I trained.

    here a video.Enjoy it:

I won the NAGA (North American Grappling Association) last year with a head and arm triangle (the tecnique used at 1:53 of the YouTube video.

Wow, didn't know so many Steadicam Ops were into BJJ. I won two 2nd place medals at NAGA for Gi and no-Gi. It was fun! Unfortunately, I got owned at the Gracie Invitational last year. Trying to work some flying triangles and arm-bars though, figure that's the last thing anyone expects these days.

So, Amando you'd love Jiu Jitsu for its art, plus I can only see it helping as far as operating goes (as long as you know when to TAP) haha.

    Amazing.

Im not alone. Im surprise other Steadicam operators are training BJJ.

After training during 10 years, Im brown belt under Mario Sukata here in Argentina.

Next july I hope go to Brazil to fight the Mundial Master.

Mike, The choke is called "kesagatame" and usually I train it from mounted position or guard position.

if you mistake the choke, you can take the back

Here is a video of 2002 fighting a Submission cup.

Im in a red tshirt that master Carlson Gracie give me to me in 2001.

best to all and take care of knee locks!

    Gus.

    hey gus

watched the video clip nice finish actually that was a great match

alot going on,and i am glad to see that i'm not alone as well,

i've been with relson gracie for a little over 15 years now

and i think it is the best cross training for steadicam ops and almost anything else you do

but with all said great job,and mike's got a great idea

we can do a steadicam op tourney that would be a blast

and i know it would suck cause you guys would have to come to hawaii to do the tourney lol

then we'll have a steadicam surfing contest at pipeline to that follow up hehe

    best to all

    phat congrats

    which belt

  4. I've had long conversations with Anton Bauer about this. If your buying the batteries, they will both provide the same quality of power but the dionics will last about 1/3 longer (and cost almost twice as much). If you are renting them for a day, it doesn't really matter (get whatever batteries are the newest). If your buying them, I'd go for the less expensive Hytron's knowing you will have to replace them sooner.

    mm.

    thanks mike

yeah i'll have to rent them

    hey great initials mm

  5. hey niko

another rig that doesn't get mentioned here is the sachtler "artemis" rig

it comes hd,sdi,sd and component ready and they are in munich as well

    Hi guys!

The first thing is to introduce myself. I'm Niko Lasarte, an operator established in spain.

The second thing to apologize for the mistakes in my English. any way, let´s see.

This is the time to change my old EFP sled by one most complete. I was in CINEC and I had the opportunity to test several rigs.

Among others tried the PRO and felt very comfortable. until now had the guru of the steadis (also because I was able to work with her and know her). also tried the MK-V and also felt very well, a very fine machine.

In favor of MK-V I see 2 things:

    - Is a 4 stage sled (which can make a superpost in 5 minutes).

    - It is ready to carry HD signal to the inside of the sled.

On the contrary: - price :o , and don´t know the weight sled. I have heard that working with light cameras can be uncomfortable. Has anyone had this experience?

PRO sled? I like a lot but I have a feeling that is lagging behind in some respects. With this future is coming ... (RED, ARRI D-21 and those coming!

I have also heard of XCS but I don´t know.

I would like to know your opinion on the matter. What do you think of the HD and post in 4 stage? So I can make myself a more complete idea and decide with more discretion.

    Thank you very much ;)

    Niko

  6. i am looking into getting the handsfree i live in hawaii

and i really don't want to ship it over from europe

is it possible to purchase the right handsfree here in the states

the one that you lean into to make turn and still get the good

post set-up from reinhardt,i see a bunch of them for sale on ebay

    thanks

  7. Can't remember if the RED battery holder has a P-tap on it, you have one of those cables...?

Otherwise, Jeroen at Lexmond (818-384-4323) or Terry West (310-374-5711) will be able to make you the cable you need. Incidentally I just got the single-channel run cable for the RED made.

yes there is a p tap on the red but its a little quarky

might even shut the red down or possibly not even let it fire up

its a shooting match in my past experience

sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't

  8. Hey Mark,

That was me thanks for the cudos. Did you see at the end of Step Up where I tried to follow him up the ramp and augered in the loose dirt up to my knees!!!! Very funny stuff.

I got to watch it the other day in a jib shot you see me sink in and plant the base of the sled.

Thankfully nonthing broke and I got through the rest of the games with no issues.

