that sounds great charles
can't wait to hear the results

aloha gents
just thinking if there was a tv truck, flypac or video village more than
100 to 500 feet away from set
would it be possible to run the receiver up hi or wherever it may work,
thats out of the way from other interference which could cause problems.
Would it be possible to run an sdi cable from the receiver to the truck, flypac
or even video village and still get the same results
with a clean picture and no latency
not sure if this has been tried out or not,
reason i ask is i haven't heard anything about this type of set up.
But do you think it is possible

Just curious why you would run both the onboard and your own monitor? For focus? The AC on this gig has been trying to get me to let him mount the RED monitor on the camera for him.
hey afton
i leave the monitor on mostly for the menu settings for the DIT,the monitor has this kool focus band for the ac,who uses it to get things started, the hystogram and other levels are easily checked as well
since i don't have a downconverter it also lets the director have a look and its good for playback
oh! and that was the happy medium i agreed upon,so they don't get the camera body handle
and i definetly respect you for sticking to your guns, that is a long ass rig your flyin, way to go

Afton - and others: are you guys buying these downconverters yourselves? Or is it something that you can reasonably ask the production to get in for you?
Just wondering whether I have to add another £1000 bit of equipment to my shopping list...
Just had a phone conversation with Alec Jarnagin and we touched on this exact subject. As of right now, I have not needed to own my own downconverter. Production has always been responsible for renting one. As the HD world grows stronger, and with advances in technology like this affordable [relatively speaking] HD transmitter that was just released, the responsibility will start to shift to the owner/operator to keep their equipment up to date with the rest of the equipment on set. This will mean either updating all your gear to be HD compatible, or buying equipment like a downconverter that will work with your current equipment. There are so many other departments that operate and rely upon SD signals, however, I do think we've got some time before that inevitability happens. And while we're waiting, who knows what new technology might be released?
ALOHA AFTON
I HAVE PUT SOME VERY SMALL WASHERS ON THE SHOULDER MOUNT RIGHT INSIDE THE LITTLE WHITE PLASTIC AREA
AND THAT HAS TAKEN OUT A GOOD BIT OF THE LOOSNESS NOT 100% BUT DEFINETLY NOTICEABLE, I HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE HARD DRIVE,BUT I HAVENT HAD THE LONG GLASS THAT YOU ARE WORKING WITH AT HE PRESENT,NOW BUILD 15 LETS YOU DO BOTH THE ONBOARD MONITOR AND MY HD,SDI MONITOR WORK AT THE SAME TIME,I HAD A POWER CABLE MADE TO USE THE BATTERIES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SLED WHICH I LOVE THAT HAS HELPED WITH IT BEING LONG AND TOP HEAVY

Aloha back Mark,
Yes, both transmitter and receiver have 4 pin XLR 10-17v DC input.
Here's a site that has all the specs:
http://www.zotzdigital.com/item.php?pid=20...943b6c1a527f6d4
thanks charles
that is very kool

aloha charles
thanks for the detailed report,it sounds like a great tool,
is it possible to power the unit without the battery attached to it
i guess i am asking if we can power it thru the sled
best regards

wow, that's pretty snazzy! so the extreme controler setup you used beggs the question, how many different types of controlers are there? and, could you just make your own custom set up and plug it in to all the existing cranes (probably not as there are too many variations of pin config).....
hey mike
i'm pretty sure it depends on the manufacturer of the head
not so much the crane itself

Aloha Mark,
I almost always boom up or down if it is a quick repo. If I have a second I will use my fancy motorized top stage to trim for an effortless tilt. Of course your more primitive Sachtler probably doesn't have this feature so you can only dream about such precision. :P
Torch
hey buddy
hope all is well, yes i am jealous of your fancy trim
for that full taste tilt, but i'm sure you'll be happy to hear the news
they lifted the band on same sex marriage in your state!!!!!! LOL
hehe thats gross
-
i do this by the feel of the shot
when to boom the arm or tilt the sled,
looking for some other opinions on this subject
camera operators are usually very artistic individuals
so i would like to hear
some of you guys other thoughts on this subject
thanks

Very excellent. By far the C-Motion unit is my favorite with the exception of a few things. What frequency is the system using?
According to their website, it uses a 2.4 gHz frequency
so does this mean this fequency is going to mess with some wireless video signals

i dont know but there were some great fights! GSP FTW!!!
hey mike
great stuff from gsp,and both showed alot of class afterwards, real pros
and once again solid job by the steadicam op
yeah and i wish they would have shown the ed herman fight, best submission for the night
-
just wondering who did steadicam on the ufc 83 in canada
he did a great job with all the people around reaching in and all that
as they were trying to get on the tube

check out the sachtler "artemis" monitor bracket as well
it has the dual rods, monitor plate that does both the tb-6 style monitor
and the lcd style monitor, easy to flip for low mode
you can pan and tilt the monitor
and be able to raise or lower the rods(up and down)
slide them fowards and backwards to your liking
just some more options for DB and lets you be able to
move the weight higher or lower on your rig
depending on if you want your post longer or shorter for different applications

aloha gents
i have a varicam shoot coming up
and i spoke with the dp,he mentioned a few low mode shots
but with very little turn around time
so my question is,does the varicam do image flip
when turned upside down or via menu

Thanks guys. The Transvideo looks to be about half a pound, so that's OK. I'll see if we can rent one of those (or if someone has one they rent to us, let me know).
aloha charles
i gotta transvideo frameline generator that i'm not using
if your still looking to get one,i will make this one available
contact me by email:kalohe714@yahoo.com

Anyway, my question is this;
anyone had any bad experience with the RED camera plate yet? Or is it all good?
LE
aloha lars
i have flown the red over a dozen times now
and i have experienced no problems
have fun fly red
-
Yeah, this power thing with RED needs to be sorted out. I've heard lots of ghost stories but no concrete explanations. This has inspired me to put up a thread at Reduser about this. If I want to power the camera off my rig for lightweight work, I need to know why this isn't possible or if it is just superstition.
aloha charles
i got a red power cable built last week by jeroen lexmond
i got ahold him on saturday (jeroen@lexmond.com)
had the cable by tuesday, could have been sooner
if it had been a super rush, and my hat is off to jeroen
very nice craftsmanship and he made the cable red for me
very kool (red peeps should be stoked)
but main thing i had no problems powering thru my sled
so i was able to keep the red storage up top in the carriage
worked on and off from 9a to 9p and no down time downloading cards
the camera flew very nice and i had a great time
so at this point i am claiming superstition
and no wobbles that from the camera plate
which had been mentioned in another post
-
Heard some issues about a wobbly baseplate coming with the production pack especially in cold weather. Can you second that?
hell i wobble in the cold thats why i live here in hawaii
now on a real note,i haven't had any problems with wobble
but now i'm curious,i have a shoot with red on sunday
i'll check it out even though i am pretty sure
i would have noticed this in the pass
keep chillin
-
Mark,
"and i use the hd/sdi output from the red thru my post
to the monitor no problem, beautiful pictures"
What sled are you using? Curious about the wiring. Thanks.
alec
i am using the "artemis" efp pro hd,sdi sled
-
I am seeking for someone flying a Red One on his sled already. Since the camera does not have analogue outputs I thought the signal must be converted to composite somehow. I talked to a tech today and he told me tht there were severe problems converting the signal through a Aja converter. It only produced a b/w picture and he thought the SDI signal of the camera was not clean. As far as I know the Red has two 1080 outputs. So anyone had the chance to give it a try using an "analogue" signal chain to the monitor?
Thanks
Markus
aloha markus
best bet is to get ahold of a monitor that excepts an sdi signal
i have flown the red a number of times now
and i use the hd/sdi output from the red thru my post
to the monitor no problem, beautiful pictures
i actually think that my monitor looks better than
the stock red lcd monitor, but just my opinion
have fun

He makes it all look easy . . . .still don't know why a show like that won't use the Link wireless system . . .?
aloha rob
just a small question i have a beauty pagent coming up
and they want to use wireless, does the link system work with sd
and does have a delay, someone once told me it only does hd
which i find hard to beleive
thanks
-
just wondering who might be building the red one power cables
thanks
Dear Mark,
Check out Jeroen Hendriks at Lexmond Inc. - not only is the best cable maker I've ever used, but he was recently under contract to RED, so he will know what you need. He can be reached at (818) 384-4323 or jeroen@lexmond.com
Good luck.
right on and thank you so much simon
i'll give him a call tomorrow