    Anyways thanks

    -Erik

yes i saw that great climb,

me and my girl were cheering you on,

we new what you were up to,

    way to hang in there

  9. aloha dude,

bad news about the house. Hope the bastards fall into a volcano.

several years ago before I was in the union, I worked on several union jobs as a contractor. the problem was with the stagehands that found out and refused to help. we were in atlantic city and i think the producer greased a palm or two just to get through the day. he then politely told me he couldn't use me again until I joined. i have been on several jobs here recently where the jib op was non union and billed through his company without any problems, so it can be done.

    Torch

    thanks chris

hope all is well with you and the fam

always look for you when i see the jimmy show

  10. aloha robert

    thanks buddy

yeah i have actually sent contract services my 100 days of work

with check stubs, what each event was where it went

whether it was tape, live to tape, live or even just dvd series

also letter heads from the companys and then contract services tells me they want copys of my invoices

at that point i was stuck in a bad way

our house was broken into computer and alot of other goodies where stolen

and then i also delete my old invoice after a

certain amount of time because i need the space

my bad for not backing them up on a differnt hard drive

    lesson learned

so not only do i own my own steadicam rig i also own a couple of jibs and a technojib

this is the reason i am wondering about the owner operator thing

i went to the rights to work part of there website but it was rather vague

but once again thanks for the help

oh and i still have your sticker on my case from when you where at tiffen

i laugh all the time when i see that

  11. please guys don't beat me up here

my question is this,if you are working on a

lets say "b" or less rated film

and you are not in the 600 union

can they keep you from working

if you are contracted as an owner operator

whether it be steadicam, technojib, technocrane, or moco operator

    peace

  12. The last time I had the Camwave out on set it didn't recognize the Sony flavor of 24p (24sfp...? is that right?) and it was back to the drawing board--haven't heard anything since about the unit, although I have sent emails to the rep. If it takes them a while to get this dialed in, it might get interesting as the Boxx folks are due to have their unit out by the end of the year.

    hey charles

when i spoke with the idx guys they had

mentioned that they were working on an upgrade

but they didn't mention what the upgrade was

we can only hope that was one of them

that was around the time i last posted about this unit

    thanks

  13. aloha chris

my question is when you are stepping in and out of the handsfree

do you have a type of thether for the sled just incase your assistant isn't around

that allows you to get on and off with out the rig doing something you wouldn't want it to

or would you just go to your stand and bow in and out of it to land your sled

and then step on and off

thanks i'm just wondering about different situations

cause i want one,one of these days lol

  14. Guys,

I am just back for Peter Abraham's Flyer school (Thanks Peter!) and neet to purchase a good zoom controller for the flyer. My cam is a JVC GY-HD250ch with 17x Fuji lense.

    Any suggestions,

    Thanks

    Mark Cowherd

    Louisville, KY

also checkout the stanton jimmy jib website

they have a zoom and focus handle that

will work with the fuji and canon lenses

  15. Sitting on my little bar stool sweating like a pig waiting for our next shot and I noticed a little play in my socket block. Pulled out my allen set and found that every screw was a little loose. Then I pulled out my phillips and found that almost every one of those screws around the rig were loose. Not complaining, just reminding anyone that cares, that things do work loose after awhile. I must admit it has been several months since I took a long look at the whole rig. Fly right fly tight.

    Kris

    hey kris

    the screws maybe loose

but does a wooden horse still have a wooden pecker lol

just great memories,i still play that vid back

  16. i am currently using the sachtler "artemis pro hd sdi" sled and the nebtek monitor

as far as the sled it can take an HD/SDI signal an SD signal and do a component signal RGB as well

all thru the post never had any problems and i have used them all at one time or another

for 2300.00us the nebtek does hd/sdi,sd and component and has a loop out of all the signals

i use it in the sun all the time and can always see frame,

the image has never ever completly gone away

but i think they could use a few more nit's,but once again for the price it's solid

and it's built solid with a full medal jacket around it

i have done 2 side by side test with this monitor one test against

the transvideo superbright and one against the panasonic hd monitor

    both test done outdoors

results the superbright won,but not by a mile and it's not hd

the panasonic lost, with the sunlight hitting the screens at the same angle

the nebtek still had a very viewable picture where as the panasonic was barely there

and once again for the price i am happy
